  • George is a big fan of the Sony A7S II, and has been using it for many years. So, naturally he was excited to try out the Sony A7S III, and even more excited once he saw the spec list.
    George tested out a range of new features, and set up some side-by-side comparisons with the new and old body, to find out exactly how much they've upgraded the A7S III over it's predecessor.

    i’m so on the fence because i love the a7s111 but i am amos eyeballing the fx3 which comes with xlr and grip. they are both around the same price and then there is the a7r v with 61 mp 8k 24 fps video. does rolling shutter only act up when your panning the camera or when it is still on a tripod and there is video movement is there no rolling shutter? thanks for the great review video what should you do with these three cameras your call and decision is appreciated

    Didi you notice any Dual ISO like feature in a7s2 as well.? I think A7s2 also has a similar feature at 12800 in slog 2. please check that out and let us know..Thank you for the comparison.

    Really loved this comparison. Very informative. I notice that in an outdoor situation when I am recording in SLog2 on my A7SII the monitor is so dim that I cannot see what I am filming. I understand the slog2 is very flat, but the monitor itself definitely has it's brightness ramped way down. I am curious how the A7SIII's monitor looks with slog2 video recording? Is it brighter and the A7SII?

    First of all, 'Great review/comparison'..! I shoot video In extreme low-light with the a7sii. Mostly in (nature/wildlife) situations, at iso's often starting at +104200
    So i'm wondering how the noise reduction is in the higher 104200+ iso's ... It's said to be cleaner than the a7a2..
    ---But is the s3 cleaning up the noise in the shadows at the cost of details in those high iso's..? ..just like the a73 does?
    ...if so, that would mean the s2 would still be better for me, as I can easily clean up the 'more' noise in post without loosing the details..
    If in the s3 the noise at those high iso's is cleaned up at the cost of the details, ..it would be useless for me, as I cannot bring back lost details in post....
    I'm really interested in that particular comparison... really high iso's and the noise vs details in shadows compared to the sii ...

      Hi Delta Lima! We're very glad you enjoyed our review. We would like to recommend the Sony GM 24-70mm f/2.8. We pretty much only use that lens for everything as you get a good wide angle along with something a bit more telephoto. It's also a 2.8 aperture so shallow depth of field is easily accomplished!
      Hope this helps!

    Can you corroborate whether the a7s III records gyroscopic meta-data that, when processed through the Browse app of the Sony Creative Software Catalyst product, can yield superior image stabilization of the sort possible with the FX9? This was mentioned in a July 25 "tidbit" posted by Sony Alpha Rumors, and also in a recent P. Bloom video. But the feature is not explicitly promised in the "features" described at the primary Sony page for the a7s III. Nor have any reviewers, to date, confirmed that the a7s III video files presently contain the gyro meta-data or whether Browse can iron out the bothersome jogging that impairs tracking shots. Better that that tool were an in-camera option, but still important to know whether the Browse approach exists and works.

I'd say it's totally forgiveable, especially for something like a camera where a wrong purchase could easily lead to years of disappointment and/or thousands of dollars.

    • @WexPhotoVideo
      @WexPhotoVideo  Před 3 lety +4

      Hi Nico,
      It does appear the A7S III has some banding on the timestamp you mentioned. I believe this is for two reasons, firstly the CZcams compression is severe, so some banding may be introduced.
      Secondly, at that stage in the testing we were filming at over 100,000 ISO, so some banding is likely to appear when taking the camera to such extreme values.
      I hope you enjoyed the video! GJ.

    If you Film even some times with an gimbal the a7s2 is useless. I own this camera and like it really much but the AF makes nearly a useless toy cam on the gimbal. Scenes which has to AF are only usable when tried 30 times or if it is possible to speed up the af time. You nearly has no right focus while filming. Setting AF from 6m to 2Miners takes like 4-10 seconds. Awefull. But do not like the 12MP. I never thought I would miss MP. It’s consumer traplike marketing stuff. But with 12MP you do not have a small range of re framing the shot in post. No room for cropping. So die too am not willing to buy two cams, I think I have to pick the a7s4 because of the useless a7s2 AF. I would prefer the s if it only would have 20mp.

    • @urbanstreet_4282
      @urbanstreet_4282 Před rokem

      The purpose of the 12 MP in the "S" is the better low-light performance. If you can live with that, sure, get yourself an a7IV. It still has a good ISO performance and you can crop in as much as you want.

    7:00 what?? the a7sII is brighter?

    • @WexPhotoVideo
      @WexPhotoVideo  Před 3 lety

      Hi, it does appear that the A7S II is brighter, but there is significantly more noise in the shot on the A7S II, so you can push the ISO higher more comfortably on the new body.
      I did also wonder if the A7S II appears brighter due to the difference in colour science, and the orange hue in the image, rather than actually being brighter, but I will have to wait until I get the camera again to test that!

    • @WexPhotoVideo
      @WexPhotoVideo  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Petru,
      You are correct, shooting in 10 bit will have no effect on the exposure of the image that comes out of camera. The reason I mentioned exposure is 10 bit video retains more detail and gives you more control to raise or lower the exposure when colour grading. I found this extremely useful, as on the A7S II the 8 bit video does not provide that level of control.
      Thanks for watching! GJ

    Why does nobody mention the fact that it only has 12mp sensor, will this take better images than a 61mp sensor ?

    • @WexPhotoVideo
      @WexPhotoVideo  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Colin,
      The Sony A7S III is primarily a video camera, and having a high mp count matters less in video than it does in photography. For example, you need around 8mp to record a video in 4k, once you have more mp than that the sensor will be cropped, so it will have no major impact on the image quality of the video.
      For photography, having a high mp sensor will have a large effect on the quality of your photos and the size of the images, but when filming video it has considerably less of an impact.
      I hope that clears it up! Thanks for watching, GJ.
