What other improvements have you made to your outdoor living spaces?
You're the uncle that everyone wishes they had, LOL!
We've got some nosy neighbors behind us and this is an excellent simple solution that is both stylish & cost-effective. Mine will be much taller & wider with an added lighting feature.
Thanks for the inspiration!
I've seen pros that don't have this attention to detail. This is the work of a master craftman and definitely the furthest thing from a DIY.
Great video and beautifully done!
Thanks for taking the time to make this!
Wow, thanks!
Yes, u r right. Fantastic is the word. Turned out great. Your niece is so fortunate to have uncles like you and your brother
I appreciate that!
Very very nice trellis and a beautiful design. Yes the plants growing up it will work beautifully and give more privacy.
Love the flip over table design. Very efficient
Ditto!!!
Absolutely perfect!!! I need this in my backyard!
You are a PRO at everything, geeze! DIY, video and sound editing, and producing. And you have a sweet workshop. One can only dream. But in the mean time, I will just enjoy your videos. Good work!
Wow, thanks!

Thanks a ton!
Wow! Beautiful work!
Thank you very much!
beautiful work! and the best tutorial I think Ive ever seen on you tube - you actually follow the exact chronology and the steps are clear. And you even cover a little work around for glitches like bent wood, or measurement corrects as they happen. love it!
Wow, thank you!
Lovely.
Well done. You are a good uncle and a talented craftsman.
Nice design and build. Looks nice.

Thank you!
Nice clear and enlightening video…. Thanks, cleared up some thoughts on something I’m planning to build
Just awesome! Truly professional grade.
Wow, thanks!
Really nice work! Great video too
Very nice. Thank you for sharing
Two possible suggestion: To keep the 4x4 from rotting use a 6" diameter concrete tube form, fill it to ground level or below, and anchor it to a steel 4x4 post base. Instead of overlapping the horizontal and vertical lattice, join the wood so it can be flush. Thanks again. peace
Great suggestions. Thank you!
Beautiful
Thank you!
Wow men your good you inspired me to start digging 😀
Great job!!!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the video, this is what I like to do for my project

Beautiful 👍work
Thanks a lot 😊
First time subscriber love the content . See you have 132K subscribers .....100 stars for this trellis project!!!
You are a good uncle.
What a great video and nice workmanship. Hint...I use cheap dollar store foam brushes to spread glue, use and dispose. Thanks for sharing.
That’s a neat idea. Thanks!
beautiful :D
Thank you! 😊
Just built very close to what you did but added lovers kit , so you can open or close when needed. Our front yard now can have more sun when opened or closed for privacy. Lover kit was Canada made and 80 bucks for 8 feet.
Sounds really nice!
New to your channel. My mind was blown when you flipped your plainer over to show another tool! I must do this!! Enjoyed this video, thank you! 👍🏼👍🏼
I love that flip top cart - I did a whole video on it! czcams.com/video/ETOy9T_GzEo/video.html
Thanks for checking out my channel and for watching. :)
Looks great brother. Can we see it with the vines?
My niece sold this house, so I no longer have access to it.... though I'd love to take a peek and see how it is holding up. I wonder what the new owners would think if I showed up on their porch saying something like "you don't know me, but people on the internet really need to see the vines on your trellis."
I bet they'd call the cops. 😂
Not gonna lie, your videos are like elevator music to my eyes-simple, pleasing and relaxing to watch!
Glad you like them, and thanks for watching!
Ha! Were they planning to take down the fence? Just out of curiosity, it seems like they have plenty of privacy already? Thanks for the demo! I'm getting ready to do something like this. We don't have a fence, and we were thinking of a pergola and one of those pull down shades, but we aren't looking for more overhead shade in our yard, just some privacy for enjoying a meal on the deck. I didn't know if this 'wall' was a 'thing' or not. My initial design thought looked a lot like what you've made here, so I'm thinking I must have seen something like it somewhere. Anyway, great video! Lots of helpful tips!
We have been looking for a solution like this for our place and your design is perfect for our needs! Thank you so much for sharing your cut list and design. We are needing 3 or 4 placed strategically in the garden and everything else was too massive or too insignificant. Your design is intentional and the scale is PERFECT! Thinking of adding some solar LED downlight/uplight on ours to help focus the eye on it and not what is behind it. Can't wait to get started on these!!!!
That's awesome! I'm really glad that you found this design useful. Best of luck with your project, and feel free to hit me up with any questions. Thanks for watching!
that is AWESOME WORK Man!
Question: What kinda Video Program are you using to produce your videos?
Thanks! I edit in DaVinci Resolve.
nice work! I would have to hire someone to do this, too much work
Thanks 👍
😍😍

Love watching these. Thanks for sharing!
Can your table saw accept a riving knife?
I don’t think it can. I’ve been thinking about a new saw with more torque and better safety features, but have not settled on exactly what I want.
@@AmplifyDIY On the bright side, if your current saw has low torque, then maybe the kickbacks won't go *all* the way through your skull :-)
Just finished the video. End result is really beautiful. Especially like the black hardware you used. The cedar grain looks terrific as well! Nice job.
@@HeyItsMeDave LOL - it may not be obvious in the clips in this one, but I'm always pretty careful to stand off to the left side of the blade... just in case. I've never had a kickback.... yet. *knocks on desktop*
Good uncle
Where did you find the black lag screws? Awesome design by the way!
Hi Jason - I believe I found them on the shelf at my local Lowes in the hardware section. Thanks for watching!
What lag screws did you use? I'm making something similar and your video is really helpful and I really like the look of the screws and washers you chose.
Hi Joel - I believe I found them in the hardware aisle of my local Lowes store. They are just long anodized lag screws + washers. Good luck!
I always find it funny when ppl ask "do you want to" do free labor for them, would burn me up when my friends would ask me in that way. Great job!
I’m a pushover. :-)
If you really consider them friends you wouldn't be "burned up" about it. Do you expect them to pay you?
@@LownWolf Yes, I would cause I'm me and. you are you. I expect them to ask me to help them, not act like it's a privilege for me to slave for them. I'm sure it wasn't that serious in AmplifyDIY's scenario but since you asked...
@@princessbc9791 how is that acting like it's a privilege to do work for them? And like I said, if it's an actual friend, you wouldn't be getting that feeling from them when they ask.
@@LownWolf Let's agree to disagree.
Very nice. Can you please send me the program that you use to design the trellis.
Thank you in advance
Heya Mr. Teenwolf: It's called Tinkercad, and I've made my design public: www.tinkercad.com/things/8BCNLGkOwjW-backyard-privacy-trellis/edit
Enjoy!
I wonder why you didn't seal the structure before erecting it? Handsome final product. From my own experience, I find that concrete is unnecessary and will make rot under the soil line more likely. Crushed gravel mixed with sand can hold the posts without allowing water to collect.
Hi Christina - Sealing post-install was due mostly to timeline constraints... we were trying to get it installed for a birthday present, and simply ran out of time. It would be easier/more effective to seal it before erecting, for sure. Thanks for the tip on the concrete, and for watching!
Randomly found this video looking for help from diy room divider. But I'm doing this instead some how 🤔
Nice project, would have been great to have added materials cost and approx hours to construct....just to give folk an idea 🙏
Hi GG - you bring up a great point! Lumber prices fluctuate wildly, so nailing down an approximate cost would be difficult. As I recall, this cost right around $1000 USD in materials, including the lumber, stain, hardware, concrete, rental of the post hole digger, etc. The lumber portion of that was around $700, but that was last year before lumber prices really skyrocketed. Today the lumber would likely be roughly double that - though I have not checked on the cost of cedar in my area lately.
As for time: as I recall I completed the entire project over the course of 4 days. It could be done much more quickly, but filming always at least doubles the time any project takes to complete.
Thanks for watching!
whats the website to design projects? very nice work. I am thinking abut building 2 of these for privacy too. I live in the city in acorner lot where people outside can see inside my yard because it sits high:( So maybe do 2 of these and a red pothinia in between or something like that. or I may just do trellis ontop of the whole fence too. Dont know what to do yet.
The website is called tinkercad, and there should be a link in the description to the model I built for this video that you are welcome to use as a starting point.
Good luck!
Great Video post, what was the name of that 3D software used for this video?
Hi Serendipity - I believe I mocked this up in TinkerCad - it's a free, online tool for building 3D models. Thanks for watching!
Great workmanship but what privacy and what shade you can see through it and it has no roof to keep cool looks good I do like it but all that work now have to wait for plants to grow all over it and cover all that nice wood work over time.
Hi Isaac! It's placed on the southern edge of the porch, and we are far enough north that the sun is nearly always in the southern side of the sky. They wanted it mostly for the early evenings, when it would cast a long shadow across the porch... which it did very well. As for seeing through the slats: They planted vines below it, which quickly grew up the slats and formed a nearly solid wall of lush greenery.
Like you, this is probably not what I would have built for myself, but this is what they wanted, and it works great for them.
Thanks for watching!
I personally love you craftsmanship and would like to see it and show it off it looks so good to hide it behind plants
You're very kind. Thank you!
Can I ask how the trellis has been holding up? I recently had cedar pergola set into concrete and people on internet have been saying wood should never be set into concrete and it will rot, etc?
Any advice is greatly appreciated?
And great looking trellis, very well built
In general, putting wood into concrete is not a great idea for many kinds of woods... cedar, however, is one of the species that I'm more comfortable with setting into concrete. It resists rot better, and also and bug infestation. Additionally, I coated the bottoms of the posts before setting them in concrete, to provide an extra layer of protection.
So far, this trellis has been holding up great!
@@AmplifyDIY Thanks sir for the reply!
GREAT JOB, CURIOUS HOW MUCH WAS THE COST N IS IT POSSIBLE TO MAKE PERGOLA OR GAZEBO ON THE CHEAP OR LIMITED BUDGET ! DONE AS FAMILY PROJECT OF 3 ADULTS?
IS NECESSARY TO ALSO HAVE CEMENT FOUNDATION OR CAN IT BE DONE WITH WOOD?
Hi there - Cost will vary a lot based on the materials you choose. I built this out of solid cedar, which is not very cheap at all. Pressure treated lumber or plain pine (with a stain/seal to protect against elements) would have been *significantly* cheaper. Using cement as I demonstrate in this video is really the best option if you are using cedar, redwood, or pressure-treated wood. If you are using plain dimensional pine, I would recommend pouring concrete footers but attaching the wood to it using a bracket such as this: amzn.to/3jBxF15
3 adults should have no problem building and installing something like you describe. Good luck!
thx so much for quick reply n interesting that you are so well versed in many things, KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK ON GREAT VIDEOS, I ESPEC LIKE YR STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR US WEEKEND WOODCRAFTERS ETC
Am thinking about buying a plainer to my tool collection 😅but I need a good reason for it To justify the purchase in front of my wife😅 so I probably gonna Build privacy wall and then probably build a table for her I think that should be more than justifiable :-)
I certainly think that is more than enough reason. Go for it!
Can I get a list of wood, list sizes of slats etc?
Hi, Robert! Here's a link to the PDF I put in my video description that has the cut list, sizes, etc: amplifydiy.com/shared/TrellisCutList.pdf Good luck!
What size miter saw is that? 12"?
I believe so, yes.
I love this trellis design and am going to build this. Where do I find the design dimensions. I opened an account on tinkercad and found this project but cannot find the build plan. Help please
Hi Bill! Open the design in tinker cad and then use the ruler tool to get the dimensions you need. The tinkercad project literally is the plan. I’m happy to try to answer any other questions you have. Good luck!
Still having a little trouble. Dimensions I need are: distance from top of vertical post to top of pin boards, distance from top of vertical post to header board
I’m happy to help. From the top of the vertical post to the top of the pin boards is 14.2”, and from the top of the vertical post to the pinboard header is 8.7”. Shoot me an email at amplifydiy@gmail.com and I’ll be glad to record a quick screencast showing you how to take those measurements. Thanks!
Great thankyou. Have been purchasing lumber for the project. I had to visit 3 yards to fill my order. Can't find cedar in lengths needed for vertical posts and top cross beam so I'm going with pressure treated for those 3 pieces the pt is in short supply too. Looking forward to starting the project thanks for the help!
I would have beans, cucumbers, tomatoes and grapes hanging all over that trellis
What kind of screen is this called! I need something similar for my back porch
Hi Taiter - this is usually referred to as a "trellis" or "privacy wall". There are lots of kits, plans, and pre-made ones available if you just bang around on google a bit. Good luck!
@@AmplifyDIY much appreciated, just extended my dick in my fixer upper and have a privacy fence on the left, but still want more privacy when having company over. I have 3 acres but they’re about 50 yards away on the left. Any recommendations
Building a trellis for privacy and shade? :55 Shot of the entire area before the project shows a privacy fence and a completely shaded patio. What was the purpose of this trellis? I realize it’s their property and they can do what they want, but it’s just weird that they want something they already have.
Nosy neighbor liked to look over fence. This trellis solved that.
Do you take orders 😊
Heh. Only from relatives...and even then, it's iffy. ;-)
where is the description ?>
Hi aalva - it depends on where/how you are watching the video. Generally it is somewhere below the video itself. Sometimes you have to click something to expand it. Sometimes you have to scroll all the way down past comment land to find it.
I'll be happy to copy/paste something from the description here if there was something specific you were looking for. Thanks for watching!
How nice to have an uncle to help. My uncles all they do is do for themselves, while my mom's house is falling apart right in front of thier eyes, as they live next door like about 200ft away from my mom's house, they live in what used to be my grandmother's house, she's passed from lukemia and 3yrs later my mom passed from 2nd hand smoke lung cancer. I've been trying to keep up with my mom's house but my part time job doesn't help at all, sadly the house is falling apart, and the roof leaks as well. My only brother refuses to help as he lives in an RV behind my mom's house. It's so sad that nobody cares to help with home repairs because me and my daughter and her two kids live in my mom's house. Well like I said God blessed you with a loving family 💕🌹 all I can do is sadly just dream...
is it possible to get this as a STEP file?
Hi Brian - it appears I can export it as a .OBJ, .STL, or .GLTF (.glb) - but STEP is not one of the options. Will one of those work for you?
@@AmplifyDIY let me see. Wanted to bring into fusion 360 as a solid

Is this a 10X10 Trellis?
Hi Emerald - I don't recall exact dimensions. I believe it was a little more than 8' tall, and around 10' or 12' wide.
@@AmplifyDIY thanks for the quick replied
Where you located?
Hi Angel - I'm in the Pacific Northwest of the US. Thanks for watching!
Hi. Thank you for your response. Would this particular piece be something you would make and sell?
Great work! I would love to have one.

Free software....really? Gonna try it
Yeah, Tinkercad is great. Good luck!
why would you spray it at the end once its all put in? why not spray it inside the shop?
In my case, it came down to scheduling. Had to have it installed as part of a birthday surprise, and we just ran out of time. Ideally, I would have applied the finish in the shop as you suggested. Thanks for watching!
Holy Cow CZcams sure is cranking out the ads and commercials...
How much will you charge to build one of these? 🤷🏽♀️
400 not including materials
You could have built the whole patio cover....
My HOA says that I cannot block the view of my courtyard with plants or screens because people want to be able to look inside "my private courtyard"
I may be going to court
Oof. That seems like a ridiculous rule to me as well…
Beautiful but man it’s a privacy fence, a bit shy on the privacy.
The owners grew climbing vines on it, which blocked all the gaps really well.
Good looking but not offering much privacy with this spacing... Thanks though!
Hi Nikifor - they planted vines which crawled up the slats, turning it into a solid wall of greenery that provides perfect privacy. Thanks for watching!
