Dad had a 300D and since was the last of the Hemi engines he kept it because the E was too convential. He loved the ram induction and traded it in on a black 300F with a tan interior. I was 16 when he had the D and 18 with the F. What a great car. He actually let me drrive it. He loved "shutting down" teen agers with their Chevy's! Thanks for the memories.

I too was fortunate that my dad purchased a 59 300 E new as a holdover in 1960 just before my 13 th birthday and I drove it in my State licensing test at 15. Although it was initially a light tan metallic, following a minor shunt in 1962, we had it repainted in Terra Cotta.

The ultimate 1960 Chrysler! My Dad had a 1960 Windsor 2-door coupe, white with a red leather and fabric interior, fake spare wheel cover, with swivel seats and a leather fold-down armrest up front and a vast rear window, I could lay down on the parcel shelf and gaze up at the stars! Though it had the base 383 cube engine, it was a high-speed cruiser. On a fast road, my Mom looked over and saw Dad was doing 115 mph! So he let her take the wheel. A few minutes later, he looked over, Mom was doing 105 mph! Great memories!

Hi, Lou! If Frank set a goal of finding a 300F, it was a pretty ambitious search. The exact production numbers for the 300F were 964 hardtops and 248 convertibles, for a total of 1,212, and who knows how many in Terra Cotta with AC. And as Frank said, they did come for a pretty penny, $5,411 for the hardtop, $5,841 for the ragtop. I would hardly say the earlier 300s weren't special, but I would agree the F does stand out with the Astrodome, the doughnut on the trunk, the four bucket seats, all those badges, and of course those fins and taillights!

But little do people know that they were the PIONEER, for the muscle cars at the time! before the max wedge cars, before 409's and GTO's, before the FE Fords! As a designer myself, there's an exuberance to the late 50's and early 60's American cars that clearly shows in the confidence designers were willing to explore. They're ostentatious, but the reverence of future, technology and progress is so evident, one can't help but join the enthusiasm of the day. I never wanted one of these cars, but somehow I do. Funny how the power of design can influence opinions over time.

Designed by Virgil M. Exner Sr. himself, with a Ghia-inspired interior, although built in Detroit, and not Ghia. It was a natural outgrowth of Exner's association with his friend and business associate Luigi Segre at Ghia in Turin (Torino) Italy. They collaborated on a lot of Chrysler special projects dream concept cars from 1952 to 1962, and the Dual Ghia cars.

Just a beautiful car! Yes, the "Bankers Hot Rod." Those are some serious fins, a good design starting in the middle of the door. The taillights fit perfectly into the shape of the fin and Chrysler didn't mess them up by trying to fit the backup lights into the taillight design. The front end with the grill is great. Today spark plugs last over 100k miles, in those days they had to be changed quite frequently and those plugs were not an easily accessible.

I'm looking at this again. This has to be your best coverage of "trunk and treats". You covered key portions of each item without overdoing it. Because the brochure only covered the 300F we didn't have to see unrelated models. I'm not a fan of big fins on 60's cars but the boomerang tail lights, found on the 1960 F, are the most attractive of these later letter series cars.
The front and rear bucket seats and the full length console are really cool. The engine and dual carb set up is impressive. I like the color but the faux spare tire on the trunk lid detracts from the beauty of the car lines.
