ODT Day 31: Trout Creek Mountains (Oregon Desert Trail Thru Hike 2022 Vlog)

- Day 31 thru hiking the Oregon Desert Trail. Today's hike will traverses FIVE Wilderness Study Areas as we hike through the heart of the Trout Creek Mountains. The hike begins with a hike up along Big Trout Creek. Here, the route straddles both the Disaster Peak WSA and the Mahogany Ridge WSA. Trout Creek is flowing strong, but it's an easy ford. Next the route climbs up to over 8100ft, the second highest point along the ODT. Here, the Steens Mountains can be seen on the horizon. Next, the trail straddles the Disaster Peak WSA and Willow Creek WSA. This is where the scenery started to get good for me in the Trout Creek Mountains. Near Chicken Spring is where the route enters the Fifteen Mile Creek WSA and Oregon Canyon WSA. After a few miles of cow infested lands, the route climbs up to the edge of the Oregon Canyon Mountains and there's a massive view. It's short lived, and I head to Beaver Log Spring to camp for the night. A big rainstorm is coming tonight!

Beautiful remote wilderness out back Oregon.đ€đ„č
Soaring with you across the highlands. The Wind is our friend...! Meeting the local folks out for rides was very special. Good fortune - happy family. Amazing sunset at that last spring and camp.
Red sky at night, sailor's delight... but not this time... it was quite the rain storm!
This is brilliant bud, fantastic filming and storytelling! đŹđ„
Thank you!
There is a way to use the cheater bar on the gate that actually makes it easier to shut that without the leverage. The Arizona Trail has the best gates Iâve ever encountered-no cheater bars needed!
I just hiked the Mogollon Rim Trail (briefly overlaps with the AZT) and all of the gates were designed so much better than these. Every other state/trail does gates better than Oregon!
I like your videos and especially the scenery of Eastern Oregon. After seeing how many places you have hiked, it's hard to believe that you don't know how to close a gate with a cheater bar. Must be a lot of unhappy ranchers in your past. I'm a bit jealous of your adventures. How does a person have so much spare time?
Trout creek mountain, one of most coveted deer tags you could get in Oregon takes you around 10 years of putting in every year before you get one that means 10 years of not getting a deer tag for eastern Oregon
Dang, didn't realize it was eastern Oregon's deer mecca!
Some truly epic views and sights!! Just an incredible adventure! I love your videos!!
Thank you, as always :)
Great video but .. look at that fence latch again ...
Really awesome video once again! Noticed you using some post rock music in your videos. As not only a hiking lover but also a post rock lover, I was wondering what band this is?
Thanks, glad you are digging it! I used envato elements for my music and licensing. This video has separate tracks, I've copy/pasted the tracklist for this episode below. Thanks for watching!
0:20 BrownHouseMedia - Mountain Peaks
2:31 Ambient Calm Timelapse Background
5:35 TheStoryShop - Sky Full of Explosions
9:45 BrownHouseMedia - Driven to Succeed
@@SeekingLost shouldâve realized that sky full of explosions was an easy bond to explosions in the sky đ
I get what you are saying about bad ettiguete camping by a spring but seeing as you are pretty much only one on trail at this section Id say its a minor infraction and gotta do what you gotta do to be safe
It's not a good idea to camp near water in the desert, as it deters wildlife/increases nighttime encounters. I just wanted to make a point to mention it's not proper etiquette, for those who are unaware. I would do it again in a heartbeat, given the circumstances. In the next episode, you'll see I made the right call!
@@SeekingLost thanks for clarifying that! I didn't know why it was bad etiquette.
Don't care to see people smacking on chips
