  • Day 43 thru hiking the Oregon Desert Trail. Last day on trail, and excitement is in the air. Excellent hike this morning out of Three Fingers Gulch and Long Gulch as we continue hiking through the Honeycombs Wilderness Study Area. We cross over a ridge and into Carlton Canyon, then up the awesome Painted Canyon. There's some fun scrambles at the end of this canyon, something we haven't done much of on the ODT. Next we climb up to Sheephead Ridge drop down to Rookie Canyon Spring and enter cow country for the last time. We leave the Honeycombs Wilderness behind and hike Owyhee Ridge over to Birch Creek. This is the final descent now to Lake Owyhee and the finish line. I can see the rocks jetting out into the lake from above, and they are glorious. The sun is shining and the backdrop is just perfect for our Oregon Desert Trail finish. Donny and I celebrate here, enjoy our last moments on the ODT and get a lift into town... BIG THANKS Sammy at Friends of the Owyhee for the ride, and to ONDA for all they do to support this route and all those who hike it. Thanks for watching the series, it's been another wild thru-hiking adventure!

    Well done. I thoroughly enjoyed your travels to many places in Oregon that I visited over the past 50+ years.
    You truly captured the essence of Oregon and why I continue to call it home.
    This closing episode made my day.

    Excellent series. I watched many episodes more than once.
    I really appreciate all the time you put into filming... and all the extra miles it took to film yourself. And good editing too. Well done.

    Thank you once again for sharing this incredible journey that few people will ever experience. Your last videos of the Owyhee were an awesome way to end this journey. I’ve got the are notes down for if I’m ever back in the US again. On the other hand: can’t help but wonder what the canyon might’ve looked like without the reservoir and feel a little sadness because of it.
    Looking forwards to your next adventures!

      Thanks for watching! The end here at Lake Owyhee was excellent, and beautiful day for it! I always wonder that too, what some of these canyons would look like before they were dammed up. Lake Powell is interesting right now because it's dropped so much that many of the canyons that were underwater after it was dammed are now hikeable again, due to the water levels dropping. Fascinating.

    What an incredible hike! I definitely have learned to appreciate the State of Oregon through these videos! I found your channel because of your original CDT hike, a few years ago. That was an incredible series of videos that I always enjoy. This Oregon hike was just as memorable! Congratulations on an incredible journey!

      Thank you for watching, for all these years! Oregon has so much long distance hiking potential. Several new routes being created there, like the Blue Mountains Trail. It's a wild place.

    Congratulations. What an awesome trip. And such diversity is such a short span. Also you showed what hiking is truely about and how hikers are a different breed. The fact you found Heavy Teva and Donnie on trail and then you hiked together.

    Congratulations to you both! I was thinking maybe I can just do a section in the Owyhee and then you had to go and climb a bunch of pour-offs and I'm too old, short and scared of that kind of stuff. I enjoyed this series. The ODT is really interesting.

    • @SeekingLost
      @SeekingLost  Pƙed rokem

      The only pour offs I can remember were near the upper end of Painted Canyon. There are plenty of other great areas in the Owyhees to hike without the pour offs, too. Don't miss the Owyhees, any way you can experience them will be profound, I'm sure. Thanks for watching!

      It was definitely brutal, but also redefined my definition of "what's possible". The BRT left me with an immense sense of accomplishment, and the feeling that we can do anything if we put our mind to it!
