I'm glad you put use to it
After that, I want to clearify some stuff: there are some missing characters because, at the time (a few weeks post MK11's original launch, I believe), I felt like there was barely anything to say about them, and those were OT Kintaro, the Comic version of the Red Dragon, and other characters that either weren't shown yet, or I just didn't get a good image to showcase them. And there's also the case for the MK11 versions of Sindel, Nightwolf and other DLC characters which, at that time, I didn't even know they existed, and that's why they aren't in the list.

He also is the only character that wasn't destroyed in someway by MK11. Even dodged a bullet by not being in aftermath.
I really liked what they did with Scorpion too but then the worst villain got to kill him and not Bi Han and I was left with a bitter taste.

It's funny how Johnny Cage becomes organically likable in the new timeline. He matures, becomes a great dad, wins the day against Shinnok, and doesn't die at all (whereas he died all the time in the previous timeline).

And now that I'm thinking about it Johnny Cage actually defeated Shinnok once before in armageddon, so he wasn't the worst choice.

And corrupted shinnoks first and only loss came from Cassie cage
@@milesandrews6711 Johnny didn't really "best" Shinnok. The cutscenes show that after Johnny knocks him down he gets right back up again and resumes a fighting stance, no worse for wear. He only lost when Raiden sealed him in the amulet.

Kenshi was considered the shining star of the 3d era, and then one of the most anticipated characters for MKX. Only to then be overshadowed by his son and barely even requested for MK11. It really shows how poorly utilized he was in MKX
I mean at least he was in it, compared to now where not even his son got in MK 11, since Jacqui was so interesting just like Fem-Bot Frost!
@@michaelfireheart8300 Takeda’s exclusion from 11 is probably the most confusing absence for me. Jacqui, Erron, and and even Kotal probably should have been lower priority. They also could have incorporated his telepathy/telekinesis into his moveset since Kenshi and Ermac are both absent from this game
I still can't get over Kenshi not getting a chapter in MKX's story mode.

OG Khan: I was this powerful, godlike threat that was the final boss of two games and was the boss of the original final boss and sub boss. I had both brains and brawn, able to duke it out with the strongest characters while also being strategic and careful, taking out people beyond my power and manipulating powerful warriors to my side and somehow I won Armageddon in the end.
New Khan: I am a whiny, muscle bound idiot who relies way too much on my lackeys and if it wasn't for Quan-Chi I would have died from Liu-Kang and never been able to invade Earthrealm. Despite an impressive showing in MK9 where it takes the combined might of Raiden and the Elder Gods to beat me and most arcade endings showcase me as being incredibly powerful and unstoppable the next time I am in a story role I am as weak as every other villain, gets blinded by Kitana who used to fear me and have to be saved by my WAIF. I then for some reason allow Shang-Tsung to wear Kronika's crown even though he's clearly not trustworthy. Also I talk like Donald Trump now.

It annoys me how wasted Ermac is in the new timeline. MK9 sets up the future plotline of Jerrod’s soul being in Ermac, and an intro dialogue with Scorpion in MKX outright states that Shao Kahn’s soul was inside him as well. There was a clear establishment of this plotline in which Jerrod and Shao Kahn’s souls battle for control of Ermac’s body, and then they never followed through with it
Funny enough both Jerrod and Shao Khan are now in Shang Tsung
They scrapped that and turned Jerrod into some pussy ass bitch getting killed by everyone.
I was always under the impression that Jerrod was a total chad to the point where bitches kill themselves when he dies but Shao Khan was just too strong in the end.
@@Jordan13299 funny thing, he actually was a Chad. Mk2 Malibu comics portrayed him like that. Shao kahn needed a plan to take down jerrod as he was a very powerful king. As his plan, he had to use Shang Tsung as a baby in order to deceive him. He was also fighting lin kuei and the lin kuei were shook. We saw a glimpse of his powers such as emporer spirit shield, make a fire sword etc. Shao and Shang basically took him down from behind and he still wanted to fight.
I kinda wished they had Liu Kang had the "no kill" mentality in more games.

@@fuladd No, he wouldn't necessarily stop the others from killing Earthrealm's enemies but he personally wouldn't do it. Like what Snake said in the Wasted Plotential on Liu Kang. In the old timeline, he faced Shang Tsung 3 times: MK 1, 2 & 3 and he beat him each time but didn't killed him. Later on, Shang Tsung would end up killing him.
Someone who refuses to kill in the world of MK, I personally find it interesting. Especially when that same guy goes back on his "no killing" mentality to kill a threat such as Shao Kahn because his best friend "died".

Also can we talk about how he got the speed if he was still in the black dragons despite he got the speed after he got burned by Kentaro.
Well I think in MK 3 He joined the heroes because the black dragons scared him and gave him the mask, so he joined the heroes for that. This is a theory but maybe the years between his appearance he must have became their leader because he recroots Kira and kobra in their ending. And Kano wasn't wasn't seen when the black dragons were near so maybe Kabal became the leader during the 3d era( this is my guess)

If MK X was a sequel to Armageddon, then it would make more sense that Cassie was able to defeat Shinnok. Her father received a power boost from Taven, and this strength could be inherited by Cassie, while the real Shinnok remained at the same power level as MK4 (since he sent a clone to the Battle of Armageddon and didn't get a power boost). Better than power of love bs.
Yeah plus I wanted to see Taven and dark Raiden meet again to show how this one could go but when I realized it ( a little while later) I was like fuck we could have had Dark Raiden and Taven with the SF facing the ravanants, to see who would gain blazes power and noob coming back and fighting but no we get this middle finger to the end credit scene

This is kind of what I wanted the story of MK11 to be, where the two timelines, old and new, would merge. Could've been interesting to see the concept explored.

I feel the reason why NRS seem so weak in the story department Is just because they probably put all their effort into the ladder endings and intro dialogues oppose to the story

More like the writers just mostly looked at 2011 instead of the original timeline.
There is no real excuse. There is legit fanfiction that shows a deeper understanding of the characters and how they can work
IMO the ladder endings are worse than the story, as they somehow can create scenarios where everything is perfect for the character and there' no possible development. I loved the endings in MKDA/MKD as they somehow presented brief ideas of what the future could be, like Onaga in Raiden's ending or the fate of Sub-Zero and Kenshi versus Hotaru.
@Dylan Sharp yeah, I think those endings were bittersweet at best, like Liu Kang going back with his friends in Ermac's ending in Deception or Kung Lao finding peace after defeating Shang Tsung in MKDA.

The whole jerrod being a part of ermac would honestly be very interesting because ermac would subconsciously be very uncomfortable around kitana and not understand why. Even when she was loyal to shao Kahn, his confusion around her could of made him hostile towards her and later on, when the thousands of souls fight for control over ermac that's when jerrod awakens and takes control, finally understanding everything. Maybe for a brief moment jerrod would've completey overshadow ermacs conscious and spoke to kitana for the first time, apologize to her for everything and that he loves her and is proud of her, and then fading back in the thousands of souls. Seems dramatic but that's how I would imagine their reunion to be.

@@bandana.7077 yeah, I feel that the world building in mortal kombat and the hundreds of characters would be too much to fit into a story mode for a fighting game. It would have to be novels or something, and so many characters to give development too, I mean thinking about it feels overwhelming. Oh and btw, I have a theory that if the original old games sindel had known of mileenas existence (idk if she did or not) then sindel would've been absolutely disgusted of her. She can never accept that thing as her daughter and her hatred for shao Kahn grows even stronger. Even if kitana may or may not ever accepted her, sindel would never, at all.

I really think Ashrah should come back. She has more potential than most characters in the series. The idea of being a demon trying to better herself is something that shows up very rarely. There's so much NRS can do with her.

My issue with Bo is that the games over emphasize the joke half of his character and not nearly enough of his serious half to balance him out. He was basically a poorly written Uncle Iroh.

I've always seen Cassie as more of a Daddy's girl rather than inspired by her mother. Johnny at least always supports her. Johnny fucking Cage is a better parent than any other MK character... imagine that.
Steve Blum Sub Zero is handled very well IMO. He beat up the kombat kids, resolved the feud with scorpion, and was able to stop the cyber lin kuei twice.

They did to Johnny in the newer games what they did to Kenny in South Park: they took two comic relief/one note characters and made them actually complex (Kenny’s relationship with his sister Karen and his curse of retroactive immortality).
Personally, I think kira has untapped potential.
She's a woman, who sells weapons, in a country that doesn't like women.
Its pretty easy to forget she's a middle eastern character. Maybe give her a full blown redesign, and have her take on a more Arabic appearance.
Yeah, they didn't really do anything with the idea that joining the black dragon was essentially her ticket out of of there - and use the implied idea that the reason she's skimpily clad is because it's the first time she didn't have to hide her face or be ashamed of being feminine.
But alas, the next game after her debut was armageddon soooo... lol

Me personally new Shang Tsung should have been top tier since all the new timeline did was add to his character. He never changed from his original timeline counterpart he's still like he always was, a master manipulator, a pure evil scumbag, and a foe you shouldn't judge on appearance. And the things NRS did change with Shang Tsung they did for the better since he's shown to be an opportunist, a great emotional manipulator and actor in general ( the guy gives Johnny Cage a run for his money [ this is a joke]), and he isn't 100% written off as a random bad guy to be put down or made fun of he actually gets some wins under his belt. And another thing. The voice acting was ON POINT with Shang Tsung even when his actor changed he still always sounded like he was up to something.
Now if only this treatment was given to some of the other characters as well like new Shao Kahn, and Twindel.
They should never have killed him off though. Not even for the shortest time. Although... it does make for some hilarious poetic justice later.

Looking at rain's ending, it made me kind of wish he had a role in the mk11 story mode. with him joining Kronika wanting a chance to kill Taven and Daegon, and scorpion trying to prevent him from doing so because he doesn't want see someone else go down the revenge path.
Jax joining with Kronika fits with his character? I don't remember Jax being an idiot prior to that.
it doesn't. When he sees the revanants, he also doesn't question why they are working with kronika and alongside him considering he fought for earthrealm and they fought for shinnok. It's bad storytelling all the way through. Terrible betrayal arc coupled with terrible redemption. It doesn't make sense. And as far as my knowledge goes, there is also no mk11 comic that helps fill in the plotholes. So its even worse

And if the dialogue he had with raiden is anything to go by. She didnt says she was shinnoks mother. Probably to keep him on her side as he probably would have turned on her if he learned that she is his mother.

Jade & Kotal don't really bother me no more cause I always like to see Jade in doing other things besides being Kitana's shadow like the original timeline Jade and Tanya have a rivalry which we should have seen in this timeline but I do agree Jade should have fell in love with Kotal instead of loving Kotal out of nowhere she change Kotal at least wonder why NRS hate Kotal he gets treated bad in the games I feel he's a Wasted Plotential a little bit.

but things like khotal being a big tier fighter and not called into kombat or devorah having interfered with prisoner capture and not be seen again is too much to stomach as believable.
I'd say MKX Erron Black had some potential. He was to be a MK3 Kabal like figure in that there was a lot of mystery surrounding his origin and he was kind of a wayward merc except instead of being on the good side in that game like Kabal was in MK3, he was perfectly neutral as a kharacter (it all depends on who he's working for). I think NRS did see the parallels and that was maybe why they incorporated the Black Dragon into his background for MK11 but they never went anywhere with it.
Which is weird because in so.e intros, and the MKX comic the Black Dragon rejected him,so he despises them, and later in the comic i believe he saved Cassie and Jacquie from the Red Dragon.
Then there was the ending that showed the he's over 150 years old because he made a deal with Shang Tsung.
But nah, MK11 mucked up a real interesting Kharacter to make him just a goon, and not a good nod to Roland Deschain.

@@nabilahmed579 you could make him into a Kharacter who does bad stuff for a good cause, and a price, reveal more and more about him every entry instead of possibly killing him next game, the man and his past is a mystery that doesn't really need a big grand story, just a good one that fits his Kharacter. Make him sorta an Anti-Hero probably.

@@nabilahmed579 I mean the best you can do which could tick a few people off( including me) is to make him related to either Sonya or Johnny as an ancestor, which would be dumb, not every Kharacter has to have a big important story in the world,or related to a bigger name Kharacter (The Kombat Kids).
If you want to make an interesting character, don't make them rely on other characters too much.
I feel Johnny Cage and Mileena was handled well in the new timeline.

mileena was? She just becomes a puppet for shao khan and twindel to use. She doesn't change sides or question shao kahn's loyalty. Her intro dialogues suggests she remained the same and they haven't done anything to her

It's funny that you say Jacque could be the techie character because if I recall correctly, it seemed to be heavily implied that original timeline Jax was also a techie. I'm assuming this because in MK4's Cyrax ending, it looked like Jax was the guy at the computer working on breaking his programming and from what it sounded like in his MK3 bio, Jax enhanced his arms himself. If that's what the devs intended, then that's pretty badass.
I'll also add here for anyone that doesn't know. The MK11 arcade endings for Mileena, Rain and Rambo are now up on CZcams. Be careful if you don't wish to be spoiled. I don't understand how they can show up before the DLC is released but whatever... *shrug*

Scorpion, Johnny Cage, Stryker, Mileena, Fujin and Kenshi I'll say was done nice in this new timeline Jax was done good to I like that he became a wreck after his wife died that's some good development for his character.

Umm... you're forgetting that jax basically chose to betray his own realm and his friends after joining with kronika. He also doesn't question why is he working with the revenants after everything they done. He also nearly let his own daughter be killed by cetrion. Which goes ENTIRELY against why he was working with kronika: his whole purpose was to protect jacqui.
Jax needed more screen time tbh and I wish we saw Jax with Johnny Cage more since I feel ike they would be buds
Drahmin (and to a lesser extent, Moloch) I'd say were absolutely wasted. Mostly because the Oni were a really interesting new race for the Netherrealm. One that NRS completely ignored in the new timeline, replaced by _generic Warcraft monster._
Moloch being decapitated by Revenant Kitana was kinda interesting, I can't lie.

The4thSnake, they never stated that Bo’ Rai Cho died in MKX. He was tortured by Shinnok though. Shinnok states he would shortly die, but his fate was left ambiguous.
Practically almost every character in the NRS timeline is extremely stupid. The only exceptions are Stryker, Kabal, Johnny Cage, and Takeda

MK11 fucked up so much that we ought to make the distinction of pre and post MK11 when we're talking about new timeline kharacters. I'm with you on this for pre MK11 Kabal but definitely not whatever krap we got in MK11.

I absolutely adore MK9. It's one of my favorite fighting games. The story went out of its way to do some ridiculous stuff, and I'm sure it took a whole lot of bravery to kill off half the cast again. Especially since it was a reboot with unexplored new iterations of well known classic characters. That being said, killing that many people off kind of backed the writers into a corner. It doesn't help that MKX and MK11 both had completely different writers from 9. Now of course this does not excuse the plot inconsistencies in X and even more importantly 11. Neither does it excuse the characters being so dull in 11. It only makes me wonder what would've been done had there been a few more living characters at the end of 9 who could contrast with the revenants.
I just want to share something I thought about to let 4 characters gain a bit more relevance in the MK universe (Or at least offer a more interesting storyline) even if they aren't really liked, and I'd really like feedback if possible:
So, you know about the Stryker and Kabal plotline right? What if it became a Stryker, Kabal, Kobra and Kira plotline? Let me explain:
For Stryker and Kabal we keep MK9 basis, they are partners, and Kabal is a former Black Dragon member. But instead of making Kobra and Kira irrelevant goons, we age them down a bit to turn them into young street thugs comitting petty crimes while still keeping the dynamic brawl and brain duo they had in the original timeline.
With this setting, we can have, before the main story really kicks in, some scenes to establish their dynamics. Stryker and Kabal are cops, Kobra and Kira are thugs, some tension arises, since the two youngsters really distrust and hate Stryker for some reasons we can expand upon latter, but they have a weirdly brotherly bond with Kabal since he's not as stuck-up as Stryker and emphasise with them, and in return they admire him for being a "badass criminal". But he doesn't encourage the two at all regardless, they just are friendlier.
From there they're is a lot of potential routes we can take their dynamics to. Stryker could reconnect with the kids if Kabal dies. Kobra can become a villain after witnessing just how powerless he is during the first Shao Kahn invasion and he wishes to protect his partner in crime but gets corrupted. Kabal can have a satisfying redemption. Honestly I think these four together can have a really emotional plot together.
Also in terms of gameplay perspective, if Kobra and Kira are street smarts kid instead of a violent martial artist and another femme fatale, maybe we can have them fight in a sort of tag team duo ? Like one is doing the physical confrontation while the other is taking a back role and they fight in a dirty way to get advantages on their opponents, but instead of being brutal like Kano, or cunning like Erron Black, they are tricksters characters? And before their characters development, or fall from grace, the both of them use non lethal stuff to deal with problems, unlike Rambo who kinda functions like a lethal version of them ?
But, hey, it's just a suggestion, what do you guys think ?
Sounds like it has a lot of potential. I think the parental dynamic in the later stages of a story route could be expanded with the cops, you could bring in Kabal's flip-flopping to evil, maybe tempted by Havik (like I like to think happened in the old timeline), and he could be a more evil influence on the duo, and maybe Stryker could try to guide them more in a traditionally good moral direction. The tension between the two directions could formulate some sort of rift between Kobra and Kira that they have to resolve. (Or they become enemies.)
You might be able to age them up as well since they could meet the cops in Mk9, and age in the time between that game and MkX. Of course, that would require either Stryker's and Kabal's revenants being cured or a past iteration of the characters coming back like in Mk11 in order to justify a four-way story arc.
In terms of the kids' Mk9 encounter, perhaps they are arrested after a brief fight or cutscene, but the cops have to protect them during the invasion of Earthrealm, since the fight could occur moments before the portal opens. That way you could have a lot more time for the characters to interact, and some interesting dynamics with the kids' reactions after Sindel goes on her murdering spree. That might inform how they develop after the time skip, before either reuniting with the cops at some point in the Mk11 place in the timeline, or their continued relevance to the story during an MkX period in their relationship with the revenants.

XD By the way even i'm not planning on writing it right now, it comes from an Mk reboot I want to do called "Mk Let's make things right" where I think of a way to bring out the potential of everyone without caring about gameplay issues.
Other examples include: Johnny Cage befriending Reptile in Mk1 and the lattee becoming an anti-hero
Bringing back Special Forces only characters, especially No-Face to make the Black Dragon seems actually threatening, and because Tremor redesign was pretty good so I'd say No-Face deserves to have a shot at being rebooted too.
Or Meat having a character arc.
New timeline Kano should be perfectly serviceable he’s a jobber/rival with a fun asshole personality
With a game that has literal gods as playable characters I feel that Kano always losing isn’t a downside rather it’s kind of an expected thing
I like new Kano more then old Kano even if he is a bigger jobber. Really it's generic mook vs generic mook with a kinda fun personality.
I like Erron Black a lot, but I don't disagree he wasn't used well. However he had one of the best Arcade endings in the last game and it said a lot about his character. He seems like a very neutral character so it'd be interesting to see something new with him. He'd be far better off as a lone wolf type then a henchman.

IMO, Kitana got absolutely fucked over by MK11. She is tortured/hurt in several tower endings(Twindel's, Baraka's IIRC, Skarlet's, and Mileena's) and isn't even happy in her own tower ending. She gets shat on in story mode. IDK why NRS hates her, but it's gross. Also, the only thing I'd change about Mileena's arcade ending is having her forcing Kitana in her New Era to love her, like she did with Raiden, Liu Kang and Jade.

In my opinion Rain should have been this character who wanted a free Edenia no matter the consequences with Tanya it’s clear she wanted it for selfish reasons but with rain it’s selfless maybe he’s trying to earn his fathers love by doing this but whatever the reason he’ll do whatever to free Edenia no matter who gets harmed

Tremor’s liked because of his intro dialogues with Kano and Bo Rai Cho in MKX where it’s implied he turned against the Black Dragon and was trying to get used to a good heart, whereas in the comics he’s just treated like the same goon he was in Special Forces

Actually MK X Shinnok was doing perfectly fine until the script fell on him in the end. At least the Mk4 comic did him justice even if the finale is basically perfect Cell's death.
I only disagree with New Kano. He should of been put in wasted cuz his character personality is all there but like you said they just don't ever do anything with him and he always loses. (He is my favorite character so I'm bias)

The only part that had me like “wait, hold up!” was when new timeline Tonya was casually thrown on ‘has great potential’. She offers next to nothing to the new timeline story. Even Kenshi has more impact on the story, and I agree he is boring as hell. Just kinda seemed like stuff was getting thrown wherever towards the end

I definitely agree that the NRS writing is inconsistent, but I also think a lot of characters can’t fully be judged yet in the new timeline because for a lot of them there’s only intro dialogues to go off of. There’s 8+ games to look at in the “original” timeline while there’s only 3 games you can really look at in the new timeline.
Drahmin should've been "Absolutely Wasted". I mean, with an actual backstory, if explored deeply in the concept arts of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance revealing his history as a once ruthless warlord of Outworld but was then banished into the Netherrealm as punishment undergoing brutal experiences during his time there and then later revealing his final makeup and all. With all of that to back it up, Netherrealm Studios should've been a lot wise enough to utilize him further and make him a relevant character in the series.
