In November 1991, Marvin Heemeyer took a vacation to Grand Lake, Colorado, fell in love, and decided to make it his home. Less than a year later, in April of 1992, he found himself the owner of a muffler shop he never intended to buy. Six months later, he tried to be a good citizen and connect the property to the town sewer system. What followed was a decade of delays, miscommunications and lies which ate away at Marv's business and his hope. In July of 2002, Marv stumbled across an auction ad for a Komatsu D355A bulldozer. Around this time, Marv began to perceive that he - and his bulldozer - were to be the instruments of God's retribution against the corrupt. Two years later, on June 4, 2004, after welding himself inside his heavily modified Komatsu, Marv Heemeyer, a reasonable man, was compelled to do unreasonable things. Hey Aiden! I just wanted to know, uhh, the company that makes the coffee doesn't usually ship outside the US, right? Because I wanted to buy the Coffee Pack to try it but the shipping was like twice the cost of the Bag or something crazy like that. Just wanted to let you know if you weren't aware that's all. In the end, it'll cost like at least 70-80$ and that's like a lot for what is basically 20ish espressos.

It’s always a Yes when asking if the government would do something horrible. But it’s not always a yes that the government actually has. Which I think is an important distinction to remember

Yeah except the US government has gotten the media to twist certain narratives to get the public to fight against each other. Things like gun control laws, abortion and LGBT narratives that are being so far blown out of proportion that it gets people to act on their emotion and fail to reason. Divide and conquer... oldest trick in the book.

I love how the US spends nearly a trillion dollars a year to fight corrupt governments overseas.
Unfortunately our Republic isn't setup properly for the Federal to get involved with State corruption without it almost always being government overreach in the courts (probably do to SCOTUS bias towards one party most of the time). That's what the alphabet agencies are supposed to keep in check but they were all gutted by the Trump administration with the exception of the FBI and CIA which I'm sure he would have cleaned out if he had the power too. When I was a teenager, there was a shop in town that sold card games, roleplaying games, etc. It also had arcade games, pool tables, and room for kids to just hang out and chat. The shop owner would do things like give hungry kids free food and give people free product if he found out it was their birthday. He was a shrewd businessman when it came to sales, but he was kind. This was in small town, central Wisconsin where this sort of gaming shop was not common. It was basically the only place in town where kids/teens could get together and socialize that didn't involve drinking, drug use, or otherwise getting into trouble.
Welp, the local government didn't like the shop owner because of some long-standing small-town grudges. So, they jacked up every fee they could on his property until he was forced to move into a smaller building down the street. This spot was nestled in a corner, away from the road. This meant people travelling from neighboring towns to visit the only game store in the area struggled to find the shop. So, he would put out sidewalk signs. The local government began fining him for the signs, saying that sidewalk signs were against city ordinances. Mind you, other businesses on either side of this shop regularly used the same type of sidewalk signage and were never once fined. Between all of this stress and the owner dealing with it while also being the primary caregiver for his dying mother, the local government drove him out of business. Unsurprisingly, within a year the area saw a massive uptick in teen drug/alcohol use. The way some small-town governments act is vile.

I live in a town of 800 residents. What you are describing about small town BS is 100% spot on. We had stuff like this go on for the first 35 years of my life. It still happens today, but nothing like it used to be. Most of the "Good OL boys have passed away. I had a run in with a rich farmer about 6 years after i bought my first house i had about an acre of ground but my house was supposedly on a city easement by
2 1/2 feet. This asshole farmer liked to buy property and build house on it.which i had no problem with until he bought a 3 foot wide strip of property from the city directly behind my house. He went to the city and and because of his money they told me i needed to move my house the 2 1/2 feet plus an additional 3 feet for easement well I couldn't because of that little strip of property that was directly behind my house which I believed to be mine in the first place but was told the surveyor screwed up. Now there's 4 brand new homes and the first one was built exactly where my house was he didn't have to move backthe 5 feet like i was told i would have to do. I was so furious i seriously could have went down this path back then. I paid cash at 19 years old for my place all the $ I had earned from mowing lawns buckin bales and and selling livestock in FFA was gone in the bink of the eye. I still get worked up over that. I've never recovered from that either and have never owned a home since. Just kills me inside to be treated so poorly over a rich asshole.
Ammo is cheap and a great alternative
Do you know what that 3 foor wide strip of land is called in real estate? It's called a "Ransom". A similar thing happened to a good friend of mine. He had a deal with the developer that he would retain 3 building lots of the massive parcel of land he sold (for a major discount because of the 3 lots).
Yadda yadda, they left him the 3 serviced lots sure, but they designed the area such that the developer owned an 8 foot strip preventing Bob from ever being to access the lots. They offered to sell it back to him for 1 million dollars. The town sided with the developer.
Bob never recovered.
Cheers to you sir.
"Which I had no problem with [until it affected me]." Yep, that tracks. As someone who was a Libertarian when I first learned about politics. This is how every story tends to end.
Town of 600 here with a similar tale of insane land greed. My family had approximately 500 acres going back over 150 years until sometime in the 1950's a family member got into a huge amount of gambling debt with the neighboring farmer and ended up having to give away all but 17 acres to settled the debt. Sucks but whatever. Well fast forward another 50 years and the son of the farmer that got most of our land all those years ago comes to us and says he wants another land survey. He thinks the property lines are off a few feet and that we owe him another half acre or so. Yes, the punk son who was literally just handed 500+ acres in an inheritance was willing to go to court to get another half acre on a deal from 50 years prior. Thankfully he was wrong on multiple fronts and the law was on our side but it just goes to show how evil some people are.
To take a mans property is to take a mans life. Communists won't understand that, because they are the ones who live to take, not to work, build up, and save.
All that said, I pray you can find peace and let go. This life is temporary, and justice will be had for everybody, good and bad. If we could see what God has in store for the devil's children, we'd feel sorry for them. I hope all the people who try to be good in this evil world can find a way to have peace.
It really should be illegal for a family to hold multiple government positions in such a close proximity.
The problem with making any elected position a conditional title restricted based on preexisting factors is that it will then be weaponized and broadened to entirely overthrow the concept of an election as we know it. First family members, then business partners, then anybody with mutual interests, or worse, "wrong" interests. It should be incumbent upon us to take ownership of the voting process and ensure these things don't happen on our own, lest we allow the very legislative body we seek to restrict to decide for us.
@icedo1013 I can see your reasoning, but I dont have faith in the voting public to stop such things. We already have that to some extent foreigners can't be elected, etc.
@@stormer9952 Fun fact: the rich elite that founded the US in the wake of the rebellion against the British also thought that only specific people should be allowed to vote in their democracy because the general public "doesn't know what's best for them".

People dont understand little bitty towns control quite a bit of power in local elections
I also live in a town of roughly 2,800 at max. And it’s interesting how small towns work with city council and even school boards. I know in our school it’s very obvious they treat some teachers differently. And because one of the teachers was of a certain family that was well known and respected, and involved in many things, he was never reprimanded despite how many complaints and serious things that occurred over the years. It took a family that finally wasn’t giving in and confronted the school board that it finally forced the school to ask him to quit or else he would be fired. They and no choice but to finally kick him due to how many things had occurred over the years. He got a job at another school…
And for what he did, well he was inappropriate with middle school girls, and made several students uncomfortable (including me). He was a middle school math teacher and he was AWFUL. He was weird and didn’t get boundaries with his students. At least two times his actions actually caused parents to get involved. But it was the third time that they finally got him out.

This small town corruption also applies to small countries. I live in Luxembourg and I'm so tired of it.
Years ago a couple tried to open a car repair shop and the government gave them all green flags. They had built their shop, employed mechanics and the business was going well. Then suddenly some representative knocked on their door, saying they have to close down their shop because they have no mechanic with a masters certificate. All the mechanics had years, even decades of experience, so no one understood what was the problem and the government worded this "master's certificate" thing so wishy-washy that they couldn't find anyone with the requested certificate and qualifications. The catch was this Level 100 ebony armoured master mechanic had to approve all the other mechanics.... that's not how it works... as far as I know.
Anyway, the wife lost her mind over it and set herself on fire in front of the building of the ministry that ruined their life.

I thought it was a bit dramatic, but I understood it.
Then was my turn.
I was 17 when my grandpa died, he left me some money and at 21 I finally knew what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to become a photographer. I got in contact with a "certain ministry" and they told me to just do what I want and when I'm ready to get in contact again to register my business. I blew almost all of my inheritance into equipment and when I found a cute studio I called them again to make appointments for my registration.... just to have the master's certificate bs dropped on me. I couldn't open a photo studio unless I had training by a professional photographer and a certificate. I started calling around and nobody knew what I was talking about. Back then you'd need to get approval for a special passport picture license, but I didn't want to be one of those photographers, I just wanted to do marriages and special occasions, or just normal portaits. None of the photographers I talked to ever heard of this master's bs.
Yeah well so I stuck to hobby photography and.... became a factory mechanic, just because I'm autistic and am really good with machines, no master's certificate, all my qualifications are forged by my boss so he could finally get a mechanic that doesn't suck 😂

What's positively insane is that if all these people who wanted to get Dochef to get his land back were not so insanely cheap, this whole thing could have been settled in the initial auction had they not banked on low balling the property.
Fair, but there's also a counterpoint that he could have let the guy buy his land back if he hadn't been greedy. Just because he expected to get $66k didn't mean he would have been harmed by not getting 66k.
There's a pattern where he got mad when anyone else tried to get the most they could, but he wouldn't even consider getting less than the absolute maximum.
@@mattejohnson1980 There was an actual plan in place and enacted to raise the value of the land, by zoning he opposed, and with lengthy measures.
By this time he didn't want to sell, he was established, and the plan was to either trade him undeveloped land for his developed land, or lowball him by making an offer that would match the value before the rezoning, which was substantially less.
At this point neither party liked each other, and realistically it would have made more sense for a 3rd party to buy it on the Dochefs/his buddies behalf.
I don't know if the initial plan was to get a concrete plant there, although it seems like it to me. But if it was, since they threw all this money preemptively into investing in the area before it would even be legal, it seems like their entitlement and greed is their own stumbling block.

I just wanted to point out about the sewer issue, he never had an actual septic tank on site, it was a buried cement mixer on site. The sewer district said either connect to the city line for $80k, or put an actual septic tank on site. He then started to dump his sewage directing into a agricultural service ditch instead. Also, the access road was never cut off, contrary to popular myth, it's still there today. Also wanted to point out after getting further into the clip, in reference to the zoning, cities/municipalities will rezone single lots, but it's usually within the same zoning classification (say R1 to R1A so someone can build a duplex on a lot). The zoning of the "light industrial" might come with requirements of adjacent zoning or certain distances away from existing structures or business, which is where this issue might have come from.
Now this seems like it could be legit, and I respect that it comes from a neutral tone. If this is true, I wonder what else was left out of the video that apparently had no proof supporting those claims. I understand that he was a hardheaded man that was old natured, but it still didn't quite make sense as to why he wouldn't just pay the price to run the line to the septic once he finally had the opportunity especially since he probably easily had the money. Something similar happened in the suburb we used to live. Essentially the city sold off a park that was required when the street was originally subdivided. Based on zoning, floor area ratio and setbacks it was not possible to build a house. When the city let the grass die and started removing picnic tables we asked the city clerk, he researched and said yep it was done in a closed door meeting. No notes, recordings or votes happened. Then months later, without any of the required variances to building code or notification as required a massive house was built.
Politics equal power, they use that power to buy influence, connections and ultimately enrich themselves, friends and family. The more power, the more money they control!
“There’s no point in acting surprised about it. All the planning charts and demolition orders have been on display at your local planning department in Alpha Centauri for 50 of your Earth years, so you’ve had plenty of time to lodge any formal complaint and it’s far too late to start making a fuss about it now. … What do you mean you’ve never been to Alpha Centauri? Oh, for heaven’s sake, mankind, it’s only four light years away, you know. I’m sorry, but if you can’t be bothered to take an interest in local affairs, that’s your own lookout. Energize the demolition beams.”
― Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
Look up the old Rock Island courthouse. Absolutely gorgeous historic building. The judge wanted his name on the new courthouse, but the new courthouse construction was held up because the city didn’t need two courthouses. So the city let the building become dilapidated, intentionally leaving windows open to the elements to ruin the interior and turn it into a safety hazard. People offered millions to buy it, one developer offered $5 million for the building to turn it into a veterans home. People wanted to salvage the wrought and cast iron, marble, and antique fixtures. The city ended up disobeying the historic registry laws and demolished it anyway, turning it into a green space.
The judge got his name on the ugly new eyesore of a courthouse.
pretty sure i live in your town, hah.... west mitten by the dunes?
My mother lived next door to Marvin growing up, always said he was a really good kid and somehow never connected that the Marvin Heemeyer in Colorado was the same one she lived next door to.
Thank you for all the homework on this. I, myself greatly appreciate all the hard work, time, and money that you have put forth. Thank you 👍
$120 for a 3 hour AI transcription is ridiculously expensive. I used to do transcription work, and a three hour file would have taken me about six hours, at $15 per hour (I definitely wasn't the fastest, but I got everything right). So for $90 or less, you could have had a real person do the work and have it done properly.
Moral of the story he go hosed and they got dozed.

They are still alive and his brain got spattered on this inside of his Karenmobile.
If Wikipedia mostly cites only one guy, you can pretty much guarantee he is heavily biased toward pro-establishment.
How can say such a thing!? I'm shocked, shocked I say, that wikipedia is anything but fair and balanced.
Lol
Yep. Wikipedia is such a great source of accurate and unbiased information. Sarcasm.
Not "almost" guarantee, it's 100% of the time.
We should instead trust the guy who believed God speaks to him and tried to smash a library full of children
Wikipedia is very reliable if you live. In a diluted liberal fantasyland
Surprised that the bit about him setting the armor into place wasn't mentioned. The moment he did that, he was truly committed because he essentially sealed himself in. That was the point of no return.
Thanks for this video and your investigation into the backstory. I remember seeing the Killdozer video when it came out on CZcams. It totally makes sense that there was a bunch of hidden town politics and I was suspicious of that at the time. Now I have a reasonable explanation of what that was.
Funny how they named it killdozer, he had absolutely no intention of killing anyone. He had a 50 cal and plenty of opertunity. He only fired after being fired at.
I think it's in reference to a 1970s made for tv movie call Killdozer
He fired on one of the loaders who tried to stop him and he had no idea that the buildings he attacked were evacuated. One having been evaluated during his attack on it. He absolutely had no way and desire for minimizing deaths.
@@carlost856 going 3mph and making all the noise it did, you would have to be a quadriplegic to not be able to get out of his way.
So he had no intention of killing anyone but he had a gun and rampaged through a town with a concrete encased bulldozer? Do you realize how dumb you sound?

Me and my wife live in a small town. And we have only been here for the last twelve years. We have learned that if you're not part of the group or if you don't do special favors for people, you will never get anywhere business wise.
and therefore your small town is representative of all small towns everywhere. Solid thinking.
Just tell them KILLDOZER is coming and all of them will crap in there Depends and give you what you want
@@railgap They added their voice to confirm a stereotype that has long since been known to be true about small towns. They're not only within their right, they are actually right. What are you?
Record and document all of this you find with evidence and publish it all some day. Then watch the roaches run......
@@railgap A lot better than the examples you have, eh? Small towns are small for a reason.
I knew there had to be more to the story. Thanks for the recap.
even when i first heard of the killdozer and was told it was some just some psycho that went on a rampage i was immediately sceptical because 1. he only targeted buildings and didnt hurt anyone 2. he was just slandered and nothing of who he was as a person was reported on so i did my own research and saw some other youtube videos and now marv is my hero
I served as a city councilman in a small town in North Texas and can confirm your analysis is right-on. Federal and State governments have nothing on small town corruption. Because a vanishingly small number of people in the community actually participate in their local government or otherwise attend public meetings, it is very, VERY easy for a small number of people with special interests to be elected and then use their position to change local laws, ordinances, zoning, etc. - issue bonds, and use that public money to benefit their friends and family.
Thing is this.
The 90% of people WANTING this position wants it to ABUSE IT.
Basicly, who becomes a politician or police/military high rank?
Mostly the corrupt and oportunist.
Minimally those in respons to the first.
Thus modern society happens.
This guys never was anti goverment as isclear he had his own dealing.
Hew as just petty and stubborn enough to act on it with certain success.
Yesterday for example, i was at house run store and people where talking about this buisness guy running for Mayor, how is known to be kinda shity to his 2000 employess, and how he got a visit from the president's wife.
People already suspect and known what is happening
Was this Wichita Falls by chance? Lol
I will agree, i have an old truck that the city i live in wants, they tried 5 different times to take it from me until i had it moved to a coworkers house who lives outside of town
The flip side is it is easy to correct by the same efforts.
I would like to offer a friendly challenge that the Fed/State governments are somehow less corrupt than local governments. Following the money alone tells me that the most corruption would happen where there are the most zeroes.
This is what happens when local government is not held accountable and not transparent. Just try standing up at a meeting and have a vocal difference and see how fast you get ordered out or arrested.
See many of the CZcams videos with a similar theme.
Small town hitlers only looking out for themselves
I have seen dozens of videos of schoolboard/school council meetings where people who don't even live in the area disrupt meetings to demand books be banned. I have yet to see or hear of anyone being arrested and most don't leave even if they are ordered to.

My father knew Marvin. He was a decent, hard-working man; according to my father. I lived down the street from the mayor, and I'll never forget seeing his "killdozer" coming up the street as the police evacuated us.
That must have been quite the sight to see! What a great memory!
@katherines9304 its probably a mixed bag lol, defanately a cool memery though.
@argenfargen It definitely was a mixed bag. It was terrifying, sad(especially after learning it was Marvin), and mesmerizing. The sheer size of his dozer was daunting.
I never met the man but he is the person who id like to know I feel sadness for him and wish things would happen differently I don't blame him for snapping that's years of headaches and bullies.
How lucky! You got to see something blessed.
Sounds to me that guy who milked the story for decades, as well as published a book and helped in making a blatantly incorrect documentary may have been one of the ones secretly screwing Marv over. That or he had connections to those who Marv affected, probably part of the same ‘Good Old Boys’ club as the rest.
He maybe even got paid to bury the whole thing
You talking about the movie "Tread"? I watched it a while back. Honestly seemed to be on the side of Marv much moreso than that of the people who screwed him over.
The guy ran a local newspaper in a town with blatant corruption. Is it even a question?
The "victors" always write "history"....
Yup. He deserves prison time or capital punishment if you ask me.
He’s was a welder, I’m sure he knew about liquid propane.
