- Day 38 thru hiking the Oregon Desert Trail. Today's hike is almost entirely along the rim of Owyhee Canyon. It's a massive, striking canyon that inspires wonder. I'm up here, but what's it like down there? The route veers away from the canyon's edge and into a vast open sea of green grass in the Oregon Canyon Wilderness Study Area. The route swings back to overlook Owyhee Canyon, and I walk into Rome Station to resupply.

Wow, this looks simply unreal my friend. Views are simply outstanding!
I've always wished I could sit on the edge of a canyon like that & wind the clock backwards - lava flow, watch the canyon form, natives hunt... Amazing the amount of lava that made all that flatland.
Thank you for sharing this adventure. I’m planning an ODT thru hike in the next couple years. The lack of thousands of other hikers is appealing.
You will definitely find the solitude you seek on the ODT! Enjoy your time out here, when it's your time to hike it
What an adventure man that canyon must have been a treat to stare at all day! 😃
Especially on a nice day like this, after that cloudy and windy day yesterday. Today was a good hike!
Your rim hikes are always so inspiring Eric. Nice to know there are still some unspoiled remote areas in this country. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! Nothing beats a good rim hike, walking for miles with a big view!
That looks like a killer river to paddle. Kayaking or canoeing through that canyon would be pretty epic.
Agreed!
Outrageously beautiful country. What happened to Donny-did the crickets eat him? 🦗
Haha yep! We just had different route plans and goals for this section and ended up not seeing each other on this one.
That looked beautiful! That's a pretty impressive view from the rim. I need to spend more time in that area. Too bad you didn't get that well deserved burger.
I think we could all use more Owyhee time!
4:54 What a great shot of the canyon!
Rome is the put-in location for rafting the lower Owyhee.
That's what she said
That grassland almost doesnt even look real! Looks like a loading screen for a computer haha.
That's EXACTLY what I was thinking! The grass seemed to breathe with the wind. It was a cool experience
Are you going to see if you can create a route in the Owyhee canyon?
I think you'd need a packraft for that! Renee Patrick has probably done it
There's chukar in then there hills
Hey brother iam interested in the area around the diablo rim, do you have anything on that area in terms of video
Sure do, check out ODT episode 10, lots of great footage from the crest of diablo rim. Great views!
