    4:30 yeah, I totally agree with you that arguement and that is actually the point. You need to make the best of it. In Germany we had before two weeks a blind connection festival two days. I'm still far away from that, however, to see how they manage their daily routine was interesting. Some were with the dogs totally independent and some need help. People who needs help, I guess they are not blind from the beginning or maybe they got a different kind of attitude...I don't know, the main message was, to watch blind people on this festival and how they did manage it. They are talking to each other even when someone is big and the other one skinny. No judgements, no nothing. You can clearly see (or maybe feel) the connection between these guys and I'm happy we have such festival for blind people, because blind people are still people :)

      Hi! Thank you, this is an awesome comment! I completely agree with you, blind people are still people, and it is so cool how we can communicate with each other without passing on any judgment, we just except people for who they are and like I said in the video, generally what comes out of their mouth. I would have to say, that is probably one of the best attributes of being visually impaired and not being able to see people, the lack of judgment in this community. Thank you so much for sharing about the festival, that sounds really interesting. Some people definitely do adapt very well especially if they had low vision or blindness from a very young age. Thanks again for watching this and for being on this channel, it means a lot to me! Have a nice weekend, I look forward to talking with you again soon. Matt

    Thank you for your description of your functional vision, Matt. It is always so interesting to hear what each of us sees and interprets with air residual vision. It is fascinating how well we can use this limited vision to function as well as we can. It is so hard for sighted people to understand that we use the little vision we have two its best advantage. Thank you so much for sharing.

      Good morning! Thank you very much for the positive feedback on this video, it’s always nice to hear what people think of the videos and if they are informative or not. I agree, most sighted people are very confused about the whole idea of visual impairment, like perception, and blindness. It’s very cool how all of us have a variation of vision loss, but yet we learn how to adapt and work with the usable vision that we have. Even if it is just like perception, we learn how to adapt and use different techniques to utilize that little bit of vision that we do have to make our life a little bit easier. Thank you for the great comment, it was a lot of fun to read this one. I appreciate having you here on this channel, thank you so much for your continued support and friendship, it means a lot to me! Have a great weekend, I look forward to talking with you again soon :-) Matt

      Yes, we made it down safe and sound. Thank you for asking. We have been here for a few weeks now. My parents and several other family members live here, and it is where I was born and lived most of my life, so it’s all good. Just forgot how hot it is here in the summer after living several years up north. We might have to head back up once September rolls around and the nice fall weather doesn’t roll In down here.

I think I have only been to with the Miami airport, but never explored Miami. Maybe Corey and I will need to make our way down there once the cold weather hits up here in Minnesota. We love to have excuses to get out of here any chance we can between the months of November and April, which is when it is very cold here. I hope you have a great Monday! :-) You’re a cool dude, I’m very I am very happy to know you :-) Matt

    Great video Matt! You made a very good point and this is one reason why I feel blind people are so awesome! Because we can not see, we judge more by the heart instead of by sight. If more people would do that instead of superficially with looks, I feel this would be a much better world!

    • @BlindtoBillionaire
      @BlindtoBillionaire  Před 5 lety

      Good morning Doug! Great point, I completely agree. It’s hard to admit, but let’s be honest, all of us judge people based on their appearance as we approach them, or as we see them across the store or anywhere. The cool thing about being someone who cannot see their appearance, we don’t have the ability to judge based

    Hey Matt, so many good points in this video. It is so cool that you can see the moon! I can only see it in my periphery because my vision is central loss first, spreading out to the periphery. And just like you, I can see that it is bright outside but I need to feel and see if I am in the shade or standing in the sun. You also bring up a great point about not being able to see peoples facial expressions because I understand that many, many people walk around with a pouty face or a mad face or a worried face or a preoccupied face and we, the visually impaired, miss all of that negative stuff. You bring out some really good points in this video . Oh, and the black and white contrast color identification, same with me. I make a big mess in the laundry room sorting clothes because the light Hass to be just right for me to have a pile of light clothes and a pile of dark clothes to do the laundry.. Sometimes a sock will actually change color while I am holding it. It first is black and then the next time my eyes see it it’s now white. LOL. Thanks for your perspective on light perception. There are so many similarities in us all. Hope you have a great weekend and look forward to your video on Monday

      Good morning Beverly! I always enjoy reading your comments because I feel like you always have something so interesting to say. This was really fun, it’s cool that you can also see the moon out of your periphery, that is similar to me as well. LOL, I love the sock story when you were sold sorting laundry. I like how it changes color, I do that too. If the lighting is not perfect, I will look at an item and it will literally change color from every time that I look at it. It is so interesting how both of us see, it actually sounds like our vision is very similar. I also wanted to mention, I did receive your email the other day and I did read it a couple times, I have not had a chance to reply quite yet. Thank you for your patience and understanding. I will definitely reply to you soon :-) thank you once again for sharing all of your experiences and adventures that you go on with Gretchen, that is very exciting and encouraging, it makes me want to get a guy dog now. :-) I hope you have a great weekend, and thank you again for being such a special friend to Corey and me :-) Matt

    I also describe it as, if the person was in a dark room and you turn the light switch on they would know there was a light on. When we talk about people who have no light perception the person would not know the light on in a dark room.

      Hi! Thank you for watching this video and for reaching out, that is actually a great example! I really like that, I may use that in one of my videos at some point. I completely agree, I love that interpretation, it is very simple, but yet it shares a great example of what light perception is. As I think about that, sometimes when I’m in a room if the light is on, I cannot tell that it is on or off, I need to actually looking directly at the light in order to tell if it is on. I love watching your videos, they bring back so many memories. When you were first starting out, I had a vivid memory of my Grandpa Phillips. He had RP and lost his sight in his 50s. I remember going to his house when he had the chicken. It was a white chicken and the grass was that beautiful summer dark green. He was bare footed, running around in the back yard chasing that chicken because he wanted to mow the lawn. The chicken had to be put up first, but it was so funny watching him chasing that silly bird. He caught her! lol, but I don't think she was around much longer after that. He didn't think it was funny at all!

    That's the coolest thing about blindness, I don't judge appearances. I have more remaining vision, I can see colours and I can see what people are wearing, but I can't see facial expressions at all.
    I wrote a short story with a character who has light perception. There's a lighthouse in the story and this character can see the movement of the lights. Good to know this is actually possible, since my eyesight is not the same as someone with light perception only.
    Great video like always.

      Hi! That is so cool about your short story that you wrote, that sounds so cool! It’s nice that you’re still able to see what people are wearing but on able to see facial expressions, that’s all right. I agree, it is nice to have those aspects of being visually impaired, not having the ability to judge people, although, it is a little bit difficult when in a conversation to read and understand the nonverbal’s like facial expressions when you cannot see them. Either way, thank you so much for sharing about your short story, sounds awesome! :-) It’s always so nice to hear from you :-) Matt

    Thanks for addressing what and how you see. When people ask me about my field of vision, I have difficulty describing. And since it takes more than one sentence, I usually trail off. I can't see facial expressions but I realize no one's that interested. They're probably sorry they asked. It's frustrating because I can't quite understand my own vision.

    • @BlindtoBillionaire
      @BlindtoBillionaire  Před 5 lety +2

      Good morning! I’m glad to hear that you found this video to be helpful and informative. I hope you don’t feel frustrated when people ask you about your vision, it is actually very difficult to explain what we see. Like I always tell people, it is difficult to explain because it is literally different in every situation and in every lighting. I might be able to see a little bit in some lighting, while I cannot see anything in other lighting. There are a variety of other factors and it seems like our vision changes day by day, almost hour by hour. Hopefully this video gave a couple ideas on how you can more easily and accurately describe what your vision is like. What I have found is that regardless of how detailed we are trying to explain our vision, in most cases, most people do not understand anyway. They are still confused by the whole concept. Please feel free to reach out anytime, I’m here for you to discuss anything :-) you’re a great friend and I’m very happy to know you! Blind to Billionaire That's exactly it. Lighting has to be perfect not that I could explain what perfect is. Daylight makes things too bright even when it's cloudy but night time turns everything pitch dark. Bright lights irritate me so I insist on dimming or turning off lights. But then ofcourse, I can't see a thing. Either way, I can't win. I know... I have to come to terms with the fact that I just can't see but I still have a habit of trying to see. 😭

    Good evening young man :-) (Most people are young when compared to me lol )
    I like this particular video. Because I only lost most of my vision this last year or so, I still remember peoples faces, places, trees, flowers, grass, the sea etc - so, even though I don't see it now (I see light, and I see very blurred shapes - just don't see the detail), I still kind of feel like I know what everything looks like. Its only when I meet someone new, I haven't a clue. I entertain myself sometimes, by thinking that none of my friends will every get any older in my eyes, as I will always picture them as the last time I saw them :-).
    I think loosing my sight has made me a much more appreciative man. This sounds a little stupid, but, sometimes I don't like the dark, as now, dark to me is very very dark, and, I see as you do, if there is a light in the dark - I don't see the source of the light as in if it is a round bulb etc, but I see the light in general. So, I see nothing when its dark, and that's one thing I hate about being blind, that I can't see things in the dark anymore - so, it makes me quite afraid sometimes
    Anyway..great video
    take care
    love to Corey x

That is very interesting that you have light perception in one eye with a little bit better acuity in the other. Based on what you can see with the eye with light perception, do you think that I explained it accurately in this video? Thanks again for watching this and for being here, I always appreciate hearing from you and all of your continued support! Matt

      This reminds me a couple weeks ago i was asked to look at some writing on the wall to my left while looking straight ahead, my response was what writing the wall looks blank, come to find out when i did look to my left not only was there writing on the wall but a clock as well.

      Hi, that is interesting. That would be the same situation for me too. Don’t feel bad, but I guess it makes you realize how limited your peripheral vision is on that side. Thank you for sharing! Matt

    Great video Matt enjoyed listening. Like you if the moon is full enough or big enough I can see it not clearly though just around fuzzy light.
    But what is strange for me as I literally believe I lost the ability to see a certain spectrum of light. Why do you ask? Well, it's because when I look at the night sky I don't see black or Stars. I see the most brilliant hue of hot pink. It's actually very beautiful. And the crazy thing is when I see the trees they're not pink at all they're just a solid blob dark color fort Greene only this guy legit is a hot pink.
    I started to have the hardest time to terminate gorgeous thing wishing colors from one another. My vision seems to be stable to me however my color vision has been getting worse and worse.
    However I will say during the day if I'm wearing sunglasses or if the sun is not my face the sky still the most brilliant blue. And I can still see some of the clouds in the blue as have to cherish the site we have wild you still have it.

      Good morning my brother! Thank you for sharing that, that sounds so interesting. I love the fact that you can still see the sky and the clouds in some circumstances and how the sky glow is pretty colors. It doesn’t matter what the sky looks like in reality, but whatever your reality in your mind is is what matters. It sounds like you enjoy a beautiful sky and scenery, which is amazing! I hope you had a great weekend, and nice start to your Monday as well :-) Matt

    You may want to bring up the fact that you do not generally wear sunglasses indoors, and that not all blind people do. This can be because someone’s eyes may not look good, so they are self-conscious, or bright light can be painful. Then of course the ever popular, but you don’t look blind.

    • @BlindtoBillionaire
      @BlindtoBillionaire  Před 5 lety

      Good morning! LOL, oh yes, I love that statement, you do not look blind, you’re looking at me, you were making eye contact, you were not blind. LOL. That is a good one! We hear that all too often. Yes I understand, some people wear sunglasses because they’re self-conscious of the way that their eyes look. I sometimes like to wear sunglasses simply because I am not able to make eye contact very well, so it is a way for me to conceal and hide that I am not able to make eye contact. Thank you for pointing all this out, I always appreciate reading your comments as you always have something very informative and intelligent to say. Have a great Wednesday, thanks again for reaching out :-) Matt

      Good morning! Thank you for the question, to answer that for you, no, I cannot distinguish the colors of Christmas lights. I can see the bright light, but I cannot determine what color it is at all. I hope that answers your questions :-) it’s great to hear from you again, I hope all is going well for you :-) Matt

    Okay.. Confused as to why he's always looking off to the right side of the camera. First, I feel like you know where you set the camera down or you have someone around who can tell you where to look. Or, like Molly Burke does, just put your light behind/slightly above where your camera is so you know where to look.

    • @rachmarie55
      @rachmarie55 Před 5 lety

      And then he'll randomly glance down at the camera! You know where it is! Just look at it!

    • @BlindtoBillionaire
      @BlindtoBillionaire  Před 5 lety

      rach LOL, are you serious right now? Clearly you didn’t listen to the video. I can’t see the camera. If I could see the camera, I would look at it. Sorry my vision isn’t perfect like yours so that you can set the camera down and look exactly where it is. I cannot see the camera, that is why I am always looked up to the side or above, below, or somewhere other than at the camera. The entire time during the video, I am trying to look for it which is why you may see me looking around and possibly happened to make eye contact with the camera.

      Hey Larry, that is so true, you can tell by the smell! That is so funny, there’s that one smell, I’m not sure how to describe it, but it smells the same each time. Very interesting, great point! Matt

      Usually you can tell by the sound of thunder also if it is about to rain or not and sometimes you could hear the wind blow if it is about to be a bad storm out there.

    • @BlindtoBillionaire
      @BlindtoBillionaire  Před 5 lety +1

      Hey Larry! And good morning, you are very true, that is very accurate. You can typically tell by the smell, sound of the thunder, increase in wind speed and blowing, and sometimes the color of the sky if a person is able to see that. Very good points! Matt
