When I decided to leave the cult I was in my early 20's. Being a born in, it was a big decision. I knew things were never going to be the same again. This was a turning point. The Rubicon. At least it felt that way to me. I put it off until I got a phone call. This Jehovah witness asked me point blank, do you want to be a Jehovah witness? I didn't. I was done with it. It was like a great weight was lifted off of me. My life improved greatly. Now, I could focus on my family and my career. Family members tried to get me to return to the fold to no avail. There was no going back to that life style. I had control of my own life now and I would never give that up. All the horror stories about people that leave the cult become drug addicts and get involved in wild sex and rock and roll. That is just watchtower propaganda, to make you be afraid to leave.

I had a friend from school who joined Jehovah's Witness. We used to watch Preston North End at the weekend and play with my dog, then she ghosted me. I figured it was just one of those things that happen in life, then about 11 years later she knocked on my door in her capacity as a Jehovah's Witness. She had a child with her that looked about 9 or 10. By this time, I looked very different and lived in a different house. I asked if she remembered me, but she said she didn't. She left some literature and that was that. I hope she's okay, she was a good person and a good friend during a difficult time in my life.

Immediately I read this, I remembered this video by an ex-JW speaking about friendships with outsiders as a Witness and how she would end them and then forget about a person altogether as a matter of course. In her example she ran into a friend years later who had a profound memory of her, but she could scarcely remember this lady at all. czcams.com/video/YCYsDHagfbI/video.html

Baptism of Christian Jehovah's Witnesses is only to be done when the person accepts that Jehovah is the True God and that Christ Jesus is the Anointed One appointed by Jehovah to be the King of the Kingdom of God, and the ransom provided by God for forgiveness of sins. Baptism of Christian Jehovah's Witness is a sign of both repentance for sinful tendencies (John the Baptist baptism) and dedication to the promotion of the Kingdom of God (baptism of Christ Jesus). It is a requirement stipulated by Christ Jesus in Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:38; 8:12; 18:8. In fact, those are two things that are stipulated at the Conventions of Jehovah' Witnesses when and where baptisms are conducted. After the Baptismal Public Talk and prior to the baptismal candidates being baptized which they are to answer before being baptized.

Jehovah' Witnesses, in general, DO NOT VIEW people outside the organization as wicked or evil. It is the actions and attitudes that are in conflict to the requirements of Jehovah God, as stipulated by His Laws known as Torah, Pentateuch or Five Books of Moses (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy). Jehovah's Witnesses view as bad and wicked the attitudes and actions that lead to all sorts of harmful addictions and is based on Galatians 5:19-23 and 6:6, 8 which Christ Jesus warned against at Matthew 26:41. Based on what this young lady has experienced shows that Romans 1:24, 28 has been fulfilled in her case because she has failed to follow the example of the apostle Paul at Romans 7:21-25.

Then I learned about the history - freemasons, false prophecies, etc . I became very confused but still thought they had the Truth. Then one day I decided to talk to Jesus, to thank him for dying for me. (First I asked Jehovah to forgive me if it was wrong to pray to Jesus.) Well Jesus showed himself to me in a special way, and I immediately knew it was HIM who was the Truth! What a difference!

One thing that was discussed here, that usually is not emphasized, is the repetitiveness of the teachings/dogma, being pounded into your head three times a week. Five hours a week we are told over and over about how we are wrongdoers and shouldn't do this, but should do that, but still aren't doing enough of that. We are always "falling short" and always getting emotionally and spiritually beat up on.
I've watched a lot of other interviews that haven't gone into this aspect. In this particular interview it was brought up and just a little amount of time focused on it, but was direct and to-the-point.
It really made me think, when someone is taught over and over, multiple hours per week, week after week, month after month and year after year about what we're supposed to do what we can't do how wrong we are, what sinners we are, etc., it really does damage on the emotional psyche.
Most other churches do not do that to this extreme extent. And, if a teacher did that to our children at school, we would not tolerate that kind of behavior. We would not allow that teacher to ridicule our children, tell them how bad they are and that they're going to die if they don't straighten up their act. We wouldn't tolerate it if they repetitively told our children that they were unworthy and don't deserve eternal life and they should be thankful because if they do enough of what is required, then *only* because Jehovah "loves" us, he might let us survive Armageddon and make it into the "new system.". (I am putting quotes around "love" and probably should put them around "Jehovah " also. ). How does that mess with your head. with this kind of training, nobody is worthy just because of being bims. They have to jump through Fire reasons and make watchtower in the government body and continue to meet up to the strict and constant changing set of requirements in order to almost be worthy of something minimal!
Watchtower teaches us that Jehovah is loving and therefore there is no hellfire. (Oh, "what a loving god he is!" And they make that seem like the reason why you should love him and that he is so gracious to us. But all of that beating up on us for not doing enough and not doing it right we're not doing it perfect is probably equally damaging as the religions that teach that there is a hellfire. How is that loving?
At some point it dawned on me that I might not believe in God anymore. If God was supreme and he could make all the rules, why would he Force his son, that he is supposed to love, to suffer and be tortured and die as redemption? He could have made anything be the penabce. He could say he waves his magic wand and everybody is forgiven for their sin. or they can fast once we will be forgiven for their sins. He could say that he will have each person blow out a candle on the first day of each month and they will be forgiven . But no, he picks something so cruel and so unloving to do to someone he's supposed to love and make that the one action that is supposed to pardon us of sins we haven't even committed yet. Try to pull off your blinders and your rose colored God-glasses and *try* to wrap your head around that!!! It absolutely makes no sense.
Sometimes I think about doing a video on all of these ideas. But, as cults do, they find a way to trap you, in Watchtower's case, via holding your family hostage. It is just disgusting
Anyway, I love this channel so far!

I would like advice from any ex-JW. I am an atheist, ex RC, and one of my good friends is a devout Witness. Apart from the fact she gets a bit preachy sometimes, we get on very well though I avoid the subject. I know she has few non-JW friends. Is our friendship something then church would discourage? All JW members I've known have been the nicest people, and I don't feel that I ought to call her faith a cult to her face, though I believe it is. She is very happy in her beliefs, and as a divorced woman, she is deeply appreciative of her many friendships within her faith, and enjoys going out on ministry and to conventions. I hope our friendship will last, though I assume it is possible the religion might one day break it. I don't feel that I should be 'rescuing' her from a cult- it would be different if she was unhappy, or if she were in a more extreme cult like Scientology. Should I be as concerned as if she was in Scientology? I have born-again Christian friends that have had a lot more trouble with their churches than she has.

One might disagree with the criteria for being ex-communicated, disfellowshipped, dismissed, etc, sure, that's totally fine, but the idea that such a practice should simply never happen, simply doesn't make sense. We don't do that at work or even in a social club or a group of friends.
She got divorced...when she did that, she dismissed her husband from the family they had created, and I'm not saying she shouldn't have done that, but that's exactly my point...There isn't NEVER a good reason to terminate a relationship with someone, and sometimes that termination is peer-to-peer, sometimes it's bottom (resignation) sometimes it's top-down (disfellowship), that's just the way it is.
The story of Lot's wife is one of those over-simplified things...although it's not without issues...I still want to know what was going through Lot's mind when he thought it was a good idea to give his daughters up to those men who wanted to r*pe the angels who came to rescue them from the destruction of Sodom, but as for the looking back part....it's not just a matter of looking over your shoulder, it's a matter of looking back at the loss of what is being left behind, which is literally a city of r*pists whose time to face judgment had come, just we want to see r*pists and murderers face justice today, albeit we don't necessarily want God to do it.

  • @mariselaperezrubio6709

Sects are break-away groups from more mainstream religions and tend to be in tension with society. Cults and new religious movements fall outside this continuum and in contrast to aforementioned groups often have a novel teaching.
The word cult can be broadly defined as "formal religious veneration," "a system of religious beliefs and its body of adherents," "a religion regarded as 'unorthodox or spurious,'" "great devotion to a person or idea" as well as "persons united by devotion or allegiance to an artistic or intellectual movement or figure ..
But what differentiates a cult from a religion? Followers see themselves as believers, even disciples-not cult members. Families, law enforcement, media, and other religious leaders, however, rely on the word “cult” to discredit, call out, or accuse these groups. Who has the final word, and what is behind the word itself?
Cult is a term that doesn’t refer to religion at all, but is applied to a social movement. People have intuitive feelings about how the word cult should be used, even when an organization or movement meets the criteria of a new religion.

You know what you have, but you never know what you can get. I for one have never been happier, nor more tranquil after leaving. This is the real life! What a great video thank you. The JW idea of baptism is "wacky". Baptism is a public declaration of your commitment to follow Jesus Christ, and then you do that, but not with lots of rules and regulation and with people watching over you. Baptism should never add pressure. Glad to hear that you would never return to the JWs. However, you will find salvation at a good Bible believing church where there is no pressure to do or not to do. "Jesus Christ is Lord". See John 3:16
