  • Hey Everyone, Today we're finally going to talk about what happened with my custom, home built smoker. Her name is Bonnie and she is a square ugly drum smoker. She's a BIG smoker, 30 by 30 by 50 inches tall, I basically wanted to build the most efficient use of space smoker I could come up with for competitions. That being said the whole design was made with the idea of being able to fit two full size foil pans on both a top and bottom rack, and we did just that. After the build we took this home built smoker out on the Kansas City Barbecue Society competition circuit and had an amazing year winning 3 contests and reserving two contests. This build was a ton of fun and something that I got to do with my brother. I hope you enjoy watching this as much as I enjoyed building and cooking on the behemoth! If you have any questions at all just reach out and let me know. #bbqsmoker #homemadesmoker #smokerbuild

    Man that's so cool! Love how it was a family project to build. When you started talking about learning how to build, weld and paint it etc. I got the chills. I'd love to build my own smoker one day. Looking forward to seeing you cook on it more!

    From seeing and cooking on this pit first hand with you, I can agree, this pit is awesome, unique, and HEAVY! And yes, there is no better feeling than winning on a put you built! Looking forward to more D'Qbe vids!

    Awesome video Steve! Tons of cool shots in this vid, like the camera inside the smoker! You're becoming a master of film 📽️ and flame 🔥! Keep up the great work! Your videos led me towards the Akorn last April and I couldn't be happier with it!

    Hahaha bboonniieee mcmuurryyy, but man that's a cool smoker! I have been talking with my dad about building an offest with some of the scrap metal he has at the house. Would be awesome to cook on something I built with my hands. But man I love using the chargriller 980 so much ha. Great video! Side note, an ambulance with a wheel chair lift to carry this thing to competitions would be amazing ha, I imagine it all logoed out and full of bbq supplies. You would have so much room for activities!

    Would love to try to cook on it, I dig the drum functionality, very cool. I retired my backwoods cabinet smoker last year, the main reason being its weight. The thing cooks like a beast and is impervious to being affected by weather, but always required multiple hands to move it.

    We have a KCBS Sanctioned competition up here in Wisconsin held annually in August on Washington Island out on Lake Michigan, known as Deaths Door BBQ. Just a ferry ride off the Door County Wisconsin Peninsula. Great beer, great wine, the best cheese. Door County is gorgeous, come check it out sometime.

    You need to look up the Eastwood surface conditioning tool. I’ll never use a grinder for finishing a surface again. It also gives the metal a straight grinding grain so it doesn’t have all the grinder swirls in it

      @@Cookoutcoach my first comp with the new pit I won last year. I had one finish out of the top 5 on the year.

  • @soteriamediaproductions6165

    Nice! Simple design with high functionality, that’s what a smoker, or any other tool should be.
    My question, are those square tubings on your door the fire baffles?

  • @24Mangible
    @24Mangible Před rokem

    I have a smiliar pit to this pit and the chud box by Bradley Robinson. You should put gas shocks(springs) on your lid to help the ease when opening it and to keep it open without you having to worry.

    Pictures and a video still does not do this thing justice. It is MASSIVE!!!
    I still remember my first time seeing her up in Marietta. And then when Lee Hickle got to see it he thought that this was the coolest thing since the other side of the pillow. Honestly I was just thinking the other day about how are you haven’t used her here lately and was wondering if and when you were going to break her out again.

    • @Cookoutcoach
      @Cookoutcoach  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah I thought the same thing when I was putting this video together lol, just doesn’t do the size justice. She’ll be back on the trail sooner than later.

    when I saw you cut with a grinder and finished with a torch, I knew it wasn’t your profession. Next time lay down and clamp a piece of steel as a guide

  • @fretmajik777
    @fretmajik777 Před 3 měsíci

    My step father was a welder and he was working on this huge smoker but well before he finished it he passed away. Anyway I have a huge unfinished smoker in my shop, it's steel and I just want to sell it since I cannot weld. One thousand dollars and it's yours. I saw a smoker for sale for almost 6k that had a very similar structure to the one I have for sale. Someone that builds smokers could make a really good profit.
