Man that looks awesome
Thank you, there's that hesitation before any project because I don't want to screw it up. Afterwards it's a real sense of satisfaction. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Looks like a Hawkins
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment . My experience with Hawkins is they are shorter and the fore stock stopped about halfway up the barrel. But I'm any case, they are a blast to shoot .
This guy is fucking amazing
Thank You Axl, I greatly appreciate that compliment. You have made my year. I am getting this video thing slowly figured out. Merry Christmas.
I’m from West Virginia and just got a rifle like this and want it restored. Are you near West Virgina?
Sorry Dr Balance, this question didn't show up on my notices until now. I am in Indiana.. North East Indiana .

Do you know where I can buy a Kentucky 50 cal side lock percussion cap and ball barrel
Try Muzzle-Loaders.com. I found a couple of good deals this summer at gun shows. Most sites are sold out. Best of luck with your search.

I'm sorry, but I am absolutely buried in work. I do appreciate the offer.
My father found it in the 1930's

@@pauljordan2917 do it!!
Is that a Golcher, not a Holcher? If it is the gun could have been made anywhere from the 1840s up until 1900. The Golcher lock was a hardware item and the gun could have been made by any number of gunsmiths, anyone from a well known maker to the farmer down the road. Check under the barrel for the name ot the maker. If it has the tight name the gun could be valuable.
It's not worth the time and energy to do anything with it. Sorry, by that is the truth.
Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and commenting.. It is definitely not a collector piece, but I had little hesitation tearing into it because it wasn't expensive. I learned some things and didn't lose any fingers, it was a good day.
My humble opinion.....these CVA "Kentuckies" are not that bad, the profile is decent and they are longer than most cheaper muzzleloaders.
The worst part is the damn brass spacer they use, but that's part of the inexpensive nature. They make a good beginner's or youth rifle.
This guy had fun doing his. What's wrong with that?
I agree on the brass spacer, I have worked on 4 of these now and the spacer is always gapped. This gun allowed me to learn an incredible amount without destroying an expensive one. Thus, no divorce lawyer was involved. These projects fill a cold day and keep me out of the highway. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
It shoots and it looks good. If you find the accuracy is off, try a plastic patch. If you want the gun to look even better you might try using India ink to artificially stripe it and put a coat of shellac over. Good thing about projects like that is they're fun and you did a good job too.
I'm sorry for not responding sooner Larry. I got zero notifications you commented. Thank you for that great advice. The ink definitely intrigues me. They are a fun gun to shoot . Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
