I had FX30 for about half year and it has the best 4k60p video quality in all Sony system cuz it’s sampled from 6k. Although the sensitivity in dark condition is not great but I use sigma mc11 converter to use sigma 18-35mm f1.8 lens and this issue can be solved. I’d really recommend this lens and it’s very nice❤

There are a few reasons why someone would buy an FX30 over something full frame, that don’t have anything to do with cost. Keeping lenses small, and being able to go super wide with screw on filter threads (like with the Laowa 9mm) would be reason enough for myself. Wildlife videography at 60fps is another thing I could see benefiting from the cropped sensor in my case.

    • @MikeBSalazar

Budget is also my biggest reason for going s35 instead of FF. The week the FX30 was announced, I sold all of my Fuji camera and lenses knowing full well that everything I need from a camera body is in the FX30. @@MikeBSalazar for vertical videos, as much as I want a wide angle lens, the barrel distortion is really bad. So the lenses that I prioritize are above 16mm. I have the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 for versatility, and looking to get a fast aperture fixed lens around 23/24mm (35mm FF)(Maybe the Samyang 24mm f1.8) and 30/35mm (50mm FF)(Sigma 30mm f1.4). But wide angle lenses are really fun for horizontal videos, and I highly consider it for CZcams... might get the Sony 11mm f1.8 later and with Clear Image Zoom, I can get the 11mm zoomed in to 16mm... though with the risk of losing eye autofocus

I don't want to be controversial however, I find that the colors of the A7S III are a bit off compared to my FX9 which does not have that w/b problem. But when I shoot with the FX30 I did not notice any color shift after white balancing the camera. Other people have complained about the same problem with the A7S III. I don't know but I like the FX30 a lot when I shoot broll with that little camera. And about the low light capability of the FX30, I think people don't know much about reducing noise in low light conditions. There are so many newbies in these business that they know nothing about what they are talking about. In general the FX30 is still a good camera in low light. And yes, I rather shoot with the FX30 than the A7S III. And I have access to both cameras so I know what I am talking about.

Excellent point about the FX-30 vs A74. The A74 is primarily a photographer's tool for taking stills. The FX-30 is a dedicated video camera. This has to help those interested in video vs. stills. I love stills, love the EVF and have little use for video but a lot of use for stills. I like the Sony is making major strides in expanding and perfecting its lineup.

Definitely want to add an FX30 to my kit. Right now as a hybrid shooter the A7IV is a staple for me and the crop in 4k60 is actually a welcome thing for sports highlights. My biggest gripe on the A7IV is no 4k120 and no 10 bit color in 1080 120, but for hybrid sports the FX30 would not cut it standalone. Hoping to have both the A7IV and FX30 on the sidelines by next year.

I think you have to pick what is in your best interest. I picked up my A7SIII at Best Buy open boxed in mint condition for $2729.99, with 22 shutter clicks. I still own and use Blackmagic for controlled lighting interviews and production with a speed booster and Nikon full frame glass. The Blackmagic still has features that only the fx6 has like shutter angle and it has incredible Dynamic range, but I only use it on sticks, the A7SIII will be used with a gymbal.
Our company does photography and videography, but the goal was to eventually go for one system to shoot photos and videography and to eventually get a fx6, which I missed out on by five minutes, four days ago at B&H because I went to prepare myself breakfast at 5:00AM and someone else pushed the order button first.
I had been waiting for over two years for the Fx6, but I guess I can wait a little longer. I own the A9, A7IV, which I traded in an A7 III for and the A7RIII, which all have specific uses. I will live with the A7SIII for a bit as that is a great run and gun camera and for its autofocus.
I had considered the Fx30, but because of the price that I got, with the A7SIII, I went with it instead because all of my glass, third party primes and GM is full frame, so it just makes sense. Also the Fx3/fx30 top handle with XLR actually works on the A7SIII and A7IV with a Smallrig cage and Smallrig Adapter, with extension bracket, which I now own for both cameras bringing my price up to what an A7SIII would cost by itself alone. The Fx3’s top handle XLR brackets do pop up from time to time on Ebay for good prices and one of the XLR top handles that I purchased was from a guy who had bought a brand new fx30, but didn’t need or want the handle. The other XLR Top handle was used from Adorama, both bought on EBay.

I wouldnt say the FX30 is revolutionary, in some ways I find it somewhat disappointing, particularly the oddities it has when using HDMI, and the 120fps crop, although I'm aware of *why* it does these things. Thanks for stopping by. I've own the A7III and loved it, but I slowly looked for more video features out of my camera until I arrived at this FX30. If you want a real video dedicated camera that can shoot some photos (like thumbnails), this is it. If you shoot 4K or not, this thing will not overheat with the internal fan so as long as you got the battery for it, your podcasts will be covered.
Generally, the Sigma 16-50 F/2.8 is a good start as it has a wide to telephoto coverage for everyday shooting. For my talking head videos I've been using a Tokina 11-18 F/2.8 if you want a a wider look.

  • @AMomentInTimeProductions

yeah you don't need Full frame really, That camera is even NETFLIX approved meaning you can shoot movies and stuff and have your movie on NETFLIX.
I've tested video on the FX3 Full Frame, And also The FX30 Crop sensor , and the images look just as good on the FX30, the only thing the full frame gives you that you can't get with the Crop sensor, is #1 more light with the same ISO and Aperture and Shutter speed, you get about 1.5 stops more light, no biggie, you can make that back up easy, #2 is you can blur the background a lot easier with full frame, again not a big deal i have a a couple lenses that has F2.8 and F1.8 which both blur the background easy..
I can even do it with my 18-105 F4.0 lens just zoom in and get closer and i get a good out of focus background as well..
there is also draw backs to Full frame as well, you can't get the same zoom range with full frame sensor, as you do with the APSC sensor, in other words if you have a 50mm on your FX30
you would need a 80MM lens on the Fx3 to get the same focal length..so if you got a 70-200 on your FX30 your getting more zoom range then if you had that lens on the FX3..
Full Frame is over rated, i don't care about full frame, it's not an advantage to me for what i shoot and so i'm good with a crop sensor, and hey super 35mm camera does an amazing job shooting video..
for photography tho, i do have a Hasselblad H6D-100c Medium Format camera that is amazing for portrait photography you can't get better image quality then that with any other camera anywhere.
Yes it does cost over $30,000.00 but that camera made it's money back doing High end wedding photography, i was shooting weddings for Billionaire CEO"s and politicians, and some celebrity musicians, who had the money to pay for what i charged for a wedding shoot, basically anywhere from $15,000.00 to $20,000.00 for a wedding shoot.
You can't charge that kind of money shooting with a full frame DSLR or mirrorless camera because it doesn't have the same image and color quality as the H6 does, it's 14 bit color capture.
And creating enlargements with Medium Format looks amazing it's a 100 Mega pixel camera and the sensor size is 100MP 53.4 x 40mm CMOS sensor
even the Fujifilm GFX 100 Medium Format it's not true 100% medium format the sensor size is 100MP 43.8 x 32.9mm BSI CMOS sensor,
no where near as large as the H6.. Yeah LOL the FUjifilm medium format is really a Medium format crop sensor LOL Not True Medium Format size. that's why it's only $10,000.00
and of course the image quality on the H6 is way better, yes it's over $30,000.00 the Fujifilm Medium format camera is only $10,000.00 but when you shoot with the Fujifilm medium format then shoot with the H6 Medium Format you know where the extra $20,000.00 went into right away..
This is why Billionaire's and CEO's and celebrity's who have money choose to have their important wedding shot with a camera like the H6 is because Quality mans something to them and they have the money to pay for it..
My camera and all the gear for it was paid for in 4 wedding shoots, it cost me over 30,000.00 for the Camera body and another $15,000.00 for the lenses but it paid for itself and made me tons of money fast.. With a camera like that H6 you can recover in gear expenses fast...

By the way the New Black magic 6Kpro is a larger sensor then the BM 4k, the 6kPro is super 35mm just like the Sony Fx30..
And it does have touch Autofocus but not tracking, it only will autofocus on what you touch on the screen and it's not continuous, you if you move the camera you have to touch the screen again, so doing manual focus is probably better way to go, unless you have the camera on a tri-pod and just want to film a blog or some one in place not moving like a youtube broadcast or something like that.
Other then that it doesn't have continuous auto focus still, which is stupid they should have just programed it to do continuous autofocus, because i think that is a deal breaker for many people they would have sold more camera's if it had continuous autofocus..
My theory is they are not up to par in continuous autofocus tracking like Sony Or Canon or Fujifilm camera's have.
how ever if you buy any blackmagic video cameras you get the full pro version of Davinci resolve for free but, that isn't a reason for me to buy the camera, that would be just a perk.
Other then it not having continuous autofocus, the camera does have good video quality..
they are 2 things about the Sony Fx30 that i wish they would fix, and they could fix this in firmware update..
#1 The ability to record in 4K 120 externally while using Cine EI S-Log3 Shooting, You can't do 4k 120 with an external recorder like the Ninja V+ while shooting In S-LOG at all.
it only can do it internally that means you have to buy expensive SD cards (SD UHS2 V90 cards) for a 512 GB card it cost around $500.00.
shooting externally you can buy a 2TB SSD drive for around $130.00
#2 if you have your Media Dur HDMI output set to ON, you can't and also have any stabilization turned ON you have to set the HDMI output set to off meaning HDMI ONLY.
they could change all this in firmware update not sure why they won't allow you to record 4k 120P externally to the Ninja V+ because the Ninja V+ can do it.
My guess is they do this intentionally to promote the sales of SD cards or Sony CFexpress type A cards, other than that i see no reason to do this.
Some one should make a video on this so every Fx30 owner bugs Sony to fix this, if not they won't bother..
So all you Sony FX30 Owners call Sony Support and bug the shit out of them to change this in a new firmware update, because this is a stupid mistake to leave that ability out.

      @AMomentInTimeProductions Před rokem

@@MikeBSalazar yeah the CF-express dummy cards to ssd are looking good, and a great way to save you money on media storage to record on..
think about it when you start recording in 4k 60 Prores RAW that is going to take some serious media storage to record to , 512 GB is not going to really give you a whole lot of record time, maybe what 20 min to 30 minutes of record time, so if your doing a project or a wedding and need to film 2 hours of footage that is going to cost you some serious money in SD cards to record to, sense 512 GB cost around $500.00 each.
You Need at least 2 TB of space to Record a wedding with at least 2 hours of video, other wise it's not going to happen..
how ever if you get the CF-express to SSD converter you could get yourself a M.2 SSD 4TB for about $400.00 or so and that is some serious media storage that would be fine.

It’s downgrade times ? I think is good to invest money to have better equipment it’s last for longer,

To me asking what is better full frame or cropped frame is the wrong question. Which size best suits my needs is the right question. I recently did a wedding and I felt that my sony a6600 did okay in low light at the reception during dancing, but not great. So I wonder if I need full frame for receptions or just a more open lens. My kit lens is only 3.5-5.6, so not sure if a 2.8 zoom lens would help substantially in lower light conditions.

    • @mrbutts2597
      @mrbutts2597 Před rokem +1

You should be lighting your receptions. Get a pair of cheap LED lights and throw them on a light stand. Or if you can’t do that, then you need to get some fast prime lenses. But seriously though light it properly because even FF you will have to bump up the ISO in very dark scenarios. Just youtube, “how to light wedding reception” and there’s plenty of educational resources out there.
