    I so deeply appreciate a man who finds his soul flower. I clicked on this video because my boyfriend wants one for clematis! You did a gorgeous job - appreciate the honesty about the trial and error!

    Looks great! However, I think it's a bit overkill for a flower arbor; but im sure it will last forever. Thanks for the video; I learned a thing or two

    • @UCanBuildThis
      @UCanBuildThis  Před 5 dny

      Thank you very much for watching. It could be considered overkill for sure but I wanted it to be tall and I figured our Wisteria was going to be heavy, so I beefed it up. I also LOVE working with wood and wanted it to be a focal point for our garden. Hopefully it worked and I'm not just biased. 🤣I hope you have a great day and thank you for commenting.

    Had to laugh about the estimated time to complete. I do the exact same thing, in my mind a project gets finished fast. In reality not so fast lol The wisteria is gorgeous, my dear Mother planted a vine to grow across a fence by the garage. It was beautiful. Turns out sadly I was highly allergic so now I give them a wide berth. The arbor turned out beautifully, thanks for the detailed instructions along with cost!

    Would love to know where you purchased the trellises. We are looking to build an arbor for weddings. My wife & daughter are opening an event center and need one we can move.

    • @UCanBuildThis
      @UCanBuildThis  Před 28 dny

      We bought our trellis components from Lowe’s. What a great idea! I bet it would be easy to make it in a way you could “assemble” and “disassemble” relatively easy. Thank you for watching.

    Love your video.
    Please be careful and monitor your wisteria. It’s beautiful and EXTREMELY invasive. It will probably never die. The roots can get up and over 6in thick. Can cause damage to property foundation without you knowing.
    We’re dealing with that issue now

    • @UCanBuildThis
      @UCanBuildThis  Před 7 měsíci

      Oh my goodness! I am so sorry to hear you are having issues with it and your foundation. How old is your wisteria?

  • @IMABIGKIDNOWW

    Do you think you need the corbels if your posts are sunk (e.g. not on a footing)?

    • @UCanBuildThis
      @UCanBuildThis  Před 4 měsíci

      Good question. Maybe not initially when everything is new but eventually the weather and wind will wear it down and the more it could move around initially (without corbels), the faster it could wear down in theory. In my mind, it is easier to add them in during the initial build so everything weathers the same and the structure stays more square and rigid from the beginning. What are your thoughts? PS I love your username haha.

    • @IMABIGKIDNOWW
      @IMABIGKIDNOWW Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@UCanBuildThis understood on your thought process! We built our garden a few years ago and I'm finally getting around to adding the top of trellis (similar to your style). Probably will add in the corbels for good measure but atm the entrance posts with the lattices are rock solid. Thanks for the tips! and yeah...username is a remnant of the past 😆

    • @UCanBuildThis
      @UCanBuildThis  Před 4 měsíci

      @IMABIGKIDNOWW nice! Yeah sometimes project take a few years huh! Good point on the fact your posts and lattice are solid. What do you have anything growing on it?

    • @IMABIGKIDNOWW
      @IMABIGKIDNOWW Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@UCanBuildThis We've been growing luffas on them but looking to do something more permanent that goes across the top!
      I actually do have one follow up question now that I got thinking. Did you just use a forstner and then lag screw the corbel to the vertical post? thanks man

    • @UCanBuildThis
      @UCanBuildThis  Před 3 měsíci

      @IMABIGKIDNOWW Well…I’m a big jerk and am just now seeing your comment. I tried using a forstner bit but it wasn’t removing the material enough so I used a paddle bit and went in maybe 2”. This way I cut put a washer on with my lag screw since the redwood is pretty soft.
      I’ve never heard of Luffas. I’ll need to check them out! Let me know if you have any more questions. 👍

    $800 for an arbor, no thanks!!!!

    • @UCanBuildThis
      @UCanBuildThis  Před 6 měsíci +6

      Yeah $800 can be viewed as expensive but also a great deal. I build my stuff to last for the long term. When I do a big project like this, I build for quality over quantity. In my video, I show how companies building this would charge much more so $800 is actually a really great price for the quality and size you get. But, to each their own.
