On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of Chicago IL on 9-27-20.
We're looking at a 1963 Ford Falcon Futura Convertible in Rangoon Red Paint. The car comes with the factory 170 CI inline 6 cylinder engine.
The car's Owner is Dennis Roxworthy. Dennis’s had this car since 2013. He shares that he saw this car at a local car show, brought it, brought it to a restoration shop, and after being judged, the car received 100 out of 100 points, a perfect score. This one is “showroom” new.
    ENJOY!

My older brother's first car was a 62 Falcon with 3 on the tree. I barely remember it, as he was already of driving age, and I was just barely out of diapers. I've ridden in a 1964 Falcon sedan with Fordomatic, and I've ridden with friends many times in a white 62 2 door with 3 on the tree. I like this Falcon Futura profiled on this video. A lot of tlc went into the restore.

I so agree with Dennis's opinion that the '63 was the best Falcon. Ford designers hit the nail on the head with that model. It's a very hard choice, but, by a VERY slim margin, I would go for Dennis's blue Sprint hardtop. That body with the fastback top is just perfection. Also, the straight six is very deceiving engine. If you drive an old car with one, you find that there is no sensation of it being under-powered. They may not rocket from a dead stop, but they're perfectly adequate. In-line engines are very well balanced.

The ‘63 was the best looking Falcon to me. When I was 11 years old, my dad bought a white, brand new, 65 Falcon. Even though it was the top-of-the-line Futura, it was very boxy and square. The ‘60-‘63 Falcons had a bit more curvature and flair and just looked more pleasing to me. Boy, I’d love to find a ‘63 Futura Sprint droptop with the 260 V8 and 4-speed. At 9:44, the brochure shows the under dash air conditioner. By 1963, most of the full-size, higher-end cars had the guts of the AC and the AC vents incorporated into the dashboard. In the smaller, cheaper cars, like the Falcon, many were still units which bolted into the bottom of the dashboard and were not much different than aftermarket units.
Also at 9:58, note how the backup lights were optional extra-cost equipment. If you didn’t order them specifically, your car had no backup lights!
I’m 70 years old and lovingly recall how you could “check the boxes” and order exactly the options you wanted while bypassing the ones you didn’t want. Nowadays, you have to order “packages” on most cars and often are stuck with a fancy option you don’t want just to get something you do want.

    Goodday Lou,
Another gorgeous, beautiful Ford from Dennis.
We had the same Falcon & Futura here in Australia.
    The XM & XP Falcon.
My first memory of a car was that of a family friends of ours back in 1973 with a XM Falcon Station Wagon with the wood panel on it.
Absolutely gorgeous. I was 3 & I still remember that wagon.
Just last month my friend Adam sold a XM utility. He was swamped with people wanting to buy it.
The XM & XP hatdtop was the only hardtop Ford had in Australia throughout the 60's until the XA Hardtop was realised in 1972.
Both XM & XP were not offered in a V8 in Australia but plenty of people dropped 302 Windsor motors under them.
    Beautiful all round.
    Stay warm, take care.
Your number 1 Fan in Australia
Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤

Beautiful car, superb restoration. Australian two doors are VERY rare, my first car was a white 64 Falcon station wagon, soon after a red four door, and my sister's second car was a blue 64 station wagon. They cruised like small limo's.
I truly love these models. This was very informative and a great look at a true classic.

Speaking of Trunk n Treats. Yes, Dennis is correct that after you bought your new car in the sixties Ford sent you a brochure and an attached order form that showed pictures of the models that you could order. The models were free. This was an offer made only to customers that bought a new car. The choice included the pre assembled model of every model line Ford made, but also it included a model kit of a previous Era. In 1960 both my Dad and Uncle bought Falcons. That year the offer included a kit of a Model T. We opted for that kit while my my uncle got the Pre assembled Falcon. In 1963 my dad bought a Galaxie. That year the offer included a 1932 Model A Victoria. We again opted for the kit. I don't know how many years Ford made this offer and if it included a similar offer for New Mercury buyers, but we didn't receive one in 66 or 69 when Dad bought Mercury's.

Thanks for posting this video. I have a '63 Futura convertible with the 170 Special. Other than wheels and tires, I strive to have it look as stock as possible. What I appreciate about your video and your other video on the 63' 260 hardtop Futura is the reference material I can gather to help my Falcon look better and look more like it did when it shipped from the factory in 1963. For example, I noticed the tops of the shock towers are painted the gun metal gray vice the semi gloss black as is the rest of the engine compartment. I also notice the fuel filter canister is just zinc plated and has red lettering on it marking it as the fuel filter but it isn't painted white like the other fuel canisters I've seen....another great tip! I also see the service at six thousand miles sticker on the inner driver side fender well.....From what I've read this was used on later Falcons and not the '63.....again, another great learning point. the fender bolts look to be zinc plated and not the unpainted, but still black finish as I've used on my car.....again another great learning point. lastly, the valve cover with the embossed Ford on it......I have one but I was told it was not used on the Falcon 170 engine.......i may just have to install it on my car now. thanks again for posting these....i will be watching them again to pick up even more little details.

Dennis has some amazing cars, he has been blessed by the gods of transportation. Wondering if this has hydronic windshield wipers? A buddy back in high school had a 63 Futura. It had hydronic wipers, not electric. If he had the wipers on it was really neat, step on the gas and the wipers quit working, didn’t matter where on the windshield , they’d quit and freeze. Soon as he let off the gas they would start back up. I remember him always getting a kick out of it. Cheers🍻🇨🇦🥂🇺🇸👍

Compact Fairlane? Same old Glen Plaid trunk liner that came with every Ford. wheels look freakishly small compared to modern sizes.
