ive been in year 12 for 4 days. i hate it. i only like geography but i dont like the class as i dont know ANYONE and im the biggest introvert... i do hope it gets better though
ahaha what a mood. I'm sure you will get to know everyone in your class soon and if you have any group work or field trips then that will definitely help with making friends. And even if not, at the end of the day you are there to learn so at least you will be productive in your lessons. Chin up though it will get better xx

4:55 this is such a relief for me! i rlly wanted to do psychology but to go to the sixth form i wanted you needed 77 in cs and i got 66 so i had to do history instead. your experience has made me feel so much better about dropping psych because as much as i wanted to do it i rlly wanted to go to my school more. thanks and good luck in yr 2 at uni!

I totally understand that mess up becoming a positive thing! I was gonna take DT for GCSE but changed to Latin last minute, and I put it down last minute for A-level too, which is lucky cos I've decided I don't want to do one of my other choices :)

That’s so funny, I was in a similar situation to you! I was not going to take geography for GCSE and instead do religious studies, but then I changed to geography at the last minute! I adored geography GCSE and now I’m doing geography a level and I’m going to apply to study geography at university next academic year!
Nah way I’ve never heard of anyone be in the same mess ahaha wow!! What unis are you looking at? What sort of things are gonna be on your personal statement? We’re in this together now!! :)

I’m applying to courses where there’s a mixed human and physical geography component where you don’t need to specialise from the first year as I like both human and physical. So I’m applying to Durham, Edinburgh, Bristol and Cambridge. I wouldn’t be disappointed if I don’t get into Cambridge though as it’s extremely rigorous and competitive.
With regards to my personal statement, I’ve attended so many lectures and masterclasses so I’ve talked about some of those and what I found interesting about them. I’ve read “An introduction into geopolitics” by Klauss Dodds and I’ve mentioned my favourite chapters. I’m a student member of the Royal Geographical Society, I’m a member of my school Eco club, I adore watching Wendover Productions on you tube who makes a lot of geography and economics/ logistics videos, I volunteer at my local food bank and do a river cleanup each month, I have so much to talk about! I’m currently working on my fourth draft and I’m trying to find the balance between quantity and depth in what I talk about.

Deggs yes I get you there, most the courses I’m applying to are mixed in the first year too! Ooh snap I’m applying to bristol and maybe Cambridge too although yes the competition for Cambridge is a bit off putting. Ah wow sounds like you have it nailed, them unis will be begging to take you! That book sounds interesting too. Mine is inadequate in comparison to be completely honest ahaha. I did a summer school, talked about a book called ‘prisoners of geography’ by Tim Marshall (great read), Stacey Dooley’s documentary about the fast fashion industry, I did a MOOC about the sustainable development goals, the EPQ, duke of Edinburgh and volunteering I do :) keep me updated on how it’s all going!

I’m starting year 12 on Friday at a new sixth form which is so much bigger compared to my school’s sixth form but I’m excited, I’ve been talking to a few people I met on the open days and through Instagram which is nice! I’m doing bio, chem maths and french.. 4 ik probs will end up regretting it but I’m just so indecisive lmao😂I’m going to try stick at it but if it gets a bit much I’ll drop french or maths. A fun fact about me I was born in ghana but moved here when I was 4 and my left leg is 2 inches shorter than my right leg because of my scoliosis ahahah❤️

ok ok ah yeah I bet, so many new faces to learn and information thrown at you! You probably have a while to figure out what you want to do it on so try not to worry too much now. Sure when I film that video I’ll bear this in mind xx

I start year 12 Thursday I’m doing a diploma in health and social care and btec creative media, everyone’s saying they don’t really go well together but it’s because I genuinely don’t know what I want to be xx
ah good luck, hope you have a good first day!! They sound interesting and nah it don’t matter what others think, as long as you’re going to enjoy the subjects then you will do well in them. That’s all you need is to do well so then you can apply to uni or apprenticeship or a job or whatever like as long as they’re a good fit for you then other people’s opinion is super irrelevant xx

Good luck girl! Try to get a good nights sleep tonight. Honestly it’s easier than year 7 as people in my experience were way more friendly, you get to be more of your own person as you are wearing your own clothes (I presume?) and you meet like minded people as you’re only doing the subjects you want to do. Megan Mahoney I’ve just got home from the first day. It was only the induction but it went really well. I have a question though, it might sound stupid but anyways. I’ve made loads of new friends but none of them really are like my type of friend if u get what I mean. I feel so much pressure to get into a group really quickly but like how long did it take u to find your group? I’m worried about not getting into any group if I wait to long but then I don’t want to rush Into a crowd I don’t like. 💓

I started college a year early so last year as up in the north west u can go to college from ages 14 (year 9) but I left school after year 10 and did my GCSEs at college and at mine I only do maths and language English it was the best decision especially if it’s a struggle for you to remember things and ur not very good in school and I’m going back next week on the 9th to do level 2 animal care then level 3 after that I will be doing a part job when i find one soon I will do full time after college I won’t go into uni as I’m not smart and I’m retaking maths this year for the second time xx

Well… went to a new 6th form it’s been 3 weeks and I still haven’t made friends that I can hang out with at lunch
i know this video is quite old but im going into year 12 next week and ive been trying to find a job to save some money for driving lessons, basics etc. do you have any advice for finding a job at this age? ive applied and interviewed at a lot of shops and fast food places for part time jobs but no luck

Hi I Love Glee I’ll answer for her. We talk about topics about life. Most people bunk it cos it’s so boring :)
I guess it is different in every school so don’t take our word as the Bible (ahaha lame re joke there). Yeah I agree, it was very discussion based. I felt like it was a big repetition of gcse concepts and it felt worse this time around because we were not actually working towards a qualification this time. Also, our sixth form is not really that catholic whereas the main school is so it’s a bit awks when all the catholic teachers have their opinions (which are completely valid and it is a catholic school at the end of the day so have to respect and appreciate that!!) in lesson sometimes as the vast majority of students appear to have a different view. Then again it does make for a good discussion but then again, most people switch off during the lesson because they don’t want to be there so it is a bit ineffective. At least it is slightly relaxing and a good distraction from work xx

Eve Mae if u failed maths u really should be doing Btec - a levels are probably not for you maybe not the wisest choice

Ah history is a good choice, hopefully you’ll enjoy it, I love it! Criminology sounds super interesting wow I didn’t even know that was a course. Aw don’t worry about the maths, I know a lot of people who had to re take maths or English, hopefully you get that out the way in year 12. As long as you work hard you’ll deffo be fine and make sure to enjoy yourself too! These two years go by quick xx

my lessons start Monday and im scared I made the wrong choice with taking history
good luck!! My lessons start then too. History is a hard subject with lots of essays and content but depending on your modules it can be super interesting too. I found the jump from GCSE to A Level was not too intense, for history at least. Maybe see how it goes for the next few weeks and then if you are not enjoying it then ask to switch subjects?

depends on what your school say! our aim was to finish it in year 12 but it ended up running over into the November of year 13 :) x

she means how the gcse curriculum changed about 5 years ago to make them harder, so anyone taking them now will have more difficult exams than people taking them around 10 years ago or so

aw good luck!! I'm sure you'll make new friends as there will be people in the same boat as you, everyone is nervous on that first day even if they don't show it. And you can still remain friends with your current friends. Even if they're doing different courses, that means you'll have loads more to talk about as your experience will be different so try not to worry and enjoy the rest of your summer.
