My dad used to have a 1991 4x4 Nissan D21. I loved it. I learned to drive in it.
Now, it wasn't permanent 4x4, and to engage it you had to manually lock each front wheel dice. So when we had to go through some rough terrain my father would stop and have me get out and lock both front wheels. And when it was over I would have to get out again and unlock them.
Good times.

FYI guys- for the C/K General Motors trucks the “C” indicated it was a 2WD and a “K” indicated it was 4x4.
Also- 10 meant 1/2 ton (you could get short or long bed), 20 meant 3/4 ton (was always long bed), and 30 meant 1 ton.

D21s for life. We need a video just for the nissan hardbody!! There so much diversity in them. From limos to rock crawlers to tilt beds to drift trucks to what ever you can imagine.
+1 my first truck (V6 4x4 SE) and vehicle for $1000 (I bought a project SOHC S13 a month later for $1500 as a side car).
The 2000's were an amazing time with cheap but awesome car.

My first truck is a 73 dodge w200 I got in August, terrible gas mileage due to the 36 inch tires and the 6 inch lift but I love it. Gets a lot of attention when in public.
Just remember, Ford SVT had planned to make a performance SUV during the glorious Lightning years. Called the Thunder, it was a lowered Expedition with the same supercharged engine and set up as the Lightning with all the comforts of a full size SUV.. but sadly Ford said no.
I will never forgive Ford for not giving it the green light.
As well as axing the 3rd generation lightning and the lightningbolt concept - which was a stepside 2002 ranger with a full drivetrain / suspension swap from a 2002 Lightning. You can read more about 3 these concepts on blue oval trucks site. I still resent ford for killing off the 3rd gen. I'd give anything to own one.

Hey James. Just wanted to share something. I'm currently driving a 1988 Ford Ranger XLT. It's a humble truck, but it's got a lot of meaning to me. It used to belong to my Grandpa, who drove it to work at the paper mill for years. He, my Dad, and I used to ride around Mount Vernon, WA when I was very small. When he died a few years ago, the Ranger was passed on to my Dad. He used to pick me up from my apartment and we'd drive around town in the Summer. When my Dad passed last year, the truck sat at my Mom's for a few months, not being driven due to an issue with the transmission gear lever. One day I finally made myself jerry-rig and then take it around the block to run the engine and put some new gas in it. It somehow felt like I was back with my Grandpa and my Dad again. I've been driving it ever since. I'm currently (albeit slowly) working on getting it back to its original glory, and when it's finished I want to put it in a music video on my channel. In the 32 years it's been in my family, the only thing that ever stopped it from running was needing new spark plugs. I highly recommend one of these. I don't think I could ever sell this one though. Thanks for the nostalgia trip, James. Hope everyone is well and safe. We'll all get through this no matter how crazy it feels. ❤️

Don’t sell it man, that truck clearly means a lot to you. Glad you have something in your possession that reminds you of good times. I’m in the same situation with my fathers ford ranger. Very humble truck and so many memories of when i was growing up sitting in that passenger seat. I could never sell it , it will eventually be passed down to my kids if they want to keep it.

I have a 2nd gen 2001 ram shortwide, and my best friend has an XJ 4x4 🤣 we legit changed his waterpump, thermostat, and radiator and hoses in an afternoon in his front yard and literally used like 4 tools. Great to see we chose them for a reason 😂

My first vehicle was an 02 ranger I bought from my grandpa, he sold it to me for a thousand bucks and dammit it’s still my favorite vehicle I’ve owned. RWD, crank windows, 5 speed, 4.0, just an honest happy driving little truck. I don’t daily it anymore but I can’t let it go, at only 25 bucks a month for insurance it’s nice to keep around. Hard to let go of your first car

Damn, here in Texas we def call CERTAIN SUVs trucks. Example: Rav4 or 4Runner? Not a truck. A Sequoia? That's a Tundra with a topper on it. Excursions and certain Expeditions also fit in this category.

My 1998 jeep cherokee sport with the inline 6 4L has almost 200k miles on it and the only thing I've had to replace so far is the muffler I love my jeep

Just condemned one today. Needs timing chains and phasers, has a bottom end knock, and a broken exhaust stud at only 127,000 miles. I'm glad the customer declined the work. I like money, but I hate to see people waste it.

@@noir-kx8ku Ford, Ford did when they made them 8mm studs holding cast iron to aluminum, and expected the manifold to hold up the exhaust with basically no extra brackets.
My 2002 Ford Expedition with the 5.4 just reached the end of its life with 300,ish miles on it no major issue we’ve had since brand new and that was on original engine and transmission with out rebuilding them. You need to take care of them and do all the preventative maintenance and they do great. Very please with my 5.4 also used it to haul trailers across country multiple times.
manage a fleet of construction trucks mainly of fords and gmcs. Average age of our 5.4 super duty trucks is 17 years and the average mileage of 220,000 miles. People who talk crap about fords are butthurt chevy and Toyota owners. I honestly don't know why, GM makes good trucks too they just leak everywhere. Toyotas have cheap C-frames and are truly meant to be suburban garage queens.

Pops had a red first gen Ranger GT when I was in high school. Don’t remember how/why but I got to drive it for a while. Little bastard was quick. Geared just right and you could boil tires off that thing in first thru third. Loved it. Bent the shit outta that super long shift lever from bangin 2nd gear all the time. Had to Bend it back before pops started driving it again to remain amongst the living and it was not easy.
