    Thank you brother! I like how we can always count on a garden project or two from you each year. It seems that many YT’s are more and more chasing some mythical algorithm honey pot regarding topic, video length, project -vs- skill -vs- tips -vs- tool… I appreciate that you build what you want/need and with that comes the tools, skills, and tips. I personally prefer watching projects, I actually bypass videos on that are under say, 12 minutes (really can’t cover a project or skill in that time). So, yours are always right up the middle for me. It also seems to me that I genuinely want to ‘spend’ (time has value or it does not) watching a guy who still maintains a IRL trade. It would be awesome, I’m sure to just live in your shop (I know I think so), but your dedication to improving, learning, fitting your shop, and making content is coming from a natural drive to do those things. I’m sure the sponsor has helped and I think it’s near how it represents your trade well while being something a bunch of the ‘normal folk at home’ can benefit from. After all, I think most of your target audience is directly in sync with you: has a IRL trade/job, wants to spend time in the shop, and enjoys learning tools/skills while completing projects. Thanks again and keep driving brother.

      P.S. “Crazy Workshop” and yourself are thinking a lot alike 😂 below is a link to what he released about the same time yours came out. A contrast of the two will give you an idea how your making things accessible, informative, and enjoyable to guys like me. His is obviously his own, but your project and video is the kind of content that will get weekend/evening crafters to the place where they can do even more adventuresome things down the road (crawl, walk, run…) I just thought it a good example of what I was saying above earlier: czcams.com/video/4gR3mVwII0k/video.html

    Awesome job! I like how you do the metric / imperial dimensions. As a electrician here in Canada 🇨🇦 I am fluent in both. But there are so many people who cannot wrap their heads around the metric system, it's far easier to use than the imperial system.

    • @JohnMcGrathManInShed
      @JohnMcGrathManInShed  Před 2 lety +2

      Metric is a lot easier to use. I'm ok with Imperial but when you get down to 1/32 and 1/64 it really slows me down

    Going to give this a try next week as I'm finishing up a raised bed area with walkway and wanted something like this for a few climbing annuals. Very minor observation - the top of each supporting leg appears to have exposed end grain. Always a possible weak spot for rot from standing water. Would need a really good coating of something to seal, or just cap it using an off cut to stop water sitting there.
    No curves here, so 45 deg angles (2cm or 3cm from top depending on timber width). For the braces a 45 looked very plain and not well. Instead I picked the mid-point of the brace, as you would for the curve, and measured a 120 deg angle (60 deg to each side) and will cut that out with a handsaw or jigsaw.

    Its amazing to see lumber prices
    My shop is in the Philippines
    These are current prices for rough sawn lumber per BF
    Mahogony 27p 0.67 Euros
    Teak 65p 1.19 Euros
    16mm marine ply 900p 16.28 Euros
    94lb portland cement 290p 5.25 Euros
    The downside is you need to wait a year or two for the lumber to dry
    Tools are about 1.5x to 2.5 times western prices

As I said recently I am new to this woodworking malarkey because of you lol so my question is this. Mine will have to cover a curved set of 3 small steps to a lower level in the garden, so could this design be modified easily.

    Nice little arbor, but it seems to me that the internal upper frame of 2x4s is unnecessary. The cross-lapped 2x6 and 2x4 construction is plenty strong to use as the upper frame. Using them as the upper frame makes the structural elements themselves decorative, rather than applying non-structural decoration.

    • @JohnMcGrathManInShed
      @JohnMcGrathManInShed  Před 2 lety +6

      Its all structural, using an internal frame allows the screws to be hidden, it could all be done with joinery and no internal frame but that isn't something the majority of people could make
