    I did like how Buster Busts Loose pulled various music tracks from the show. The Dizzy boss theme, the train boss theme, Calamity's stage, the runaway sequence at the end of Calamity's stage, etc. I also found it interesting that they didn't use Montana Max as the final boss. In fact, there's no boss fight with him at all in BBL. BBL on the SNES was good fun back in the day. I'll have to give Buster's Hidden Treasure a look too.

    • @leob4403
      @leob4403 Před 6 lety +6

      BHT reuses the Dizzy Devil Boss theme from BBL as the level theme for at least a half dozen different stages. Also, I feel the criticism about the Tiny Toons theme being repeated is invalid because it only comprises a tiny portion of the overall track.

  • @ClockworkBard
    @ClockworkBard Před 8 lety +50

    I have a soft spot for Buster Busts Loose's gameplay. Its levels are varied and unique. It is constantly throwing new and interesting ways to explore its otherwise simple mechanics. The dash segments feel genuinely satisfying to complete and can kind of be seen as a precursor to the modern runner genre. The boss fights also have engaging mechanics, instead of just patterns to avoid and heads to jump on -- very high quality design for its era. It's a different and fun enough game to stand out. Hidden Treasure is a good platformer and I still go back to play it from time to time, but it does very little to make itself unique or memorable.

    • @BladeBlur
      @BladeBlur Před 8 lety +4

      +Clockwork Bard I did like the bosses on Busters Busts Loose too. The Dizzy Devil one was surprisingly neat for a first boss, and so was Melvin the Monster (another cool show reference), even though the Genesis game had Toxic Revenger. I do admire a lot of the creativity of Busts Loose, but I prefer the more solid experience of Hidden Treasure overall

      That was spot on. BBL was a superior game to BHT. And I was always a Sega fanboy. BBL was fun and unique--memorable stages (football game and spinning the wheel).

    Buster Busts Loose was a pretty memorable game for me on the SNES back in the day. But I do remember agonizing over those dash segments that required precision timing. Without infinite continues or password system on the harder difficulties, those sections did tend to grate on my nerves. Another thing I want to say about the gameplay for the Super Nintendo: The collectibles actually help you out more. They're more common, too. You can get stars by attacking an enemy. Allowing enemies to respawn would make you get more stars, because that's what I call a slow, but easy infinite 1UP trick (and yes, 100 stars gives you a 1UP).

    Saying Busts Loose is "flawed" while showing off how you miss the "JUMP" instructions and the guide stars...
    Then showing a "frustrating" scene of Hidden Treasure with blind jumping onto spikes...
    Doesn't add up, boys.

    I actually have a lot of nostalgia for the Sega Genesis game. It's one we used to play on our school's old computers!

    The SNES version should have won in the sound department! You ignored the musical hints that were lovingly incorporated in the soundtrack: the subtle, yet unmistakable nod to the Star Wars theme in the SciFi Stage BMG, the clear hints to the '60's song "Up, Up & Away" from the Fifth Dimension during the Balloon Stage, or the "Poet and the Peasant Overture" that plays during the Wild West stage.

    While I love both these games, I'd have to say Buster's Hidden Treasure is my favorite of the two. It may be due to my Sega bias, but it is a really well-done Sonic clone, and I'm glad to see it won this episode.
    I hope there's a part 2 someday with the two sports games: Wacky Sports Challenge and Acme All-Stars. I also hope there's an episode featuring both Sparkster games someday.
    Also, as long as there's no Call of Duty, I'm totally for a new Tiny Toon Adventures video game.

    Pretty big fan of both versions. Played both back in the day. Since I was more a Sega guy, I have more soft spot fondness for the Sega one. The dash in the SNES isn't too bad when you know the level design. And I liked that the dash is button pressed. I feel like in the Sega one I'm cautious half the time then wanting to dash. So I'll admitted the forced dash I don't quite like as much. But I do like how it's not limited. This was obviously tougher to decide which is better since there too good in there own right. Which also makes for good comedic moments.

    Hahahaha the salsa scene! Too good. Damn, I have both of these games but for some reason have never played either... I always play the NES games. Buster Busts Loose looks freakin' AMAZING! Holy crap, no joke, playing this tonight... I have no idea how I have ignored these two games for so long. Great review, but from the looks/sound of it, SNES wins by a landslide... minus the jumping thing lol. I like to go against the grain. You guys rule. I still say dungeon crawler comparison!

    Had the SNES game and enjoyed it quite much (even though if I recall correctly, you had to finish it on the hardest difficulty for the proper ending, Konami style.) :)
    You did hit the nail on the head with the dash sections, since those 2 shown were indeed some of the most annoying parts. :P

    never played the genesis version, but I did finish the SNES one as a kid. And you guys are right, the running stages were incredibly frustrating. The football stages too.
