you guys have to check out the podcast "cults to consciousness" !! it's run by an ex-mormon who interviews apostates who left cults with a specific focus on fundamentalist mormons. she's interviewed a member of the lebaron family, if i remember correctly. either way, she is absolutely wonderful and deserves more recognition for her work.

I’m an ex-Mormon and did a lot of studying of the history of the church before I left, and I continue to learn things. Josh, you may find these things interesting.
The thing to remember is that these offshoots are rooted in early teachings and doctrine. Do mainstream Mormons practice polygamy today? No, but they do believe in eternal polygamy. In other words, men can be sealed to another woman if his wife passes and they believe the men will have several wives in the afterlife. Women cannot be sealed to more than one man.
Also, the early church did practice polyandry, where Joseph Smith was sealed to women who were already married. And even after the church issued the first manifesto to no longer practice polygamy because of the law, they still practiced it in secret for a few years.
Regarding blood atonement, up until 1990, the temple ceremony still included taking blood oaths if you revealed certain parts of the ceremony outside of the temple.
It’s pretty wild stuff.
Thanks Just became LDS last year n still learning things don't know anyone that practices anyone who practices pologagmy. I never learned history of Methodist or Southern Baptist Church which is what I was raised in, but LDS gets such a bad rap I'm making myself learn their history. Actually I feel like the church has helped me with a lot of my self esteem issues a great deal. It may not be right for everyone but it's right for me❤

Every polygamous relationship I've ever heard of has been sad or messy in one way or another. In theroy it could work and be fine, but personally, I've never seen it work out in a happy healthy way for all parties and CHILDREN involved...
There is a reason throughout history there are no 'strong, polygamous kingdoms'. There are no empires where polygamy ended well, so why idiot humans think it will work in their personal life is beyond me.
i have a close friend who's in a polyamorous/polygamous marriage/relationship and it's genuinely healthy. i think the horrific issues arise when you bring extreme religious beliefs into it, especially sexist ideologies and/or beliefs that objectify any member of the relationship. when all parties involved are in love with and deep respect for each other, that is healthy. if you see yourself as "owning" the person/s you are romantically involved with, that's where it becomes messy.
@@mijiah Polyamory and polygamy is not the same thing...polygamy is inherently sexist and refers to men having multiple wife's, polyamory is men and women or whatever genders in equal partnerships together.
There is a BIG difference between polygamy and polyamory. Polygamy can never work because of the patriarchy. But Polyamory can work because it's not just the guys who can have multiple partners and there...if done right.. isn't any control

I’m an exmormon. My belief in polygamy (having been polygamy adjacent) I’m all for legalizing polygamy and multiple marriages but I’m only ok with it if it’s consensual and they don’t have the threat of not making it to heaven without being polygamist. A lot of these Mormon polygamous offshoots use the fact that polygamy is illegal to help create that fear of the outside world which can make it harder for them to escape from the harm. Make it legal and they don’t have to fear that aspect of it which takes away one aspect of fear control.
Joseph Smith practiced polygamy, bigamy, and had underage wives. They're just following his twisted playbook

My guess to that would be that they’re trying to keep what they are doing hush hush as possible because it is illegal, therefore they keep their pool of people small to lower the chances of local government getting involved

My parents were raised in polygamy and when they got married, their prophet made it clear to not marry someone they were related to. However, the prophet of the group now preaches that nobody should marry outside of the group, therefore they have now ended up marrying 2nd and even first cousins. My parents got out of it, but I know lots of kids who have been born with major birth defects, which they question every single time 🤦♀️

I saw an interview with Anna & Celia on another yt channel & they seemed like absolutely amazing women.
They fully denounce their father & the crimes that he and their siblings committed. They have followed different paths on their way out of the cult, but they made it and they're thriving now and I truly hope they are so incredibly proud of themselves. They've climbed out of such dark depths of evil created by their own "father" but thankfully they made it out and helped their siblings along the way! ❤️❤️💪🏻
While I'm all for people doing whatever so long as it's consensual and age appropriate.. I just find it so hard to believe that 1 person can love or be in a relationship equally with two people. Like every time I see a poly relationship there always someone treated lesser, not as favored, etc.

I think poly relationship is usually form between people with issues of codependency /people pleasing/narcissism etc these conditions can feed of of each other . Healthy, self aware people will not agree to polygamy.
Poly is usually a term used by those who are polyamorous, which is based on individual sovereignty and consent. It is not the same as polygamy.
Although, like any relationship dynamic toxic people can be part of the community. Just wanted to let you know.

One of the reasons there are multiple wives in polygamy is to create large families. A polygamous marriage with multiple husbands and one wife will still only produce the same number of children as a marriage with one husband and wife.

I had the “Children’s Picture Bible” when I was about 8 years old (in my 40’s now) and it was a full comic book of the Bible. I loved it! I was actually speaking to a colleague last week about how I wish I still had it, now that I’m older and the events/stories make more sense now and I can understand the “morals”’of them. I learned about the Kingston Clan, aka “The Order” from the show “Escaping Polygamy” a few years ago. I stumbled upon the show when I was researching stuff about the FLDS, and cults in general. TBH, there is something about the Kingston’s that goes beyond the other polygamist/mormon cults. They are the absolute most terrifying group that I have come across while researching. I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this particular cult.

I was having a bad day and feeling like a failure when she said ' you know, when marriage was created, many people didn't even live long enough to make it to 16 yrs. It wasn't meant to last 50 yrs'.
