@@pipboy4572 pretty sure the medusa was not 100% explained but i assume the medusa is indeed a sort of robot or some machinery with its own thought, that’s how i interpreted it. So it wasn’t confirmed to be a nano machine i think but it’s not like it was confirmed to not be a nano machine

Yup
I think it's safe to say since the manga ended, MatPat's theory on this is technically right
To a degree, yes. Those who haven't read the manga's ending yet, *SPOILER WARNING*
MatPat mentioned here that it's an AI that was responsible for the stonification of humanity in Dr. Stone. Throughout the story, it shows the source of the 'green light' we call the Medusa. It somewhat resembles a ring, but it has an irregular shape. Shortly after its introduction, it was shown that a number of those had fallen onto an island from the sky, all lit green turning every island inhabitant into stone, and the source of that transmission was from the moon, of all places. Later on, upon reaching the moon, they find the one place "Why Man" was hiding. But it was in fact a whole colony of Medusas, that were discovered to actually be a techno-organic parasite species. While they behave in perfect sync with each other, they're not really connected to a hive mind because they decide on things for themselves.
To sum it up, yes. Mat was right to an extent that some extraterrestrial entity was responsible for humanity's downfall.

The name is brilliant cuz Einstein in german actually means "a stone" so the name Dr. Stone is not only referring to the stone pandemic. But also refers to how it's about science!
Lolis. Absolute Lolis.
They actually mention the reason they call it Dr. Stone, its because it has healing properties.
Yeah or it’s just a cool name..... I don’t know maybe just maybe
Nah there’s a different reason why they call it that I forgot but I know It had to do something with soap
@@hassankromah9747 they call soap their own "doctor stone" meaning it was their closest thing to a doctor in a stone world due to it's germ erasing properties, but in the manga they later call the antibiotic their Doctor Stone and then even later in the manga they call the petrification beam as their Doctor Stone since it has such amazing healing properties
Okay, so now that the petrification mystery is fully explained, I will give a summary:
The source of the radio waves that say why is an species of mechanical life, the Medusa, the trefoil knot shaped petrification device thing (it's always thought that the medusa is a weapon of someone, but in actuality they're sentient beings themselves). They're sentient robots with no known creator, travelling the universe in search of a civilization smart enough to recreate them. Their goal is to be immortal, which they believe all sentient beings should strive for (thus the question "do you want to die?", they were confused as to why we'd resist the joys of petrification).
The Medusas are in search of a race that can fix and recreate them. They hope a symbiotic relationship with this race where neither race die. The petrification will undo faster with greater brain activity, implication of intelligence, and the Medusas didn't expect it'd take humanity millennia to depetrify, which deems them insufficient for the relationship the Medusas seek.
As they are mechanical, oxygen is poisonous to them, they rust in Earth (thus the pyramid of medusas in South America), and loses their sentience, and ability to float. As it is voice-activated, Kingdom of Science placed the Medusa in a vacuum to prevent them from being accessed and it regained its sentience and ability to float.
In the moon, Senku concludes them that it's near impossible for humanity to fix them, much less recreate them in the near future, but convinces them that the possibility is not zero, and asks them if they're still up. They logically refused but the medusa they fixed was convinced.
Per the last chapter of the manga, they are working on a time machine based on the tech of medusas. The end.
They don't actually want to halt humanity progression. They're just confused as to why we won't succumb to a state where we never die, and they just wish to spread the gifts of petrification.
if you read the last chapter then you will realize that the secret thing that senku was talking to them about on the moon could be the time machine. in the final chapter the one medusa with senku says something like "returning to the past will avert numerous deaths of my kind". what could have happened on the moon is that when senku said he wanted to make "A creation outta this world" (the time machine) they werent convinced that it would be possible because of the near zero probability of success except for the one medusa that agreed to come with senku.
. . . well, its 2022. . . If you are reading Dr.Stone. . . you know why you are back here.

Anyone coming back to this after the Why-man episode came out?
He,s actually really close they are infact machines well more like mechanical sentient parisites they value survival over everything so they preserve other sentient species keeping them alive in stone
This is one of my top 10 best anime intros
Edit: just kidding, they're all JoJo's
waiting for the anime only for it to be messed up by the studio doing it

Did you lay this egg?
MATPAT!!!! You were right!! The Whyman behind the petrification was a robot and it was nano machines that the petrifying light is made out of, you were 10 billion percent correct!!!! We see this in the latest chapter!!!
The Petrification beam itself isn’t nano bots.
Just here to say HE CALLED IT
Dr stone is just jojo battle tendency from the perspective of the pillarmen
Mitch Stacey GERMAN SCIENCE
That explains why I enjoy it so much, we need more part 2
AYAYAYAYAAA
*Awaken theme intensifies*
Holy crap
Pretty much but it was Kars who shot the bean at the last second of his lifelessness
New viewer: "So what caused the events of Dr. Stone to happen?"
MatPat: "Nanomachines, son!"
They harden in response to physical trauma...
And being greenlit too.
I was totally thinking along the same lines, but I thought the Whyman was just a crazed human using the bots to make himself up to look like a god or something.
When he introduced this problem I thought "yo, nanobots"
Dang, beat to it
Beat me to it.
Nanomachines, son. They harden in response to physical trauma
Dr.Stone is what made me REALLY REALLY love Science. It taught me more than my school ngl. But the manga ending was really unsatisfactory. What, the Medusa can manipulate time? What, Byakuya Ishigami is still alive? What, the Medusa somehow revived him in the future?
MatPat needs to do a part two on this. The Manga has gone to explain a lot of things, even proving that someone who is dead, can be revived by being petrified, and then unpetrified again.
The immortality part sure is creepy
do they remember the afterlife/does it exist in the Dr. Stone universe
@@xwxwvyz1 The manga is finished. And without spoiling, as far as I can tell, they never mentioned it.
@@krfan5459 ok
Huge spoiler dude
Senku: I'm going to find out how everyone turned into stone.
Matpat: *Hold my diet coke*
Pancakemix *hold my diet coke
@@erikmaster3 *hold my theory
@@erikmaster3 fuq is it ok if I change mine to that instead
Edit: I'm using it anyway
*hold my stone
After reading the whole manga I can say he did an imacular job on this theory. He deserves a golden medal for this one.
Nanomachines, son, they harden in response to physical trauma! You can't hurt me jack.
I'm ten billion percent crunchyroll sponsored him to mislead us
I don't agree even a millimeter percent dude
I’m ten billion percent sure that you don’t even make me agree a millimeter
Crunchyroll produces the anime, they don't make it

You sir get a billion points

My friend spoiled me that the petrification was by an AI roughly 1 or 2 years ago. Well done, Matpat.
I personally think an extraterrestrial civilization regressing potential enemies back to the stone age would turn out to be a solution to the Fermi paradox. A space faring civilization that only wants life to thrive but not spawn civilizations that could one day destroy them would resort to this using an AI to perform the process in cycles. Life on those worlds is preserved without resorting to mass bloodshed and potential enemies are prevented from climbing the ladder too high. They wouldn't communicate with us and only listen in to search for any civilizations they feel they need to regress.
