just bought a muzzleloader that was covered in rust for 100 bucks along with some old books with it. said dixie gun works, made in italy. bought it in a garage sale from an old man.
Bought one of their Squirrel rifles in .40 Caliber in 1963. Still got it. Stock came in white and a sealer on it, I removed it and stained it walnut brown.
Bought my first pistol from these fine folks in 1968. That 1851 Colt Navy reproduction is still in my cabinet. I met Mr. Kirkland in 1972, and it was a memorable experience. A true southern gentleman indeed. DGW is an institution as well as a fine company.
I’m 67 now. My dad made 3 muzzle loaders in the 1960’s. He make a full size Kentucky rifle, a youth size Kentucky rifle (for me 11 at the time). And he made a Kentucky pistol. Ordering some parts from Dixie, and using some original pieces he found. Also a friend was a machinist and helped with some of the mounting of sights and some threading for screws. We shot those and a variety other muzzle loaders. We had a large catalog from Dixie and always enjoyed seeing the pictures. And went to many gun shows in Missouri and Illinois. I still have the youth rifle, it’s a 40cal cap percussion.
I used to get a Dixie Gun Works Catalog every year from a Man at the Gun Show . Then he stopped selling them . In the Early 70s it was our Bible when we started Hunting . No one to teach us about Muzzle loading other than The Bible . We burned a lot of Powder over the years and i ordered a bunch of stuff . Thanx for the video .
I got my first flint and steel kit when my dad and I stopped by there back in the late 90's. They got a striker and flint nodule out from the back and I picked a deer skin draw string pouch out of a box that was on the sales floor. I still have it today. GOD Bless you and your families

One of my prized coffee table books in the 1970s was a Dixie Gun Works catalogue that came with something I had ordered by mail....I'm a Canadian, and long before the internet , having that catalogue proved priceless..It was a thick book, and to-day I often wonder where it went as I still have many BP books from that time...Someone probably 'borrowed' it and it was never returned...I still 'cruise' Dixie on line....
i'm surprised there was no mention of the trapdoors they had stacked all over. i bought an original 1877 colt lightning storekeepers model that was 2 nd year of production in 1975 for $75.00. i stupidly traded it off. also in 1973 i bought a new colt saa 2 nd edition in .357 mag , i never shot it that way because dixie had colt barrels marked colt frontier six shooter and 44-40 cylinders i had the gun converted to 44-40 to match up with my winchester 73. dixie is a fantastic place .
Iv been buying from Dixie gun works since I 14 years old . Iv built several kits of guns an knives . I need a new catalog . I spent many hours at night just looking at what DGW was selling I hope the company is around in year 3,000 keep up the good work .

They had parts for my Grampa's (GGrampa's) Civil war, Manhatten revolver and from other parts built an 1880's 45-60 rifle. .Ive also made some jewelry from othere "materials" they have in inventory. You need to send for their catalog. its as good as the old Sears/Monky Ward Christmas books. LOL

When I was a kid, my Father worked with Euroarms of America and I had the opportunity to meet Turner Kirkland and he was a ginuinely nice guy, his step kids on the otherhand, my experience was a little different.
I started doing business with Dixie Gun Works around 1980 when my oldest daughter was born. I am still a customer and will be until the good Lord calls me home to meet Turner in person.
If you're into black powder fire arms then Dixie Gun Works is the place to go. I purchased some revolver kits from them in the past and I've been impressed since then. They're great weapons and they shoot straight I can tell you!! Right now I currently own 5 different revolvers (I call em wheel guns) and a left handed cap and ball rifle.

I wonder if Turner Kirkland ever met Jay Leno and compared their car collections. The first time I ordered anything from Dixie Gun Works, it was back when you had to fill out a paper order form and mail it in with your check. When I got the processed check back from my bank the endorsement on the back showed the name of the bank in which it was deposited: "Old and Third National Bank of Union City, Tennessee." I don't think that bank is still called that.
