here we go again! probably proposes more questions than answers but here’s a chat and a dissection of the recent updates. do we keep revising? predicted grades? teacher assessment?
Update: my sixth form emailed saying we have to complete mock exams in timed conditions at home to submit to possibly be used as ‘evidence’. But after that is done then no I will not be revising further. Unless I truly get awful grades in July.
a little more optimistic than my previous video buttt we all could end up disappointed in July then have re takes so this could be a premature celebration aha

The last day was just surreal.
Teachers crying, seeing people for the last time etc. Keeping up with the social distancing we didn't get to have a big celebration/party, so it just sort of ended.

I feel like it’s a lot worse for year 13 students than year 11 students. Year 11 can still get into sixth form but it’s hard getting into uni. Plus year 13s went through the whole ucas process and it was tough. So it’s just more emotionally and mentally draining for us A-level students rn

    • @MeganMahoney1
      @MeganMahoney1  Před 4 lety +6

yeah that's true, I have never really heard of anyone ever being turned away from sixth form before. ugh yeah the thought of having to do ucas all over again really no thank you! guess everyone has it hard, though feel like as I'm just that little bit older I can deal with the stress more. I don't live in the UK but over in Ireland I'm supposed to have my Leaving Cert in June (which is basically the Irish A-Levels). They haven't been cancelled as of yet. So far we've heard that the Department of Education might cancel the Junior Cert (like Irish GSCEs) to prioritise the Leaving Cert so that third-level entry doesn't have to be delayed.
I wonder what sort of plan they might come up with, but things are looking pretty bad. We may end up having to do the whole 'predicted grade' thing here to; which I'm honestly nervous of.
Generally you go up a lot of grades (from studying more and finishing the course) from the mocks to the real thing and I wouldn't like to be judged based on mocks. :(
But at the moment, I'm just studying at home.

Hello, Megan I haven’t watched the video yet so sorry if you’ve already answered this but what would be your advice for any AS level students right now? I still do have to carry on with the curriculum via emails and PowerPoint notes, however should I take it at a slower pace as I will not be sitting exams at the end of the year, and That I have an option to sit the exams the beginning of be academic year? Also, although AS level e and have been cancelled, there isn’t a guarantee we won’t be returning back to school score the end of the academic year. What do you think i should do as I’m in a bit of a sticky situations as my predicted grades are getting dragged into all this mess😭?

that does sound like a complete mare, I didn't even realise they still did AS! is there any chance you can email your head of year or a teacher or something? and see what your mates in your classes are doing too? continuing the curriculum from home must be so difficult so try not to put yourself under too much pressure. sorry I do not know much about AS and I don't cover it in the video no, hopefully everything gets sorted for you! x

These will be awarded using the same principles as the UK GCSE and GCE A Level which will not have exams in any country in May/June 2020. @MeganMahoney1  Před 4 lety

ofqual, the exams watchdog, said this:
We know that private candidates are anxious to know how these arrangements apply
to them. Where centres have accepted entries from private candidates (students
who they have not taught themselves, because they have been home-schooled,
following distance-learning programmes or studying independently) those students
should be included where the Head of Centre is confident that they and their staff
have seen sufficient evidence of the student’s achievement to make an objective
judgement. We are urgently exploring whether there are alternative options for those
students who do not have an existing relationship with a centre and who need results
this summer for progression purposes but unfortunately this is unlikely to be possible
for all external candidates, some of whom may instead need to take exams in the
      autumn to get their grades.
We appreciate that this is a matter of real concern to private candidates and will
provide an update as soon as possible. We have asked organisations that represent
higher and further education providers to consider the steps that providers could take
when making admissions decisions this summer for any private candidates who do
not receive a grade. They have told us that they believe that institutions will consider
a range of other evidence and information for these students to allow them to
      progress wherever possible.

@@duam7860 That sounds pretty fun in comparison to my leavers' day for Year 11. We had no assembly, our school told us not to sign shirts but we did it anyway and we weren't allowed to go into any class room except for our form rooms so I couldn't take photos with friends from my year, which I might never see again. Also, I couldn't go to see my favourite teachers. My last day also finished early at 10:30 AM so I only spent two hours with my friends. Also, prom has been cancelled so there really is going to be no proper goodbye.
My school started doing hoodie orders on our last day so I will probably get mine in the post with my yearbook. 😂
Do you think that we will get our results online or at our schools?

    SO DO WE REVISE????

    • @MeganMahoney1
      @MeganMahoney1  Před 4 lety

I’m revising because I have to submit my mock exams, that were meant to take place today so teachers have some ‘evidence’ of my performance. But after the coursework and mocks are emailed then no I’m not going to revise. See what your school say perhaps :)
