    I have a keyboard player I work with sometimes who uses his Korg Kronos the same way. I used to YEARS ago, I am too old and impatient to sit and do all that now. I have a LOT of respect for anyone who puts that work in to get your live rig ready, it certainly worked for me ( 80s style limited) back in the day. Great advert for why my Montage 7 is still a great keyboard too.

    Omg touring with the fugees? They’re my favourite group ever

    Dude! You are seriously a god send. I've been scouring forums/videos etc. trying to find no frills but fully functional live rig setups, whether it's pink covered nords (they look sick not even mad) that are just used as midi controllers in Katy Perry's show, to Rick Wakeman having some sorry fucker haul every workstation from 1999 around the world, they all seem to fall short of what I expect keyboardists to be implementing in live performance. Unlike those, yours seems bullet proof for any kind of touring situation and should serve as a blueprint for practical compromise on stage, well aside from the fact that Montage M is almost 5K, but hey man you worked for that so good job! Not only are your videos super informative and straight to the point, but I appreciate your levity. Keep it up, people will catch on.

    Nice synth, but your wiggly keyboard rig would make me go bananas. And soundwise, from what I'm hearing, a 90th EX7 or even my humble TG500/WSA 1R rig could still compete. With a split zone masterkeyboard and a good patch setup. But I would invest in an Ultimate stand. Mine holds my Roland RD150 (26 kg) and a Roland PC200 mk2 without a problem. And the Fugees and ms. Hill are still on top of their game from what I heard as is the "Miseducation" still a record no one can pass by.

    I love that you play the Legend of Zelda theme at soundcheck. Anyone ever stand up and take notice of that? Had I been around at soundcheck, I’d certainly have taken notice of that!

    • @SamGutman
      @SamGutman  Před 9 měsíci +1

      That’s just me plugging the output of my keyboard into my camera, so it’s actually not making sound in the venue. So unfortunately people don’t get to hear Zelda :(

    Does anyone know if Cubase is supposed to have a Montage M template after loading driver?
    Seems like it would help me a great deal…

    HI Sam, I know you also use / used a Seaboard. Since the M6 / M7 are lacking the poly-AT, but have sounds onboard that are programmed for poly-AT; can you hook up the seaboard and use that for dynamic poly-AT sounds on the Montage ? I have a seaboard Rise2 and MODX7+, but the MODX is useless with the seaboard as attached keyboard. Doesn't understand MPE / Poly-AT or anything. Wonder if the new Montage OS is any better in that respect.

    Overcomplicated arpeggiators are a real problem on modern synths. Like trying to brush your teeth using a car wash.

  • @derekash27
    @derekash27 Před 9 měsíci

    The arpeggiator is the reason I haven’t upgraded yet. It’s frustrating.

      I seriously don't get what their deal is with the arpeggiator.

  • @lavoltabbona

    You play with the click open the whole time, doesn't that kill the groove for you?

    • @SamGutman
      @SamGutman  Před 9 měsíci +4

      Its such an elaborate production with so many people onstage, that it’s a safer bet for everyone to be playing to the click then playing to the drummer. I know that sounds kind of weird but playing out a big spread out stage is a totally different experience of relating to the other band members musically

    • @SamGutman
      @SamGutman  Před 9 měsíci +3

      But yeah, playing to a click rather than the drummer is a detriment to the vibe of the music I think. But in this situation it’s necessary.
