You need to get an A7iii! Don’t be a fool 😂
Get the sony a7iii. The HLG2 (PP10) is far and away the ultimate color profile. it's almost the same amount of dynamic range as SLOG, but is far easier to grade, and can be used straight out of the camera if its really necessary.
Do you still have the licenses for the images you have used after you cancel artgrid?

A7sii all the way broski.!!! I just bought myself an a7sii coming from an iPhone so definitely an upgrade for me lol..the a7sii has been a great game changer for me and coming from an iPhone let me say it has opened many doors of creativity for me. I hear you when you said it forces your creativity when you have little to work with and have too do everything manually..my a7sii is my first mirrorless camera and full frame! Thx for all the great content man. You’ve been a great inspiration and only pushing the limits on creativity..KEEP EM ROLLIN #a7sii all the way !!!

Dear Sony.... we are STILL waiting for the A7 SIII. I've got a lot of Sony e-mount lenses, but I am thinking about switching to BlackMagic 6K, which has an EF mount...😏
p.s. Still very happy with the A7III. Sure the 8 bit isn't wonderful, the screen is crap, but just like you said... get it right in camera an it looks awesome!

I feel you on the lens selection. honestly as a previous canon owner i just adapted all of the lenses to sony system because of price. now with the bmpcc 6k and other options using ef glass its a happy accident for me 😅. I am curious about the a7siii, but i keep looking into the GH5 because of its bit rate.
@@dna8269 you guys really want a bmpcc? do you know how big the files are? have to create a small rig for it with a ssd, battery pack, pull focus if you have a gimbal and attachments. it sounds like a pain for run and gun shoots that the a7iii does so well
@@sungkim465 yeah i'd roll with a 4k even though the 6k is sick just because the file sizes are obscene. Stabilized lens on a handheld rig with some weight to it is a good handheld setup..i actually use a cage and rig for my a7iii too because the extra weight is nice. It's definitely not as convenient as an a7iii, but grading 12 bit and not having to deal with the bizarre shit that occurs in Sony 8 bit footage is worth it to me

Been trying to get around to watching the rest of this for a while now. Some top knowledge in there and I had huge issues with 8-bit s log too so I switched to cine a while back. Obviously, we’re all interested to see what kind of heat the a7siii packs. Also really like how you talk about using the limitations as part of learning and pushing yourself. Too many of us buy new gear just because it’s “new”

im shooting on an a7iii as an "a" cam and just picked up an a6600 with a 18-105mm as my "b" cam. The only two lenses i have for the a7iii are the 50 1.8 and the 16-35 f4. love the vids dude. youve helped me more than you know along my filmmaking journey.
Loving the upload frequency James 🙌 So what do you use the BMPCC6K for primarily if you still want a mirrorless camera? I was under the impression the Blackmagic was your new camera for everything haha
P6K/P4K is great but if you need to get a shot quick and not fuck about too much then it can really cost you time.

James Matthews Yeah man. It’s awesome to look back at all you’ve done and what you’ve created with a camera. You’ve obviously worked the a7sii much longer but it’s great to see it still running after all this time 👌🏽 Despite what some people say about Sony. They make workhorse cameras.

Been shooting with two A6300 for the past four years and I know exactly how to get the most out of it! Learned a lot the same way you did, like grading shitty 8-bit codec, but I'm thankful since it helped me to improve my skills!
As u mentioned - nail the exposure in camera is crucial. It's tricky with Sony 8 bit - if I protect highlights, the shadows instantly falling apart just after i think about lifting them :D Do u have some advice for balancing exposure or work in post?

LONG LIVE THE LOWLIGHT KING!! - Still holds better fine detail at higher ISO's than a7iii's which smear the detail due to Artificial Noise Reduction.
Sony needs to bring out the big guns soon if Canon's R5 actually delivers decent video ! ( Would honestly just love a rock solid 10bit codec, with quality 4K/60 )
a7III have a great AF and have a downscaled picture from 6K to 4K, but a7sII great at hight ISO.
I think the X-T4 is close to perfect for your filmmaking style. The colors on point.

I still have a7sii and i'll keep it until i turn my grading skill at next lvl. For me, process and creativity are the point i want to focus on.
I sold my A7sii about 3 weeks ago. It’s been a great camera but I was using it less and less since buying the A7iii. I’ve also learnt a lot using that camera and working around it’s limitations.
Great video dude, I just picked up a Sony A7Sii even tho its 2020 lol, going through the learning processes you mentioned in this video.
I think I'm gonna hold onto it and learn to master it as best as possible and wait it out until Sony announced the A7Siii at which point I'll be upgrading.

I'm exactly the same. Its served its purpose and i'll still keep in my bag as a B-cam or back up. But its time to step up now
Do you have a video over that picture profile you mentioned around 4:15? Been trying and struggling to work with S-Log2 and I'm about over it. I'd be super interested in knowing how you get such great dynamic range and colors out of your sii.

great vid! I'm definitely a little bias but I think the Gh4 and Gh5 were the next steps forward for cameras. Finally gave us 4K 60p (and tons of other features) at an affordable price.

I´m on Sony a7 III with the GM 24-70mm f/2.8 for two years already, it's been a great and reliable camera for every works, but I´ll switch to another camera with a more solid 10bit codec and 4K at 60 FPS.
I've been waiting for the a7S III since ever but nothing yet from Sony so I'll probably switch to the new 1DX MK3. Its a pain in the ass because of my Sony lenses and I really love Sony but it's been way too long without anything new for video.

Nice vid mate. I still use it along with an Atomos recorder. I guess I just have an affection for it. I’ve got an FS7, Red scarlet W and an Arri plus. I still find myself picking up the A7sii. It’s been great for me

I’m still shooting on a Canon 80d just because I don’t know what to upgrade to and also even though it’s not full frame or has 4K it’s been doing a good job for me. I reckon the Canon R5 is gonna be huge!
100% agree with you. 8bit in 2020 doesn’t cut it any more. I don’t think people realize the huge difference between 8bit and a jump to 10bit. Color grading 8bit like you said it pure garbage and god forbid you try color grading the s log in 120p you can say bye to your footage. I see the black magic 6k is treating you well. Your color grading looks unreal man and I’m glad you have the proper tool to take you to the next level.
Your friends that told you to simply switch to the Sony a 7iii were correct. That’s what I did. I’ve never looked back. I sold my 87S to one year ago and purchased a second a7iii and I mix that footage with the Sony F 55 and it looks gorgeous! Yes even and very low light.
I have been really liking the A6600 more than I thought I would. I got it mainly for my wife to shoot stills, but I have to test it out for myself and set it up for her so I have been using it as a B Cam for my A7iii. Been awesome. I hope the A7Siii will be the next evolution for the cameras, but I have a speculation that it could be this new Canon R5. I hope Sony steps up their game again.

Any ideas on you’re replacement for the A7sii yet? I’ve kind of falling back in love with my sony as i picked up the Sirui Anamorphic it’s loads of fun. I have the 1dx mkiii on order but hoping Sony are gonna bring a hybrid out with 10 bit minimum. ( not looking likely any time soon ). An A7s3 won’t be the “ Hybrid” i want unless it has an 24mp sensor ( Unlikely ). The 1dxiii is looking like an absolute beast. So I’m in limbo at the moment. Anyway I’m rambling, surprise surprise. 👍
A7iii for me, had it for just over a year now and love it. Hoping to get myself a second body but I'm unsure if I should get something cheaper or wait and upgrade the main and keep the A7iii as a second so I feel your pain man!

Excellent video James! When, if ever, will Sony come out with the A7s3? I’ve been using both the a7r3 and the a73 and they’re sooooo much better - battery life alone makes them a worthy upgrade. al escuchar todo lo que dice con su experiencia de usar estos productos de sony, me pregunto si he estado viviendo en un mundo alterno, llevo 10 años usando cmaras de sony, desde la a55, a77 I y II, a6000, a6500 y a7II... Y nunca he tenido problemas ni para mi trabajo personal ni el comercial, y eso que les doy uso rudo, casi diario, miles de disparos fotográficos y videos tomados con estas cámaras !! estoy satisfecho y muy contento con los resultados y desempeño desde los cuerpos, objetivos (lentes), tarjetas de memoria y baterías, todo de marca sony. :( es triste que por videos con comentarios tan buenos también tenga comentarios taaaaaan malos que puedan negarle la oportunidad a alguien de poder usar esta marca que hoy por hoy es la que impulsa y abre caminos en el campo de la fotografía digital.
