- Installation of a wooden blind/shutter system for a deck. Step by step instructions for newbies who need a bit more help than the poor instructions you get with the product. I am not a professional builder and nothing in this video should be taken as advice as such. Also, always check with your city code before doing building projects to make sure you don't need a permit. Used a drill with a square bit, miter saw, table saw, deck stain, brushes, and the Pylex Deck Sunblind product (x3).
That is SO SMART to have a sliding section!!! I've been brainstorming how to get some privacy for our raised deck from my neighbors without permanently losing our backyard view from inside the house and this might be it!
Thank you for this great idea. I have a fire pit area just outside my patio. I want to add privacy for the patio without losing access to the fire pit. Your sliding barn door is just the ticket!! I'm going to give it a try. Thanks so much for sharing!
Very nice Mrs.Grether. When I turned in my solar system model and you gave me a B+. I still remember that
Lol. So 2 years ago?

I can't tell you how cool that is! Their perfect.
I love this idea! I like that this could take place of a railing, without the barn door hinges of course.
Interesting thought. I don’t know if that would fly for an inspection, but I like the idea.
Maybe not on a really high deck though. You trip and stumble or a kid hits that really hard and a 10ft or higher drop would be scary. Now I want someone to test different forces and see if it is as stable as a rail.
Thank you so much your video was so helpful and easier to follow than the pylex company video, that they put out so so much easier.
Looks awesome. The only pain I can see in the future is when you need to restain it. Either have to disassemble everything or try and not get stain on the hardware.
I just found out about this pylex sunblind kit. I love the idea of adding the sliding so you can still walk in and out of the area.
It was an over the top way to put in a shade, but the look is what really sets it apart from like a pull down blind. I really liked the look of the wood, but I especially like that I can still see the yard through it while getting shaded from the direct sun. I am happy with their product so far.
You can walk through the sliding door section when moved out of the way.
Gostei da ideia, era o que estava procurando para fazer na minha casa.
You may get use some washers about a half inch on both sides of the spacer
Good tutorial. I'm going to add this to my to do list. Thanks.
Smart combination looks great...
Thank you for making this video, this is the only one I’ve seen on CZcams that clearly shows how the system is installed.
Have you figured out how to get the blinds moving from open to closed a bit more easily? Picked some up and I’m planning on installing soon.
I’m glad someone could find it useful. Love your handle btw. I am a young genXer. Actually time is all it took. I assume things weren’t perfect and as the blinds have been moved around here and there, they are now loose enough to open and close with one hand. Probably a minimal alignment with the center screw I assume.
@@CassieGrether I’m happy to hear they’re moving more easily now. I installed one small section last night and it worked out really nicely, love this system for a deck privacy wall.
Thanks again for sharing!
@@eldermillenialdiy2536 I’d love to see a pic! I wish you could do that on the comments here. Post on FB and tag me @CassieGrether
Nicccceeeee!!!!!Can u show me how u made frame and doors? I gt a rough idea on frame but the door’s definitely. I see a knot he’s is cut out but I’m not sure if those 2x4’s or wat🤷🏾♀️
czcams.com/video/SU_Q2XYVV_I/video.html here you go.
Brilliant. Thank you!
good afternoon, please help me find out the dimensions of these components for the blinds, the distance between the holes, the thickness of the metal, the size of the plates
Well done
Great video
Thanks for sharing!
Where do I buy the fittings. I want to make vertical slates in my kitchen and lounge as a devider. Please help I'm from South Africa
I got mine from a store called Home Depot. But I did see similar products on Amazon. Don’t know if they are available in your area though. However, you can make something similar without the hardware. Look up plantation shutters. They work a bit differently but can be done if you can’t locate this hardware in your nation.
The old owners of my house left 4 boxes of these and I had no idea how to install these as only one box had instructions and as you said, they're bad!! Thank you. How big of spaces did you use? My instructions say you need rivets?
So my kit came with a metal strip about 1/2 inch wide by 6feet long? Maybe. It had holes down the strip to allow for a template for pre-drilling. The spacing between looks to be about 5 inches, but it is exactly the distance from one hole to the other on one of the brackets that connect each of the shutters together.
Rivets seem strange unless that is what they are calling the brackets. Can you upload a photo?
@@CassieGrether idk know how to upload a pic on yt, but def says rivets and shows a rivet gun? The instructions make zero sense lol
@@cyberia7080 you probably have a different version of the set. Rivet gun… Maaaybe your set was mean to be used with cloth not wood??? No idea.
@@CassieGrether No, the instructions clearly state wood. All the pieces in my kit look just like yours, other than they want rivets. So strange. I think I'm going to do mine just as you did yours. I have 4 sections I need to do so I'll try it on one section and see how it works.
@@cyberia7080you use the rivets when you’re going into 6x6 timber. Because you can’t screw it in on one side since the 6x6 is wider than 4x4. The l brackets can rotate past the 4x4 to attach the flat bracket that makes it rotate with a screw. On the 6x6 that’s not the case so you have to rivet the flat brackets together to make it rotate together. Hope that makes sense.
You've had this system for awhile is it still working as planned?
Pretty much. The barn door slider isn’t perfect. I am going to install a small wheel on the underside for weight support.
What was the board thickness?
I believe it was .75” thick.
In actual thickness not listed thickness.
@@CassieGrether ok. Thank you.
@@CassieGrether I need to put one in the weekend.
I believe on the instructions it says to use 5/8' to 1" ... I use cedar board 1 inch by 5-1/2 inch you don't have to use boards as wide as the brackets
Enjoy the deck 😂😂
Dont show us how it operates or anything....ffs.....
Okay.
Here you go. czcams.com/video/Cclg0THT-lk/video.html
Speak not English so much.. okay
It’s okay. My husband says I’m not funny too.
@CassieGrether Thank you for the video. Tell your husband you're funny for us.
system? hahah are you kidding? this needs no system. good grief
That’s the name of the product, dumb a$$.
Invest in a very inexpensive tripod for your next video . As interested as i was, i could not take more than 3 minutes of your one handed bumbling with camera whilst attempting to actually complete the task.
Just sayin
