It really seems like Brian has an overarching obsession with validation and image issues with wanting to be perceived as a deep, thoughtful person to the people he tries to date, befriend, his peers and even himself. Beyond that he's not any more douchey than any other character otherwise (and he probably hasn't done nearly as many horrible things as other main characters in the show like Peter or Quagmire have). If you look at his relationship with Stewie, he bounces back and forth between trying to seem smart around Stewie for validation (which is usually a waste since Stewie is himself intelligent and more worldly on most topics and grills Brian on this whenever it happens) and having his facade break apart in moments of catharsis (usually when he's upset about his failures, weaknesses, his self-destructive behaviour and the misfortunes he suffers in his life to Stewie) You can also see this image issue absent in Brians relationship to Peter, he seldom if ever tries to act intelligent and douchey around Peter in comparison to most other characters, Peters an idiot and he's irrational and Brian knows he is smarter than him so there's no meaningful validation Brian can seek from that... You can contrast this to the episode where Peter goes on a Business trip and becomes smart and worldy, as soon as that happens Brian tries to be boastful about his reading when Peter replaces their tv with a bookshelf (again caught out for it by peter himself this time).

At first I thought Quagmire didn’t want Brian dating Ida because he still sees her as his father, and having your father be gay was weird to him. I don’t think it’s bad (innately) to have a character be homophobic, but I did think it was a bit predictable. But that ending where Quagmire said that he loves his mom and that Ida deserves better than Brian and that’s why he’s so mad, that was really sweet, and didn’t take away from the comedy of the scene or Quagmire’s character. If anything it built on it. I see a lot of people say that they miss old Family Guy because it had heart, and I always have a rather lukewarm rebuttal that the heart of old Family Guy made scenes less funny and took away from the overall scene. But this is good, I like this.
Technically it's likely mainly on Brian because Quagmire has reasons to hate him, it led to Brian becoming unlikable character since both Quagmire and Brian don't like each other, I'm expecting to see both of them fight almost like chicken fight in the future episodes

" instead of where Waldo, Maybe you should have cared How's Waldo ?" 🤣🤣🤣
For real Ida is the nicest person on this show ever.
"Do you believe it still fits"
And Glenn never put the pieces together
“I already have a dad and he’s my mom”
Damn, that is a strange situation.
Quagmire might have to call Brian father, but Ida calls him daddy!
"Let's run moons over my-hammy on three..." omg too funny!
Quagmire use to the be the coolest of the cool from season 1-7
Shane Fraley we can agree from season 8 till now quagmire is a dick
He has become so unlikable ever since they had him and Brian became enemies.
I Definitely Miss The Old Quagmire
Technically it's likely mainly on Brian because Quagmire has reasons to hate him, it led to Brian becoming unlikable character since both Quagmire and Brian don't like each other, I'm expecting to see both of them fight almost like chicken fight in the future episodes
@@chimpo961 Brian didn’t do nothing to Quagmire
"this that were gross five years ago are now heroic"
“Things that were gross 5 years ago are now heroic” had me dying
still gross and unnatural
I love fucking my transwoman friend, not gross at all.
Quagmire is me explaining my favorite movies in college essays.
the peter sad from the game gets me everytime. 😂😂
I didn't hate Brian until eggs ala Brian. Now I understand you, Quagmire
I like how Meg is just sitting on the floor while everyone else is on the couch when Brian comes in with Ida 🤣
Why is that funny
@@paulienuti8031 pretty self explanatory but humor is subjective I suppose.
Things that were gross five years ago are now heroic.
So cannibalism is heroic since it was gross 5 yrs ago
@@km5214 he didn't say "all things that were gross five years ago"
The way he says “6 points bitches” at 6:59 😄
Brian actually somehow always ends up having the most complicated relationships ever
8:35. I love sidebar shit like that 🤣🤣🤣
I love how quagmire still calls his mom "dad".
Talking about Peter at work, but sitting right there eating @2:38
Dan: It still fits
Lois: From when?!
1:20 so that's where we got the how's the imposter meme
