I watched a documentary about Mick and Mairead Philpott recently, and some of the stuff that came out about how Mick Philpott behaved when he went to view/ID his children’s bodies and how he behaved when he finally visited the oldest son before he died was truly despicable. He called the dead kids “little sh!ts” in front of the staff when he viewed the kids bodies, and when he went to visit his eldest son before the boy died, he made crude sexual comments and passes at the nurses looking after his eldest son. What a thoroughly disgusting person.

Hi Emma. firstly i want to thank you for dedicating this to this children. i knew the Philpott family from the age of about 7-10, Duwayne was my age and i was close with him, aswell as Jade who always wanted to be a princess. i had no idea. being a child, i knew the man who built a playground in his backyard and invited us round to play for his 50th birthday, finding out who he really was is the reason i decided to pursue criminology.
those children were wonderful and they deserved better.

It is sad, but I'm betting its because we hear SO much about the perpetrator and so little about the victims, and sometimes there are so many victims. And for some it could be that they are so focused on the why of the matter because for most that why is pretty far from relatable. I wish when they did documentaries they would do like an added get to know the victims part somewhere in there, like some sort of tribute to the victims and families of the victims.

@@hohohohehehe6910 I can agree to an extent. But in cases like say Ted Bundy for example, its hard to focus on who the victims are when we know there are at least 30 victims in his case. So when its one or 2 I feel you are more likely to remember the victims names because we may hear it in the media more often or see it on social media, but when its a bunch the media isn't going to take the time to make sure we know every single one.. but I am happy that in some cases we get to know the victims better and recognize their faces. I'm horrible with that kind of thing so I truly am glad that people like you can remember a victim and who they are better than the name of the person that took that life away.

Well done Lass. Your analysis of this case is well read and researched. I fully agree with you in that the children should be object of praise and sympathy. Mick Philpott should never be released back into the community. As you have mentioned, this man is of no conscience and regret in what he has done, but moreover, his actions were totally based on him and his ego to gain a larger house from the council by doing actions which resulted in the death of 6 children. He obviously did not take into consideration his actions and the speed in which the fire took hold before it was too late to do anything about it. I also feel deep sympathy for the neighbours who tried to rescue the children, but there was little they could do. This will be on their conscience for the rest of their lives.

What I’ve never been able to “get” is why they weren’t genuinely utterly devastated that the children dying had been the outcome of this preposterous plan - they didn’t intend them to die in the fire so why weren’t there genuine tears?! This to me says it all about the depravity of these people. And I absolutely hate myself for this but it’s even crossed my mind over the years that those beautiful children are probably better off dead than having the upbringing that they were destined to. Sorry if that upsets anyone, it upsets me to think it but I hope you know where I am coming from. I’m sure people will recognise her now she’s out and let’s hope if he ever gets out (which he shouldn’t) the right sort of people recognise him because there’s nothing bad enough that could happen to both of him. Really enjoy these videos Emma, thanks v much x

Supposedly you’ve orchestrated a plan to gain custody of the reason for a thousand pounds a month. Supposedly it was just meant to be fake, so you can act the hero, *and* get those kids back even as you blame your girlfriend. Then in the course of seconds the plan, literally, goes up in smoke.
Would you not be *more* grief stricken? Maybe hint at guilty knowledge? Be devastated?

It sounds horrible but I know what you mean. I do not believe that their parents took good care of the childeren. Even letting your child live in an enviorment where you as an adult are being abused in any way, is already abusive to a child. Childeren watch and learn they see everything. A person who abuses woman and underage girls, usually is or will abuse others who he feel infirior of. He got away with stabbing his ex 27 times. That made him feel untouchable. So he increased his crimes. Burning your childeren alive does not sound like a parents who take good care of his/ her childeren. The girl that desperatley got away with her childeren. When she tells her story I bet he abused the childeren aswell. On some part I agree with you being raised by does parents with no way out, is sometimes better to not be alive. How those childeren must have felt

I often wonder what lengths I would have gone to for that man, and they are thoughts that scare the crap out of me. So there is a part of me that, while being disgusted at what Mick’s wife did, can understand to a degree. She would have gone along with the plan because there was no other option, and he would have convinced her that it was safe. Just imagine how she would have felt the moment she realised her children were in danger. Although, having said that, you’re right, Emma. I would have died trying to save my children, and she didn’t. This was the first thing I noticed. Also, which was very noticeable, no tears, no real portrial of stress, no appealing to people for information. It was also quite obvious, he showed no emotion at all in terms of what you may have expected under such conditions. Those were the very telling signs which would have implicated himself as the perpetrator. It is also quite stressing to see him act in such a way in which he showed no emotion, stress or feeling to the demise of his children. As you have said Emma, he was completely disconnected in many ways to his actions and the consequences thereafter.
