I'd say the SVT Lightning ultimately won as it ended up being the most successful, but the GMC Syclone was probably the best because of how fast it was relative to what was available at the time.

I can agree with that.
The SVT was hot garbage. The original SVT was made to beat the original 454ss with the 3-speed, and when the 4-speed 405ft/lbs 454SS hit the streets, it demolished the SVT. Ford then waited 5 years to come out with the SC SVT, and by that time muscle trucks were dead, and it STILL couldn't match the 1/4 mile of the Syclone 10 years later. The SVT sold terribly because it had a 5k towing capacity and a TINY bed. Meanwhile, GM knew what people really wanted and came out with the Silverado 6.0 SS. Sporty truck, with AWD, and 345hp, but in a package that could still act as a truck and towing 7800 lbs and has a full-size bed. Then, in 2008 GM did it again with the 403hp 6.2L GMC Sierra that was unmatched for years and would walk a SC SVT every day while towing 10k lbs.

I had a dakota R/T for a few years in my early 20s. That thing was an absolute monster. If it hadn't been for the transmission needing to be rebuilt twice, I would have kept it. It was a blast to drive.

Good stuff Nolan and company. I'm 52. Remember all these trucks. For the money back in the 90s, a great deal, was the 90-94? Dodge Dakota shortbox 2 wheel drives with a 318. A little tweaking and it would smoke the unwary. Wanna drift? Happened daily. Fun!

I had a regular 91 S10 with the 4.3L vortec and it was a blast to drive. No weight in the back and an insane amount of torque made slides and burnouts easy. If you could get the grip it was quick as hell from a stop but struggled to reach 70 mph. When you revved the engine the whole body would rock slightly. I couldn't even imagine what that truck would have been like turbo charged.

I’ve enjoyed Donut for years, but I’ve never watched this video. It’s probably good that I didn’t see this one when it first came out. It’s full of errors and is pretty silly. You guys have come a long way from these early videos, though, and for that I’m thankful. Love y’all, and keep up the good work!
I actually am going to start a car channel myself in a few months (maybe Jan of 2021 actually as to just add something else I'm passionate about to my production company's portfolio) and what I have been thinking about doing these past few weeks to get it started since watching some of the C8 videos is this: Take a 2020 Chevy WT Shortbed, get it as cheap as can be and swap the C8 engine in it. As far as the transmission, I am still watching the field to see what R&D finds out about the engine and the types of transmissions you need to handle over 800ftlbs of Torque

Dam , he just blew right by the 96 Dodge Pace Truck that become the 97 & 98 Dodge SS/T??? Witch was the SRT's older brother that had Carl Shelby's magic touch on the parts Dodge would let him tweak on ! I've got one and I had the factory 1500 and both had the 5.9 in them. BUT THEY ARE NOT THE SAME TRUCK! The SS/T had a factory shift kit in it and it handeld like like a dream! And the 5.9 Tune Port High Output 5.9 is a BEAST when it comes to top end! I Love running up on stock Vets and fly by them and watch them try to catch up to me! GOOD TIMES, I need to get it back out it hasn't been on the road since 2011? My house burnt and it was parked next to it and popped some of the glass melted some of the rubber on it? So I went and bought me a 2005 Dodge Daytona and haven't got around to fixing it?

One of my favorite cars in my collection is my 89 shelby dakota with 12k original miles. I bought it when I was stuck in Nashville for a week because of a snow storm. I had an empty trailer and craigslist, and what would you know, another shelby to add to the collection! I like parking it next to my 14 shelby baja 700 raptor, they are both trucks, but on totally different ends of the spectrum.

The 1964 and 1965 Dodge Custom Sport Special was a cool truck that had the 426 Wedge motor and the bucket seat and centre console from the Polar. IIRC
You know what? My friends were saying one important thing over the years: Monster and muscle trucks were always becoming cult classics. In fact they're still driven on the road. Plus, seen on dozens of both features and television shows including the long-running Emmy nominated "A-Team" (1983-1987) for Universal Television and Cannell Entertainment.

Thank you for making that correction. My spelling is horrible but spelling the GMC truck with a "C" is almost sacrilegious. I had Syclone #1618. We named one of my son's soccer teams the Syclones. I loved educating those ignorant people that accused me of miss spelling.

Nolan, as a mopar boy you should know the slant6 was much older than emissions regs. It was the base engine they could sell to elderly people as a reliable runabout, you didn’t get into performance until you hit 318 ci and a 4 barrel carb which was 2 steps up. Real power hit at 340, with a 6 pack which I believe was 1969/1970, and then you got the big blocks/HEMI in select A-bodies, B-bodies, and most C-Bodies throughout from 1964 (technically 63.5 suck it ford) to 1971 (HEMI DED) and 78 (440 DED)

The Syclones ran closer to a high 4 second 0-60.
It was the Typhoons that ran low 5's 0 to 60.
This is true, I used to own a syclone and a buddy of mine owned a typhoon. The syclone always won by a car length or more stoplight to stoplight.
I have always wanted a cyclone or typhoon, I had an 86 s10 with a small block and a replica cyclone front clip on it...that is as close as I have got to a cyclone.lol
Syclones were actually tested at 4.6 seconds at 0-60. And when put on a dyno, several were well over 300hp. The article I read also said that one was 330hp.
@@guardrail2897 I have seen a factory cyclone keep up with or beat some pretty high horsepower cars stop light to stoplight, unfortunately they don't do much up over 80mph without quite a bit of modification.

NICE you showed bandimere speedway!!!!!! I live about 10 minutes from there and have been going there my whole life! Unfortunately it's going to become a memory in everybody's mind due to the fact that they are building houses literally everywhere around the track. You might ask why that matters and it's because the fun hating yuppies that already live by it have petitioned multiple times to have it closed down due to noise as if they didn't already expect that when they moved in next to a nhra drag strip and with as many homes that are being built it's only a matter of time before they force the bandimere family to sell it off or risk not getting any money for the land and still having to close the track its a really sad situation if that happens which I feel like it's only a matter of time

Somebody has probably said it already, but the "little triangle thing" on the shelby dakota was considered a light rack (even has factory holes for two lights)
First gen Dakotas with the factory 318 V8 were great sleepers. I had a standard cab, short bed 4x4 with 4.10 gears in it. It surprised a lot of 4.6l Mustangs in the 90s

I just bought one lol. It has 3.20s though. Plan to upgrade to 3.55s soon. It keeps up with my dads 05 300c pretty good.

@@mottorcyle5052 no fullsize extended cab truck is 4000lbs curb. The Ford Lightning (single cab stepside) with some minor weight reduction is 4300lbs. My truck with minor weight distribution was 5000lbs on the nose. 2800 on the front tires, 2200 on the rear. After some weight reduction (hitch, bumper, etc) I'm down around 4700-4800.

I was saying the same thing when I saw that. And there torque rating is a little off. 340 ft lbs compared to there 240.

I bought myself a new SRT 10 for a second college graduation present. I loved the truck a couple years then sold it. At the time I was foolishly thinking I'd always be able to buy another new one anytime.... I've really been missing it since Cletus showed off his first giveaway truck the other day.

i guess this is true for US cars pre 21st century. Beyond that, US cars can handle relatively well, to outright brilliant (like the C5 Z06).
I drove a 89 chevy SS that was heavily modified once and it was the loudest thing in the universe. It was absolutely insane.

I had a 74 chevy C10 that the previous owner (a mechanic) put a 454 in. It had Edelbrock intake, 4-barrel carb, headers, etc. Had many things happen with that truck, one of them being the exhaust pipes rusting off(or maybe they broke -- I used to jump hills. Don't advise, lucky I didn't kill anyone). You would not believe the noise of open headers. I'd have to yell to any passengers even driving slowly up a hill. Basically sounded like a quarter mile dragster. I was very happy to have some 2.5" exhaust and turbo mufflers installed.

@@floof4444 you don't it's got good numbers but at my job we have some transit Van's with the twin turbo EcoBoost v6 but the turbos are tiny as hell even my sentra nismo has a bigger one, but also they're constantly blowing out from driver use they're actually pretty unreliable even those stupid v6 diesel sprinters last longer
