- The all-new electric truck from GMC was just revealed and Tim Esterdahl was one of the few who had a chance to see the 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 in person before the reveal. In this video, Tim speaks with the team behind this vehicle at an undisclosed location so that he can bring you all of the details! Should he cancel his deposit on the Silverado EV and go for a loaded Sierra EV instead? It's tempting!

GMC can take that 120k truck and shove it
It ain't gonna be stopped, they gotta go battery or they die
Exactly I hope they sell none prices of trucks are wayyyy to high
I guess they can count you out then ? 😂
@@beardlifeman those high priced models are what will enable them to create blue collar trucks cheap.
😂😂😂😭 for real
Great video Tim! Having said that, I wouldn't touch one of these things with a 10' pole. Don't get me wrong, it seems like it will be very competitive in the EV truck segment, I just have ZERO interest in the EV truck segment myself. I want a truck that can tow a few hundred miles between 3-4 minute fill-ups at the gas station, not one that can tow for 95 miles, then have to charge for 8 hours before going another 95 miles. I am sure a truck like this would be fine for going to Home Depot/Costco etc., maybe even driving to work looking 'cool', but I just don't care about those things, when I can't tow more than a few miles beyond my hometown. I'll take the 2024 Sierra HD instead, even loaded up, it will cost less than this EV truck and actually do everything I want it to do. I am not against EV's, but the only use I can see for it in my case, is just some sort of basic runabout/commuter car.
Most people who drive half ton trucks use them as you described. This has a lot of versatility for hauling sports equipment, etc. This particular version is expensive but they’ve packed a lot of features into it. I can tell you from personal experience having all four tires turn on a large vehicle is game changing. They can keep the crab walk try and EV one day you might like it but if you need a tow heavy loads hundreds of miles on a regular basis you should stick with a diesel.
I’d guess that 80-90% of the trucks i see on my commute are contractors who do as you describe - HD runs, short drives, no or small trailer (landscapers for instance). The lower trims seem like they’d be perfect for these folks. Yeah maybe they also want to tow 100’s of miles on the weekend too but for weekday work specifically, these EV trucks seem perfect. I know 4 contractors who worked on my house - this would easily suit their needs (especially with that range). For personal use, I’m with you - I’ll get an ICE because I want to go far with family and not worry about a dead battery in the middle of nowhere- taking care of the family is the higher priority.
@@gregoryf9299 Agreed that these trucks might work well for some in the contractor community, especially with the onboard 10k power available. Not sure how much higher the payloads go on the lower trim levels, but I think payload will be an issue for some, but certainly not all contractors.
The GM guy seemed to hint that towing would be higher in lower trims (that presumably have less stuff on them), so we can assume payloads will be higher too. Certainly what I see when I compare lower to higher trims in other trucks: the more fancy bits added obviously take away from max rated payload.

What a great review thank you. I'm ready to buy one right now. Bad ass truck. I don't care how much the MSRP is, I'll take it. 😎
RIP my Lightning, give me that AT4 !
This truck is pretty cool and innovative, too bad they priced it out of the average persons budget, I have no doubt only a very small amount of people will be buying this, can't wait to see Ram's EV Truck in a couple weeks
Interesting, but, did I hear 24 inch wheels? Snow country here in Ontario, Canada and cold weather battery loss is always a concern. Add useless wheel, tire sizes and I'll be keeping my Z71 Tahoe with 18 inch Wheels for a long time.
They have gone beyond losing their minds
I am a little bummed about the screen. Good on them to keep the buttons and putting the shifter on the column, but what I liked about the GM refreshed is how their screens integrated with the dash. This EV one is more like So many other manufacturers.
Hey Tim! Nice looking but I'm sure it's built as good as the EV Hummer at 107 G broke down !! RUN
One example is not a really large sample size…
Nice, now if they can just release the rest of the numbers for the LZ0 that would be great!
Remember that truck is greater than $100k. Insane, less than 1% of the population can afford this thing.
It’s suppose to be a hallo car, like the corvette, not meant to sell in great numbers….
So Raptors and other high-performance trucks are for the one percent as well? Because those are going for 90 to over $100,000.
I still can’t get my head around the differences between the base model vs Denali being 60K!!7
profit?
Good on ya for getting the early look, a nice indicator of your success and trust companies have in your channel! The truck looks good and I’m sure it’ll be good competition for the Lightning and Silverado. But …just too much $$$ still, alas!

By far - best looking pickup truck out there
I think the industry will hit the wall with all these EVs priced over $100,000 prices. We will see.
Ford Lightning had over 100.000 cancellations with the steep price hike. May have been a lot of spec buyers. Non refundable $5K deposit now required.
@@Dive-Bar-Casanova Ford just cut the price of the Ford Lightning by $6,000 - $10,000 today. Of course I bought my Lightning 3 months ago.... Anyhoo, Ford has no choice but to a) cut the price and lose more money on each unit and b) work really hard to figure out a way to build their Gen2 Lightning that comes out in 2025 a lot cheaper. If they can bring the price of a Lariat Lightning down from $80,000 to $62,000-$63,000, it will open up the list of potential buyers significantly.
Did you get any info on the audio system?
Nice truck. Can't wait until all manufacturers make work truck trim levels for the average worker without fleet ordering requirements. I need one truck for my business operations!
Yeah that’s ridiculous. Seems the vast majority of trucks I see in town are small contractors, so they have 1-2 trucks. This seems perfect for them (our contractor drove 15mi to our house then would dash to HD and back during the week- no need to tow 100’s of miles!)
These companies are loosing their minds !!! How many dam% people can write a check for 100k car? Where are we? This car leased will be 1200-1500 a month with 4K down, at least. I don’t get it.
Great video Tim. And a great looking truck. Beautiful and capable. I look forward to your driving interpretations. It's out of my price range so greatest interest is what does the $50k version of this truck look like? That's the one for me! What will the range be? What compromises from the Denali will need to occur to get it to $50k?
I expect the range to be half, probably vinyl seats, smaller rims with/ street tires, no pass through
I just wish they would make it $50k more expensive and add 1,000 miles range while towing. That plus 3 horns: Semi truck, mini beep, and normal horn. It should also be renamed to Canyonero.
How did I miss this video?
Good video. We’re on the Sierra EV Denali reservation list.
Northern winters the salt will eat all that fancy junk underneath that truck alive.
Nothing beats the sound of a v8 in the morning..
...and they sound pretty good in the evening too!
Can i use the Multi Pro Midgate when travelling in a snowstorm /Dusty gravel road/ bed full of junk or where temperatures are not at 70 degrees?
If you have a tonneau cover, yes. Not with tailgate down of course, but you can fit longer in it with the tailgate up.
@@craig8638 the tonneau cover on my Silverado let's tons of dust into the box, past the gaps in the tailgate.
Wish they would get an AT4 out first instead of the Denali
Thumbs up for the column shifter alone!
I have the Silverado work truck version and this thing is awesome but boy I miss the options I'm used to.
How much does it weight? And what happens to all the EV batteries when they go bad?
No one is talking about that part
I didn't get specs on weight. What happens when the EV batteries go bad? Simple, you buy a new vehicle as of right now. Battery costs are really high. That will change over time.
Now, how long will the battery last? That's all about how you treat it. Run it to empty, fill it up quickly then do that all over again? Yeah, you are going to cut years off the battery.
They recycle them. Just like they do to the millions of old aluminum and iron block engines in the world.
another 120k truck?
Can you imagine the cost of these vehicles if they actually could sell them to the masses. The thing is, they know they are limited to the number they can sell because they can't get enough batteries to actually produce the numbers for the masses. I'll do myself a favor and keep driving my PHEV and get the best of both worlds.
I'm very tempting to try to get the elevation version of this truck.
don't change buy both , sell the first when the second comes in
Beautiful Truck with awesome tech! However, as people are discovering with the F-150 Lightning, when towing 7500 pounds the range of the Lightning is a dismal 90 miles before needing a full charge!! Going to be awful for those wanting to tow a travel trailer on a road trip! Curious as to what this EV's range is with the same 7500 lb travel trailer???
Not amazing for towing distance. Towing is great overall, just not a lot of range. Think 80-100 miles.
THAT'S THE FORD LIGHTNING NOT THE GMC SIERRA EV
GM and EV sounds like a nightmare if you ask me. I’m worried about the refresh Denali 5.3 I have coming next week. They still haven’t got this lifter issue figured out on a number of gas engines and it’s been going on for years.
I think you be alright with the 5.3. I got 65,000 miles on my 2020 and no issues yet.
@@moldman3686 That's good to hear. How often are you changing your oil and what oil you using?
@@mikenb11_51 Yeah I've read a lot of what you're saying here. My truck actually is coming with DFM disabled from the factory due to chip shortage so that's a bonus.
@@marksullivan3424 That is COOL!!!!! I wouldn't worry about the lifters at all then, you are GOLDEN! I have had two 5.3's myself, and they have been flawless. I think the big trouble for the lifters was maybe around late 2020 for a couple of months, then back from around 2007-2010, when they also had related problems with burning oil.
GM makes great ev’s. Wish I would have kept my 2017 Volt
This is basically the same price as the EV Hummer. I get that the EV models are the shiny new toys in the play room, but you would think that the cost savings of not putting in a gas motor would save a heck of a lot more money.
Battery pack for the 400 mile version will probably be the same as the Hummer EV ( 212kw). Batteries is the most expensive part of an EV much more than a traditional drive train
What is wrong with these auto makers even if it was only 50 k that’s almost a 1,000 dollar payment a month..
That thing looks pretty sick. Steep price of course, but isn't everything these days. Will be interesting to see if these are actually 400 miles of range and what a "well equipped" AT4 will cost. My guess is you won't see too many of the $50k versions until 2026!
and by then it will be 70k
The only reason I can see someone spending over 100k on one of these is because they are an electric fanboy. Anyone looking to do truck stuff and spend that much money is more likely to buy a 3/4 ton that is bigger and better equipped with a gas or diesel engine for less money.
Did I miss where GMC Disclosed how far This EV Pitch Em Up will tow A 9,000# Camper on A Charge? How far over 120 miles is that Figure?
They maintain the range loss is similar to a gasoline truck.
I see alot of rock chips on the front in the future on this. Nice looking overall
What equipment does one need to connect truck to home?
Simple. 220 volt plug with 60 amp breaker and an EV charging cord.
Tim can you re-upload this as it keeps pausing can’t get a direct video
So.... a rebranded Avalanche with a political theater power train for 100k plus..... No thanks, hard pass.
great looking truck but being in Canada and the price they will be charging i will pay my mortgage off before i paid for this truck!
A lot of people buying this ? We’re not all journalist. Nice truck great video.
Hey. I heard that GMC is cutting Apple Car Play from their EVs. Will the Edition 1 be effected?
Good question. It seems like it would be based on that announcement.
You can only hope that range doesn't drop on half at 32% like the Ford Lightening.
My Silverado EV work truck has 450 mi of range and I would really like not lose that 50 mi and don't understand the loss of 50 miles range to upgrade trim. I wonder if most of that is the wheel....
Features add weight and weight reduces range.
Might work if it was hybrid.
$107,000!!??? Have they lost their minds? How is going EV the cheaper option?
Who said EVs would be a cheaper option?
$110K for this truck ? Come on GMC are you serious? Ford Shelby truck same price tag. And I guess much more fun.
The costs are out of control.
Wow 35” tires. Shocked. 107k is not attainable for most. I built a loaded at4 in 21. 64k. Now 3 years later 107 cmon gm. I would assume a loaded at4 ev will be 90k. Priced me right out of it.
Looks good, I’ll wait till they start making these things affordable and uhh…we get some sort of infrastructure.
How many Edition 1 are they making??
They don't publish that information.
It's a beautiful truck but it won't be in my driveway that's for sure my house cost 105 thousand dollars but it is a beautiful truck
I will sick with my 2020 SLT Texas Edition with only 3800 hundred miles.
Every criticism here is from people who can't afford it. That's not GM's problem.
Is the bed metal or that carbon composite?
Doesnt sound like he mentioned the Carbon Pro material. Saw a Hummer EV article on GM Authority saying that model was just stamped steel, so I'm presuming this is as well just with a bed liner over it.
Will the next Gen Silverado/ Sierra gas version look similar to this??? Im thinking of buying a 2024 high country 6.2L but if the new Gen is coming out in 2025 I rather wait.
Very doubtful. EVs can be designed to look differently than a gas truck thanks to having a battery.
Not a fan of GM but sharp looking truck the features it has will be the standard in 2024. Ford needs to step up their game
Got 3 ev hummers sitn on my local dealers lot in Alberta.
All for 149k each. Anyone want an over priced flash light
Costs way more per mile than gas
WRONG! YOU FAILED MATH CLASS
@@bobhirdes6725 oh really? How far can that electric pos pull a loaded trailer on a charge? Not half as far as my gas engine

The price of these vehicle is insane. Every up-trimmed full sized SUV approaches or exceeds the six figure mark, and utilitarian pick-up trucks with options are now approaching or exceeding 80k. It is apparent that the supply issues with new vehicles are no longer the result of shortages in parts and sensors, but a conspiracy and strategy by manufacturers to game the Supply and Demand dynamics by limiting production of in-demand models, so that demand far out-paces supply, resulting in the MSRP's and prices the dealer can charge going up, up, and way. It is clear that manufactures plan to build primarily the models and trim leveled vehicles that are most expensive, while limiting supply of those up-trimmed models, yielding their greatest margins of profit, and they figure customers interested in the cheaper trim level can look to the used car/truck market, that has been reported in several industry-trade journals. These EV pick-ups are not work-trucks, they are a statement vehicle, for someone-to show-off in and that is about it. They lack real-work utility or practicality to date, because their range is so limited. You cannot take them on long intra or inter state travels without having to plan lengthy interruptions in travel to re-charge the vehicles wherever recharging facilities can be located (not cheap to recharge these vehicles away from your home), and the range of all these EV trucks drops to a pathetic level when towing. Get stuck in heavy traffic when towing, and you beginning sweating it that you will be left stranded on the road, as I observe several Tesla vehicles stranded every week on route I-87 or I-287 in the North East in my travels
I haven't been keeping up with all your videos but I thought your next truck was going to rotate to a Dodge?
Way too expensive. Not to mention the EV Hummer has had its issues too, won’t expect much from this.

How far can it go on a full charge
400 miles
My design oriented brain will never understand square wheel wells.
One point Ive never heard, but that I love, is when you buy a USA EV they are expensive but no gas for life, so the money you're "saving" on Saudi oil is going to USA manufacturing 💪
What "Saudi oil",USA doesn't import oil? And how do you produce "fuel" for your EV,unicorn tears?
Definitely a working man's truck............
Right after I light my cigar with another hundred dollar bill, there's nothing like getting in my electric GMC!
Same running gear as the Silerado EV and same shape of course.
Why not making a seven seater with 400 miles range at the same time of the pick up?
Supply likely.
Yes they're all short on batteries.
It look sick
Nice Truck... Just like the other EV trucks, the pricing is out to lunch. There is no way we are going to spend the kind of money these guys want on these supposed work trucks. After the initial cool factor sales to the rich, these will sit on the lots just like all the Ford Lightnings are now. There was a huge price adjustment when they were supposedly short of chips, now there needs to be a huge correction the other way. Both ICE and EV trucks need a minimum 20k drop across the board.
Hummer EV can't drive thru car wash due to water leak into battery compartment - this design flaw triggered a recall, and I then cancelled my reservation since software is buggy resulting in Hummer locking up on street
Great report..thanks..but not for me..especially 109k?..really!?.....the common person can never afford or even want...keep the reporting comming...
No way I’d waste my money on any pick up appliance. Maybe 10 years from now when the tech is better, but no way would I over pay for something that will just give me anxiety every time I drive it outside my neighborhood. Never mind trailering anything. I would do a plug in hybrid if there’s a decent lease, tho any of these are horrible for the environment
Pretty truck pretty price going to have to go to school to drive it !
It’s a great looking truck very pricey but Ford is just as pricey especially here in California the average F150 lightning sells for $109,000 on top of dealer markup in California specially my city Concord California The GMC Denali edition one I really like it I drive a 2016 Denali and I love it mine is the gas mileage 5.3 motor I wish Gmc/Chevrolet would come out with a hybrid truck I know everybody’s into the EV. But Ford F150 hybrids are super scarce here and they average $95,000 I found one used one with 17,000 miles and it was still 77,000 with all the taxes and all the BS in California the average person who loves trucks and only buys trucks like me have a very hard time to buy one
Diesel Hybrid for the win ,even Toyota knows pure electric is not the answer .
it better come with an option to fill the bed with batteries so we can tow.
Ev’s WILL fail if they keep releasing them with these asinine prices. If the manufacturers are going to force these down our throats they might want to think about getting a handle on the price. I mean really, who’s going to pay more for a truck that instantly depreciates and costs more than a house.
Start by selling to rich people and move down market.
People use to say the same thing about the Tesla Model S, then it helped pay for the development of the Model 3 ($40k)
Moral of the story, convince your rich friends to buy it ;)
@@cybertrk haha I don’t have any rich friends. Gonna have to stick to the poor ones
@@cybertrk I see what you're saying, but the higher demand of everyone going electric is causing ALL raw material prices to rise. So the cheapest tesla is 48,400🤑 since they found chips with little problems they will just make thier own raw materials lol, everyone else will probably stay higher.
@@cybertrk correct, it’s a hallo vehicle for gmc
Nice ,BUT would love to have a gas model over EV.
Looks pretty cool. As stated many times, it’s not for everyone. Interesting they gave shortened shifter all trucks should have. Out of the way
We have tougher emissions here in the states . That being said trees Through a process called photosynthesis, leaves pull in carbon dioxide and water and use the energy of the sun to convert this into chemical compounds such as sugars that feed the tree. But as a by-product of that chemical reaction oxygen is produced and released by the tree. So now that more people buy EV now the power company will need to build more power plants or solar- wind mill farms just to keep up the demand for power . Now the power company will just raise their rates, and past the cost to the consumer . So then now the cost to charge your EV will be doubled or tripled.
For $107,000 do you get a spare tire unlike the hummer?
I thought I saw one.

@@frankkeel8410 ... probably so. The new model for all car manufacturing is let the customer find the bugs...and try and correct. Been like this for 10 or 15+ years now.

My thoughts: Oversized, very expensive, Ridgeline with less range than a Ridgeline.
$110K plus and no rear entertainment??
Though this GMC is bad ass, I still love my chevies
Why would anyone buy a truck you can't tow anything more than 100 miles?? Waste of money!!
They didn’t consider safety with the cargo going through the rear seat in case of an accident 😮
Interesting question and one I had to look up. There are recycling centers for EV batteries coming.
There very few people who could afford these when time to replace battery ur looking at least 20.000
The company won’t be around by the time the batteries wear out. 😏
Aerodynamics are not all there. They could have lowered the front a bit.
I can’t be the only one getting pretty sick of these super luxury trucks “not a dig at you at all” This is about manufacturers glorifying their 6 digit trucks. The 24 2500hd I was all about. Unfortunately they don’t show the LT, the most bought trim they sell.
Hallo vehicle for gmc, it’s alright
Give me a manual transmission, manual locking hubs , and a v8 without cylinder deactivation
My new prediction going EV to soon puts GM out of business. I’m only now warming up to hybrids.
Tim why didn’t you ask him, what drives the cost to exceed $100K? That’s 10% of a million dollars, it’s still just a damn p/u truck. Maybe it’s just me but I don’t think so.
You’re paying a premium to finance the development of the working class truck that’s down market from this.
They’re using the Tesla playbook
Local GMC dealer is asking $91,000 plus for Denali 3500s. What’s the difference? Even though the price of this thing is insane, it’s loaded with features. I can tell you from experience four wheel steering is a game changer in a large vehicle. If you had a regular Denali with all the features this thing has, and was as quick, it would be over $100,000.
As always Great video Tim. I think GM did a great job on the styling of this truck. It is sharp looking. It will be interesting to see what kind of quality these ev trucks have.
