Hi Matt, I'm really glad that you shared this description and visual representation of your vision. I appreciate being able to have a better understanding of your vision. I remember before we went on our first date that I watched a youtube video that someone made about what you might be able to see. It wasn't totally accurate to your vision but I hope this video will help other people, too.Thank you! Hey Lenny! Thank you very much, that is very kind of you! I’m not sure exactly what it looks like through the camera, but I thought this would probably be a pretty good example. Somewhat transparent, but yet not at the same time. But still allowing a significant amount of light to shine through to give the illusion of light perception, but a very cloudy image at that. Thanks again Lenny, I’m so happy to be your friend and to know you! :-) I have had a few people reach out already and say that this description was spot on with how they see with light perception. Have a great Tuesday Lenny! I hope you’re having a nice week and enjoying the beautiful California weather! Talk to you soon, Matt

Hi Matt. Good job describing light perception. That’s the best we have ever heard it described. In my case the more light I have the better, because it makes it easier to see where things are like chairs are people even though I can’t tell just by looking that it’s a chair or a person. As far as contrasted think it’s easier with a darker background. For example in my kitchen we have a darker colored tablecloth. If I lay a white sheet of paper on top of that to scan it with my phone or something, I can tell that the paper is a lighter color because it stands out with a dark background. I only have central vision though, so in my case I can only see straight ahead or whichever way I’m facing.

Hi Tiffany! Thank you very much for your very kind words, that means a lot to me! I’m glad that you think this is the best light perception has been described, I appreciate the great feedback! That makes perfect sense about a white piece of paper on your dark tablecloth, I am exactly the same way! It’s always nice to have that drastic contrast difference which allows us to see things a little easier. It’s interesting that you prefer more light and very bright situations which allows you to see better. I always find it to be fun to learn more about you and your vision. @@BlindtoBillionaire That's awesome! Corey's job sounds very interesting! What a cool speciality! And in my down time I spend alot of time with my dog! Walking her and playing with her and just spoiling the crap out of her. Haha I dont have any kids so she is my baby! She is a boxer and she is 9 years old but she acts just like a puppy! And I live with my older brother who is my also my best friend, so we spend alot of time hanging out together with the pup. I am also engaged to a wonderful man, it will be 5 years together next weekend! We haven't officially started planning a wedding but we will be soon! The planning has been put on hold for now because we recently found out our dog has a very rare and aggressive form of cancer. We had the tumor removed and did scans to check for any spread and so far there is nothing detectable but that doesnt mean there arent still cancer cells in her body that could grow and spread, so she is going through chemo right now. Just started her first dose a little over a week ago. She is taking it surprisingly well! Dogs and cats get a much lower dose than humans as to keep their quality of life as best as possible so she has very minimal side effects luckily! Some side effects can be very scary but so far she has only had some GI symptoms but naseau meds help with that alot! She still has all of her energy and is eating great and thankfully dogs dont lose their fur! Sometimes they lose their whiskers or longer haired dogs can lose some fur but its uncommon. So yea we have been dealing with that. It's been tough but we are thankful she is feeling so well and acting like her normal self! 😊 hope you have a wonderful day! Do you guys have any pets or do you want any? Other than a guide pony that is? Haha that would seriously be the best! Can you take them everywhere you can take a guide dog though? I'll have to some research on them! So interesting and cute!

That is really sad about your dog, I am so sorry to hear that. It is nice to hear that your doggie is still doing well despite her diagnosis. That is very sad, and I hope that the chemo will allow her to live a lot longer and still live a happy life. Although, I’m sure she is still being very happy with as much as you spoil her as much as you love her and take care of her. That is so sweet of you! As for pets, no, we do not have any pets and probably will not get any. We do enjoy dogs and other animals, but we are not really the type of people to have them as pets right now. We feel like we wouldn’t be able to give it to him as much time and attention as we should, and we feel like we would not be able to give it as much time as we would like to. Possibly at some point in the future, but not for a little while. I hope you’re having a great Tuesday, see you and talk to you again soon :-) Matt

Sometimes, all of the "lights" go out suddenly and it is scary. They are telling me my left eye has thinning and may have permanent damage. I am a relatively healthy person so this is confusing everyone. I hope we figure this out bc I am more worried by the day. I don't usually publicize my personal life, but I have been reaching out to may be come across someone who is having this happen to them too. Although I read it is very rare. I have more vision than yourself at the moment, I see Light and dark. I also see shapes - so, like if someone is sat in front of me, I see they are there , as I see their "shape" - albeit with blurry edges . I don't see the detail, so couldn't say what they are wearing, or see if they are looking at me etc. It scares me to go out at night, as I am almost totally blind then..but getting there with all of this vision loss life...very slowly

    HEY MATT.
THANK GOD IT IS MONDAY AGAIN. I STAYED UP JUST TO WATCH YOUR MONDAY VIDEO!!!
THIS VIDEO WAS AWESOME AND IT REALLY DOES CONVEY HOW MY VISION IS TOO. BUT i NEVER REALLY CALLED IT LIGHT PERCEPTION. I WOULD JUST SAY MY VISION IS REALLY CLOUDY TODAY OR HAZY. BUT I GUESS I HAVE LIGHT PERCEPTION ALSO. THE THING WITH ME THOUGH, IS THAT THIS LIGHT PERCEPTION HAPPENS LIKE EVERY OTHER DAY. LIKE TODAY I HAVE IT BUT TOMORROW MY VISION WILL SEEM TO BE CLEAR. THEN THE NEXT DAY I WILL HAVE LIGHT PERCEIPTION, THEN THE NEXT WILL BE CLEAR. AND SO ON AND SO ON. I TOO LIKE THINGS THAT HAVE A BLACK BACKGROUND AND WHITE ON IT. THAT IS HOW MY LAPTOP IS SET UP AND MY IPHONE TOO. I AM FINDING THAT SOMETHING OR SOMEONE THAT IS AGAINS SOMETHING BRIGHT OR LIGHT IN THE BACKGROUND SEEMS TO LIKE BE VERY FADING TO ME. SO I HAVE TROUBLE SEEING PEOPLE OR THINGS.
THANKS AGAIN MATT FOR MY MONDAY FIX AND A GREAT START TO ANOTHER GREAT WEEK. SEE YOU ON WEDNESDAY. HUGS
BY THE WAY, ARE YOUR EYES READY YET FOR CONTRACT SURGERY? I WROTE A COMMENT ON A VIDEO THAT YOU MADE A WHILE BACK THAT YOU CAN READ. IT IS THE VIDEO WHERE YOU HAD ASKED THE EYE DR. ABOUT IF YOU WERE A CANDIDATE FOR CATARACT SURGERY AND IF YOUR VISION WOULD BE BETTER. I REALLY THINK THE DOCTOR SHOULD OF BEEN A LITTLE BIT MORE INFORMATIVE.
WHAT I MEAN BY THIS IS THAT WHEN YOU HAVE CATARACT SURGERY, THEY TAKE YOUR BAD LENSE AND REPLACE IT WITH A NEW LENSE THAT IS KINDA LIKE A FAKE LENSE THAT IS NOT THE SAME TYPE OF LENSE THAT YOU HAVE HAD SINCE BIRTH. WHEN YOU WAKE UP, YOU WILL FIND THAT LIGHT WILL BE A LOT MORE BRIGHTER AND MAYBE A LITTLE MORE CLEAR WITH SLURRYNESS. THAT IS WHAT I WHAT I EXPERIENCED WHEN I HAD CATARACt SURGERY ON BOTH MY EYES. IT WON'T TAKE AWAY OR MAKE THE RP ANY BETTER, BUT IT WILL CLEAR UP SOME STUFF.
I HOPE THIS MAKES SENCE. ALSO, IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN TO A EYE DR. FOR A WHILE , HAVE THEM CHECK TO SEE WHERE YOUR CATARACTS ARE. THAT MIGHT BE WHY YOUR VISION IS LIKE LOOKING THREW WAX PAPER.
UNTIL NEXT TIME. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, FEEL FREE TO ASK ANYTHING ABOUT CATARACTS OR THE SURGERY OR ANYTHING ELSE.
    LATER MY FRIEND.

Hey Stephen! Thank you, that is really sweet of you to stay awake to watch my video! I’m glad that you enjoyed it. Sorry to keep you up so late, it took forever to upload this video this time. It is very interesting to hear how some days you have like perceptions, while other days you have clear vision. That is very interesting but at the same time, I think it is pretty consistent for a lot of us to have a vision that varies almost on a daily basis. I know that mine does. Thank you for all the information about the cataract surgery, that is very exciting and encouraging. I wish I could get the cataract surgery, and I am aware that they do take out the lens and replace it with a synthetic lens. However, a couple different doctors that I saw said my cataracts are very minor and that is not what is causing my poor vision and cloudy vision, but rather it is the retinitis pigmentosa causing my vision to be that way. Which is both of us know, there’s nothing that can be done about that right now, unfortunately. Thanks again Stephen, I really appreciate all that information and for you staying up to watch my video, that means a lot to me! I hope you’re sleeping well, sweet dreams! See you again on Wednesday :-) hugs to you too :-) mad

This is cool, it’s one of the more ingenuity of explanations. Another example I’ve heard is Vasoline on glass. Come to think of it I think I fit into that category I sometimes get glimpses of high contrast colour in very bright light but there is no definition of borders i’ll context. For example here in Australia. We have our garbage bins are identified by coloured tops. But they all have the same shape and size. The only colour bin I can differentiate is the one with the yellow lid Quite often in the yellow lid is the only thing I can see. It can be quite disorienting because it looks like it’s floating, just this yellow blurr floating

    • @BlindtoBillionaire
      @BlindtoBillionaire  Před 5 lety +2

Hi, that is actually a really interesting perspective about the garbage can lids. That is kind of funny how you see the yellow lid just floating there. LOL, but actually very similar to how I see it too. It makes it difficult when all of them are the same size and shape, with the exception of a different lid cover. Color. Oh yes, I like that idea too, Vaseline on glass, that’s actually really good idea. That would be a great way to describe it, blurry but yet light still shines through. Thanks again for watching this, it’s so nice to hear from you again! Matt

Hey Matt that's a pretty good example that you showed in this video that is kind of what my peripheral vision looks like which is basically the outer portions of the visual field so I can't really see objects or people around me only directly in front but as I look around I can kind of see just light blurry light they've done visual field testing before on my left eye since it's the only one I see out of I can't see the little dots that the machine is projecting onto the screen but when I'm outside I can kind of see the light through the corner of my butt that enough to really know if there's something next to me or not.

However, it sounds like your Perfield vision is very similar to what I see as a whole throat all of my vision. Hi! Thank you for reaching out to me with this information. It’s nice to hear that you still have pretty good central vision. That is very interesting about the orange tinted lenses on your glasses! I have heard the glasses the cut down blue light is very helpful for people with retinitis pigmentosa. Apparently blue light is very harmful to our eyes. Thanks for the recommendation on the glasses! Matt

Hey Neil! Great to hear from you, I hope you’re doing well! Very well said, I do the exact same thing. The nice thing about all of these different devices is that they all have a different sound which is distinct so it’s very very easy to know our location when we can just listen to one of the zones and know exactly where we are. It seems that we have a lot of similarities. Thanks for watching this! As always, it’s nice to hear from you. Have a great night! Matt

I have light perception only in right, hand motion in left. hand motion adds to light the ability to see an arm, hand, or an object of some sort crossed my path. I can’t tell what it is, rather it is an arm, leg, hand, or an object, but I can see whatever it is crossed my path if it’s right up to my face. they call that hand motion. it just adds to the light is all, so I still can’t see you what it actually is.. it was kind of frightening actually, because my vision just dropped to that just a few months ago and it happened before my very eyes. I went from being able to count fingers and being able to see colors, to that, pretty much during the day one day out of the blue. I started out at 20/100 back in 2009, and slowly dropped a little bit at a time. Each time it was during the day before my very eyes. this happened to a condition called glaucoma. for that, I take a series of four different brand of eyedrops, one, two, and three times a day. and with those drops, the pressures were pretty well-controlled, but I still lost vision, and they don’t know why. One thing I noticed, is the sight got worse the longer I was exposed to sunlight and indoor bright light like you see at Walmart. without my sunglasses on. The doctors don’t know, but I think do you longer I was exposed to those type of lights without my sunglasses, caused the sight loss, because it seems like whenever I was out in the sun, or those really bright overhead Walmart lights, are the times I noticed losing sight during the day like that. but I was so dependent on what sight I had, that I didn’t take the time to realize that. sunglasses impaired my sight more, so I took them off to see or navigate, when I shouldn’t have. I should have taken blindfold training earlier. but our local blind training center, bosma, encouraged me to use what I have, discouraging me from learning blindfold skills early. if I had learned those skills earlier, I could have saved my sight, I truly believe that.

Hi Tom, that is really scary to see a decline in your vision as rapidly as you did. Going from being able to see your hand and counting fingers, to only being able to see an object go across your visual field but not being able to identify what it is. That is very scary to see how quickly your vision declined. The bright lights inside of stores like Walmart, like you were suggesting can actually be very detrimental to our vision. The blue light that is emitted from these lights is very damaging to our eyes. It is always recommended that we were sunglasses when in bright lights and definitely outdoors in sunlight. Hopefully the eyedrops that you are using are somewhat helpful in slowing the progression or possibly prolonging the vision that you currently do have. Thank you for sharing this information, I always enjoy learning more about other people in the degree of their vision loss. I hope you are doing well, and once again, thank you for reaching out and sharing all this information about yourself. I look forward to hearing from you again soon! Matt

I'm legally blind from birth. When I was born I had cataracts and in 1977 they didn't know how to get rid of them other than destroying my lenses. I do have glaucoma and now I have artificial lenses but I still wear glasses but not as thick as my old glasses were. I do have the ability to see color but I know that there have been times when I have had a Milkey and blurry film over my eyes and most of the time I don't. When my friend who has light perception let me know she has it I thought that light perception was that you only could see just white light and that it didn't have any detail in it. Behind you, you had a night light that was shining when you turned the overhead light off. It was not as bright as the overhead light but when I was looking at the light through the waxpaper I could see the different beams of light in detail but I'm not sure if the light to someone who has light perception would look like a light that is scattered so you can't see the detail like if the light source was in a frosted lense cover. I have had people ask me if I can see shadows and I'm sure that a shadow looks differently to you than it would to me. I have looked at a light table or the thing that doctors use to look at X-RAY. When you place an object on it for example black would the lines on the outside of that object be clear between the light and the opaque object or would the light and the object be blurry but you could define the shape against the light? I know that blindness is a spectrum but just trying to really put myself in the choice of the other person can at times be frustrating to bother the person who experiences it but wants others to know what it is like and the people who want to just understand what it's like. It was a good video.

My Central vision is just like looking through a piece of wax paper except the outer peripheral is much clearer however not a hundred percent. My lower peripheral is pretty much gone and very blotchy.
After taking a shower the other day I noticed that the mirror in the bathroom through my peripheral looked very similar to my vision. From what I could tell so I took a photo of it. When I checked it later in the zoom it was the closest thing yet I have seen to my vision loss. Perhaps I will show it in a future video on my channel.

Hey Vincent, that’s actually very interesting. I never thought of that analogy, but the foggy mirror is actually a perfect example. I no longer know what that looks like because I haven’t seen it in years, but I do recall it from when I had better vision years ago. That’s actually a great example, I may borrow that one from you! It’s very interesting to hear that your central vision is like looking through wax paper while your proof of vision is a little more clear. It’s always interesting to learn more about you and your vision. Thanks Vincent! I really enjoyed learning more about you through the comments and through your videos! Have a great night, Matt

@@BlindtoBillionaire but you have my full permission to use any analogies you want from me. As the wax paper analogy I stole from someone else. LOL
I heard someone say that and I said oh my God never even thought of that. But wax paper is so on the point. It's blotchy some parts are easier to see through and some are not that's how my vision is in the central. Minus the Stars rainbows and firework shows I get.
I'm hoping it stays this way for the rest of my life if not and it has to change again I hope it will get better. I have heard of stories where people have optic atrophy and miraculously out of the blue their Vision comes back dramatically. These stories exist maybe one day I'll be the next one. But until then I'm happy the way I am I've met awesome people like you your wife and every other awesome amazing blind or visually impaired and sighted individual on CZcams. Friends are awesome.

Wow, that is really exciting to think that possibly your vision could spontaneously restore, that would be a miracle story! I hopefully you are the next person! I completely agree, wax paper is a good analogy. It is somewhat transparent, but at the same time not really. It provides a cloudy image but still allows a significant amount of light to shine through. Thanks for the permission to use your analogies, I appreciate that! LOL. I will be sure to give you credit for them in the future. Hope you’re having a great night, see you and talk to you again soon :-) mad

Dorzolamide is used to treat high pressure inside the eye due to glaucoma (open angle-type) or other eye diseases (e.g., ocular hypertension). ... This medication works by decreasing the amount of fluid within the eye. It belongs to a class of drugs known as carbonic anhydrase inhibitors. .... Go to a Specialist about RP ... the normal eye doc's hardly have a clue

This is a very interesting topic. Because in order to explain it so that a fully sighted person my understand. It would require a understanding of how a fully sighted person might see. Sort of a middle ground understanding of both worlds is needed. In order to put it into context sighted people can understand. It’s almost like the equivalent of a sighted person trying to explain colour or light to a person who has never seen if you are still reading this there is an interesting video discussing visual perceptions Called is your red the same as my red? made bye v-source

Hi, that is actually a very interesting perspective. Trying to explain color to a blind person who has never seen color, where do you even start, how do you explain it, how does it a person even conveyed to the blind person what color could possibly even look like. How does that blind person even build the image of what color could possibly look like. Is very interesting, but yet a great topic to discuss with a lot of similarities to this video!. Thank you so much for reaching out that resource, I really appreciate it! I should look into that and do some research on it. As always, it’s nice to hear from you! Matt
