- Day 17 thru hiking the Oregon Desert Trail. After leaving camp at Vee Lake, it's an off trail hike to the top of Abert Rim. The views here are stunning! Hiking the edge of Abert Rim was the highlight of the ODT so far for me. Then the rainstorms hit. Several bouts of storm clouds and rain hit throughout the day. We find camp in Miner's Draw after a long 27 mile day.

As treacherous as it is to traverse old lava flows, those views sure seemed worth it. Gorgeous country!
In this case, yes definitely worth it! Some of the highlights off the ODT for me
I always enjoy when you do rim walks. I'm just sorry the ground was so strewn with rocks making it difficult to traverse. The footage was magnificent. Thanks for sharing Eric.
Nothing beats a goo ridge/rim walk. This is classic terrain that looks easy on the satellite... clear of brush, looks flat... just can't see those rocks!
Wow! Those cliffs look like a mixture of the Mogollon Rim and the White Ciiffs of Dover.
Battery and electrical setup is working excellent. 200w is perfect pair with the 100ah battery. I can get probably 65% or more charged in one day here in the Arizona desert, which is way more than I use in one day.
I love this video. Years ago coming home from Reno back to Eugene I decided to skip going thru Klamath falls as that was our normal way and went up 395 to 31 to 97. Just south of Abert lake and I saw that plateau and it was a sight to see looking up. Now seeing it from the top looking down. Well definetly on the list
Now I'd like to see it from below to get the opposite view! Abert Rim is awesome, one of the highlights of the ODT really, and especially the first half of the hike.
This is gorgeous upload my friend, editing and shots are fantastically executed here.
Thank you for watching :)
Abert Rim looked a lot like Northern New Mexico! Just incredible topography and scenery!
Stoked for a new video!
That was some great scenery! Good stuff.
Beautiful! Near where I grew up so I love seeing it.
this reminds me of those structures in venezuela
We pronounced Abert with a long A!
Just finished watching you pack your exos 58. Do you continue to use the same bag after 5 years ?
No, haven't used the exos since 2019. I've been using a zpacks arc haul ever since
Can you put up a map of the route you took?
Any ticks?
I only got like 2-3 ticks on the ODT. The only one I can remember off the top of my head was after Hart Mountain, on the way into Frenchglen. I was expecting more because it was a wet spring, but maybe it was still too cold? Dunno
What were the lowest temps you saw this section?
Hmm, trying to remember... Maybe low 30s at night (this night)
