The people that can afford these new electric trucks are not worried about gas prices. It’s just a status symbol

We need to make vehicles affordable again
I think Ford has a good idea with the Maverick. But, I wouldn't pay even Maverick pricing for this thing which will probably have the typical GM quality.
Affordable vehicles are out there, no one buys them...
@@matthewq4b yes but they are forcing us to buy EV's which seem to get more expensive not cheaper

Price is outrageous. It's the reason the car market is about to collapse....and we're here for it
That and the fact that every car company thinks people want to drive RC cars
You forget there are parallel economies and many people can easily afford, especially now that they aren't deprecating so much.
I’m with you!! Trucks is a tool for work!! No a luxury toy for showing off
@@Fsciabica76 It's both. I work with a lot of contractors. They work with them, and they also do unnecessary upgrades just to show off. Some people are all about practicality...most aren't in my experience.
@@Fsciabica76 People have started buy trucks so they can have some room for comfort. Cars have turned in to shoe boxes on wheels
I like the instrument panel better than the Hummer. I love the midgate pass thru. I have never liked the glass roof.
Getting a ridgeline/avalanche vibe from it. However it look pretty cool. Going to be very unattainable I'm sure.
I see that too but I also see a lot of Nikola Badger influence.
Definitely was going to say Ridgeline, especially the bed.
That’s the first thing I thought!
This isn’t a Sierra it’s a GMC ridgeline at least ford used a regular truck and electrified it
The Ridgeline the copy of the Chevy avalanche Design
What they need to do is build super cheap trucks with no bells and whistles that are customizable as you go because at this point you basically need a mortgage to purchase modern day trucks , the new stereotype is we work for the truck now , not the truck works for us 🎉
Except for the fact that the trucks with no bells or whistles are still too expensive and even if they were more affordable, no one ever buys them anyways. Nearly all new truck sales are for the top end trim levels.
So true, however the average pickup sold for over $61,000 in 2021. I only paid 24k after rebates for my last f-150 in late 2019.
I thought that was ridiculous tbh. Now anything under 50k is rare as unicorns tears for a full size truck. 😂
They make base models and they also have the ford maverick. Why are you looking at top level trim trucks if you cannot afford it?
They mostly all start off with the most expensive ones first, then bring it down.
You're all missing the point. Society is being re-engineered - you aren't supposed to be able to buy anything going forward.
The main headlights being so low looks *very* strange - but it will be excellent for other drivers. No more main headlights up so high that even with high-beams off the truck behind you in traffic is blinding you.
They designed the headlights to look like a question mark, to remind you to question what drunken stooper you were in when you bought 3000lbs of lithium batteries to lug around in place of a payload.
The problem its when the vehicle moves up and down headlights move more up and down too that people in front car will think they flashing the lights.. I know I own a Hyundai Palisade.. I have that problem.. also incoming traffic think I’m flashing the hedligjts
Isn't that why you buy a truck?
@@TexMex421 to piss off other drivers? It seems a lot of truck purchasers buy one for only that reason, yes.
Not really because of height. It’s the idiots who lift their trucks and don’t realign their headlights. Or put HID or LED bulbs in a reflector housing instead of projector.
This is the best looking EV truck so far. Unpopular opinion but I Love the 24s with the aggressive tires.
EVs lose noticeable battery range by switching to such an aggressive tire
They look good but aint good for offroad must have a good suspension because the less tire the rougher the ride
i agree about the look. fire
Not an unpopular opinion at all
the best think about this truck is mid-gate. such a nice feature for camping or hauling longer items. I am amazed that conventional trucks don't have it.
I agree. You can put 4x8 sheets in the bed and close the tailgate!
Old Chevy avalanches had em
Most trucks have the bed and cab separate instead of one piece like this, Avalanche, Silverado EV, and the Hummer EV.
Yea something about body on frame vs unibody, no?
Especially helpful hauling gravel
holy cow that's a nice design!
Great looking truck exteriorly. $107k for it is a bit pricey. I will stick with the 6.2L Denali.
What?! Don't you want to haul 3000lbs of batteries around, and roll the dice when the warranty expires? You would look so cool charging this 30m at a time every 100 miles trying to haul a trailer across the state.
6.6 D Max
@@andyh8239 I'll pass. If they make the Sierra, Denali Hybrid, I'll be interested.

Yup, glad I bought mine when they were affordable for the average person.
Average joes should drive a truck till it blows up. We turn ours over every 3 years because of the rate they gain miles. Be completely valueless in 5-6 years or down for work too often.
Or until our governments take them away, or will no longer allow us to register them.
I love that everybody and their momma is able to bring an EV pickup to the market meanwhile the cybertruck……insert cricket sound 😂
Most of the other EV trucks on the market are complete garbage including the giant plastic turd in the vid above. Ford/GMC EVs are plagued with software issues, horrible build quality and are insanely over priced. Rivian is the only manufacturer with a somewhat decent product and they can't even build half the amount of trucks that they forecasted. Elon could not care less about these vehicles as they are no competition to Tesla once his truck rolls out and will sell as many of the Cybertrucks as he can make.
@@markadler8968 I mean Tesla increased the price of all their vehicles by 10-15k in the last 1-2 years and the vehicles didn't even change... Plus people constantly complain about Tesla build quality. I'm sure the Ford and GMC EVs are fine enough especially as they make more and more of them over time. Tesla isn't going to come out the gate being able to produce hundreds of thousands of cybertrucks. It'll take months and maybe years to ramp up production. Either way more competition is better as it'll improve all products.

Yeah buy a diesel / petrol and in few years you won't be able to drive it because higher pollution taxation and expensive gas / diesel prices along with higher maintaining bills for parts & consumables (rubber belts, rubber hoses, oil, coolant, brake fluid, water pump, oil pump, fuel pump, fuel filter, oil filter, air-filter, cabin filter, spark-plugs, pulleys, o-rings springs & gaskets, bushes, joints & knukles, cables that can brake, ball-bearings, clutch disc, brake pads.. etc..) and on top pay the labor + service costs..
@@poplaurentiu4148 Isn't that funny how governents that are supposed to work for the people actively harm them by driving up fuel prices to push an angenda? Anything with a working batt will be parted out, leaving poor people boned. Public trans? When the $30,000 battery gives out from vibration, fatiuge, rust, etc, is it even safe to be parked near your home and family? Burn your property down? Bright future...
Great video guys! This is really cool to see. I’m sure this will be very limited availability and cater to a pretty niche market. I’d love to see a survey on current Sierra Denali owners that would make this their next truck.
I just bought a brand new 2023 Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate with the small duramax about a month ago. Love the truck so far, it's great for commuting and around town. I have a 2020 3500 dually I use for a work truck. Because I have a work truck for hauling my race car, small excavator, skid steer, and tractor I only need the other truck for around town and going to work (I work in an office during the week mostly) and I have actually found that I probably did not need a diesel half ton. My first thoughts were I should've just bought a Ford Lightning but after seeing this I might just trade in my currently Denali for this when it's available. I have solar panels covering my whole garage roof because I live in Maine and it's not uncommon for electricity to go out for 2-3 weeks in rural areas like where I live during a bad snow storm. With my power bank I could easily home charge an EV and still power my home as well. It wouldn't even come close to touching my electric output from my solar panels. I drive about 60 miles a day round trip for work and errands meaning I could drive all week without charging it considering it supposedly will have a 400 mile range. I'll wait and see them in person when they come out. I know the Ford Lightning was actually pretty impressive when I test drove one, I just did not like that the one I drove only had a 230 mile range when fully charged so i'd likely have to recharge it every couple days and I also often drive to New Hampshire which is a 240 mile round trip so i would have to recharge on the trip just to drive to my New Hampshire office and back a few times a month and that just sounds like a lot of hassle to me.
Beautiful rig, and nice walk thru Andre!!
Thanks guys keep up the great work
Nice!!! I like it better than the Silverado!
Good looking truck. Love the extra length, but I hope they come out with a 50k 4x4 version like the F-150 or Tesla. Not many people can afford that.

Thats what happens when you put 3000lbs of Lithium in a truck. Dumbest thing ever.
Ugly af. I hate EVs.
I agree there is no 50k Tesla, but they do advertise it that way, meaning you may get one for $60, which is still reasonable for a new truck

Good looking truck. Love the mid gate and can't wait until TFL gets their hands on one to test.
Hopefully they won’t have the same issue they had with their new $115,000 Hummer. Major software issue, unable to reboot, unable to place in Neutral & tow, unable to get to 12 volt battery to disconnect & stupid things they did to get going after disconnecting battery! Also On Star was useless! What a nightmare for such expensive vehicle’s!
I think it’s the nicest looking truck I’ve ever seen. Love the midgate (Avalanche style). I never understood why they stopped selling the Avalanche. Makes the Ford Lightning look even more boring than it already did. 100k is way too rich for my blood but the tech is amazing.

oh so $110k is ok lmfao
GM increased the interior room up front. The frunk will be smaller. GM is going a different route on battery tech. We have to hold our breath on such issue.
I haven’t had time to watch the whole video yet. Did the TFL crew tell us how “affordable” and what “value” we are getting out of this $100k truck?
I like the fact that it’s came with over 35.5’’ and 12.8’’ wide tire, the only difference is that you can not put the Hummer ev wheels on this because of hummer been 8 lugs. But down the road you could upgrade to a better off-road wheel and tire combination.
Smart move adding the high output 120/240 converter to where it can also power your house, which will come in handy for all the rolling blackouts the future holds for many areas. If you got that big of a battery hanging around the house, you might as well put it to good use for other things besides driving around.
Agreed. V2G (vehicle to grid) is the future of electric vehicle adoption with our current grid infrastructure. Using EVs as portable batteries for decentralized storage allows for a more economical use of the inconsistent electrical load that a community will have to face in the near future once everyone starts charging their cars at home after rush hour.
Hmmm. Captain Obvious here. If you use your vehicle to power your home; what are you using to charge your vehicle?.
Just like any other battery you use, you charge it back up when the power becomes available again.
Just like with a back up generator, you can fuel it up later when you are done using it.
Much less noisy than a back up generator too.
I have a similar setup for my Polaris Ranger EV, though it only has about 2 days of backup power for the house compared to this behemoth.
EVs: the cause of, and solution to, the problems of the future
Where are there going to be rolling blackouts?
My dad loves pick up trucks because we use it to ride our bikes. He loves the Silverado but this looks more manly than the Silverado EV
It also has a more manly price :).. ridiculous autos cost anymore..
It's cool. I like the mid-gate and could see that being pretty functional for something like a kayak, and not needing to having it hanging way out of the back of the truck. Of course, then you're cab is open to the elements, but just have to plan for that.
I know this is the tippy top of the line and all, but man $107K! That's wild!
i love the bed idea... could see my self gettin an elevation version of this in a couple years
There are Chevy Avalanches and Honda Ridglines with the same thing for a quarter the price.
looks impeccable, finally someone got the ev look right(for the truck segment)
I'm not really a fan of GM products but this is nice and Gmc Trucks are GM"s I like
The outside looks better than the Chevy EV but I don't like the big tablet looking screen in the middle. I prefer it more integrated into the dash, for example, the Ram 1500 big screen looks very nice because it doesn't look like an afterthought. Same with the guage cluster in this one. They look like they built the dash and then came back and stuck a rectangle little box above the steering wheel. Looks much better to me when it's all integrated.
24" rims is outrageous and does nothing to help tow or improve economy, and like you guys showed with the Defender you'll blow out tires on the trail
It’s pretty cool. Only concern is price at 107k I would expect more range and possibly more performance. It sounds like they are over pricing Rivian, but not matching their performance. 4.5 Seconds versus Rivian’s 3 second.
One of the biggest issues I had with the Avalanche was that the bed was so cramped. This bed is more like a regular pickup the way it goes beyond the wheel wells and the sail panels aren't nearly as intrusive. That's a big improvement. Hopefully they also fixed the Avalanche's tendency to leak at the midgate.
Being a Unibody, I wonder whay happens to the rear cab when you overload the bed. Looks like it will ruin the truck.
@@andyh8239 why would you over load your truck unibody or not you do know that's not a good thing right 🤔

Evalanche... actually they should try dual charging from two Chargers if they would be available on both sides of the vehicle
I'm curious if this particular Sierra EV has the same battery capacity as the current Hummer EV. Given it's a more aerodynamic two motor setup that most likely weighs less than the Hummer (though 24" wheels with Nitto all-terrains probably don't help) I wonder what it will do for range under load.
I have a question! Under extreme circumstances if need be can I put a Honda generator in the bed of the truck and charge while on driving for extra range... If so, how would that work and what extra distance could a 4500 w generator give me.... 🤔
I liked the silverado EV but the styling wasn't 100% for me but this truck is killing it. Loved the front end

Thats a great idea! Way better idea then actually driving it. If you drive it, be sure not to do truck things with it. I would be worried about overloading the unibody bed and damaging the rear cab. If you decide to trailer something like a boat, let me know how cool it looks charging every 100 miles assuming there are stations.
If you power your house, dont run it down too low, and get stranded.
GM is so out of touch... 2022 and no Plug in Hybrid even in the pipe. Wild....
Reminds me of the Honda Ridgeline or Chevy avalanche
Yep. Super gross. I appreciate the Lightning even more. If I wanted a truck that looks like an old Honda, I would buy an Avalanche.
@@josgovaars8899 the lighting is fine it’s just how you can’t tow anything without your range digging it’s own grave
@@dotcinematics truth. Glad range doesn't matter to me.
Looks a lot cooler than the Silverado EV
lol
Yeah, this truck looks badass, the Silverado EV looks hideous.
Gotta love the extension cord plugging the truck into the wall. I am guessing it is essentially a rolling chassis. No batteries or drive motors yet. To be expected with concept rigs. Makes you wonder what exactly they are quoting as specifications then. I still need a tow rig so am really hoping for the next gens HD Duramax to be utilizing Hydrogen similar to Cummins business plan. GMC definitely has it in the design department.
It was exactly the same when they first announced the Hummer EV. It was an extension cord to run the lights and screens. There is no battery or drive motors installed in that model.
I would like to know the affect of heating/cooling on the vehicle range….
Electric Avalanche, to be honest. And with a big sun roof to burn everyone inside when you are driving in the desert. I love it already. Can't wait to see the headaches this will cause.
I really like the Hummer EV and heavy duty Sierra MAGNA And no other EV vehicles caught my eye yet
What about rivian?
Nope not even a Porsche
I like how it dies in my driveway looks great
Am I missing something? Where is the front bumper and what protects the headlights from parking lot damage? If GM is going electric, their market is going to be very small at that price.
Yes, but does it have a plastic bin for a "cooler"like a Ford. Or a ruler print out on the tailgate. Or does it look like the neighbor's 2018 gas model?
Nice they made 3 trucks from same platform hummer this and Silverado and they all look the same and are 100k lol
The grille has a bit of Lordstown to it.
GMC always makes a nice looking truck and you did a amazing job showcasing the truck. Keep up the good work !
It's absolutely awesome I'd get one if I could but they will most likely not be available here in small town canada
Anyone know of a EV with a purchase price/monthly payment that is low enough to offset fuel cost?
I'd be a little more interested if the gas savings wasn't just rolled into a massive car payment
They don’t care about saving gas or the environment, they care about selling you a more expensive vehicle. Remember small and affordable sedans? Guess why they all go replaced with CUVs. Not because people weren’t buying, but because coming out with a CUV allowed them to jack the prices.
@@SuzukiKid400 I'm just sitting here waiting for my 2001 toyota 4runner to die but I guess it's still got a few 100k left before that happens.... 17mpg it is 🤣🤣
That’s probably the most durable midsize suv of the era. If I had one in good shape id be hunting a wrecked on to get a whole backup powertrain and drive it another 15+ years. By then any cars being sold after this ev war settled will surely be safe to switch to “for anything you used to do with gas cars”
@@ritewaywelding just get a hybrid car
Im getting one! Got my name on the list.
You must be really excited to drive it in 2028 with a $50k markup.
@@SuzukiKid400 huh?!
I might have missed it: how long is the truck overall? And is there some information, if it will be sold in Europe?
Did anyone notice the extension cord running to the truck under the bed? They would sell a lot of them if they had a conventional gas engine. Also this is definitely a warm weather truck!
Finally getting some range ❤
Range = Lithium = weight = cost = meh = parasitic loss amplified.
Can you imagine when the warranty runs out, and you back your boat into the water and the pack shorts out? (assuming you are close enough to a lake to make it with the boat in tow)
GM is so out of touch.
Is it limited to 106mph like the Hummer? More? Less? None at all?
What kind of recharging times would be expected?
Get me a hybrid that I can get 30-ish mpg, can tow and I can refuel traditionally - that would be ideal in my world
106? Driving out west you will get annoyed by that pretty quickly…
The Ford Powerboost and the Toyota i-Force Max trucks are the only hybrid trucks that I know of.
3.0 Duramax is your answer. 23 city/33 hwy for the 2WD version
The Hummer is only limited to that because of the off-road tires it comes with. This one I would expect to have road tires with a higher speed rating. That's all mandated by the DOT, not something GMC chose to do btw.
@@TheACCHRM but a 2WD truck is not a real truck
It would be nice to have an optional built-in gas or propane powered 50A/240V charger in the truck bed tool box.
Why did they go with the Honda ridgeline truck bed?
At least they finally got a shifter for a truck in the right place.
Old school column shifter?!?
