There was this guy who NPC’d at my last event. He played a personable, misunderstood guard, a possessed traitor and a full on Harpie all in one game. All completely different from the rest and incredibly fun to interact with. He was a natural. Then we found out after time out - this was his first time at a LARP. Obviously he’s now caught the bug and wants to go to every event he can manage, but it showed me that NPCing doesn’t restrain your fun or even your freedom to character create. He had a blast and so did we. Makes me want to do it more, especially since I’m a student now aha 😅
NPCing is the best way in! Both as a Player and GM, its ALWAYS great to have new faces show up. I've also referred to NPCs as "Necessary Player Characters".
I just recently NPCed at Twin Mask and I 100% support doing that for your first time LARPing. It actually helps introduce you to the game's world (and mechanics), helps give you an idea of what kind of character you want to play, and helps you determine if you are going to be more into combat or RP. Super super helpful :)
First coming into LARP I didn't know the rules of the game I was at or what character I wanted to create. Because of these reasons I did NPC. I loved it so much that I did it for 4 more games and LOVED it. Some of my BEST stories are from NPC! Definitely advise to do NPC if unsure about what to do or starting out or want to play a bunch of different roles and action. ☺❤
PrettyMuchParker Thanks for the advice! I am thinking about doing LARP for the first time and may just been convinced. Now... to convince my parents to let me attend *rubs "beard" thoughtfully*
Oh no. The one time I've tried being an NPC I was security for a trade caravan and I was not only being security, I also had to help push the wagon along. Not fun, at all.
I went LARPing for the first time earlier this month. I was crewing and it was so fun! We end up just annoying all the players by making them fight in our horrible weather. XP

how do I NPC? Like how do I sign up for it or make the connection to an event in order to do so?
I’m so scared that I’ll do it wrong and ruin the story for others. :-S My local LARPs charge the same fee for NPCing as playing.

I have the same problem. When I google it I can only find like 2 events that need NPCs and they are way too far away for me to be able to go
So where can I larp around NY NJ? Especially since I have never done it before. I want to but am not sure how. Thanks
You can try searching up larp events near you on google.
If there’s ever an event that’s overpriced but you seriously want to join, be an npc.
