      Thank you! Human is arguably the best 🙈 because human geography is so broad, there are so many things I’m interested in. I’m thinking of applying to the civil service, something in sustainable fashion, environmental insurance or working in social media. Who really knows! x

    I absolutely love geography, but I’m worried it won’t open doors for future jobs?

    • @MeganMahoney1
      @MeganMahoney1  Pƙed 3 lety +2

      I’d like to think so! As it’s not vocational like medicine or law, it is easy to think ah I’m not sure where this will lead. But geography is so broad, so you learn skills that will be applicable to many industries. Here’s a link to a website I found useful: targetjobs.co.uk/careers-advice/degree-subjects-your-options/301030-what-can-i-do-with-a-geography-degree . I’ll let you know in 2 years if I land a job đŸ€Ș xx

    • @MeganMahoney1

      Thank you Grace! I was in Cavendish Hall and I’d highly recommend! It was catered, with a huge JCR so that was great for socialising. It is made up of 3 blocks, all en suite, and is a medium sized hall. Couldn’t be more perfect! Everyone I know in Cavendish loved it and had no regrets, no one ever had a bad word to say about it. Rooms were a bit small in comparison to other halls because of the en suite, and so were the pantries, but that didn’t impact my uni experience at all. Good location to, 5 min walk from the David Ross Gym, 7 min walk to tram stop, 5 min walk to co-op, 10 min walk to libraries and portland building. Hope that helps!! Xx

    • @ChloeTravels1998
      @ChloeTravels1998 Pƙed 3 lety

      Also sorry, another question of you don’t mind.
      What made you decide on human over physical?

    • @MeganMahoney1
      @MeganMahoney1  Pƙed 3 lety +1

      It’s really difficult to give you a set number with online learning but I’ll do my best! So pre-recorded lectures I’d get 3 a week (physical, human and globalisation in first term and physical, human and place in second term). Each lecture was about 2hrs so that’s 6hrs. Then each of them had a lecture engagement which are live on teams, 1hr each so 3hrs, totalling 9hrs so far. Then we had interpreting geographical data, a workshop where you worked in a group on teams through a workbook, that was 2hrs a week, totalling 11hrs. In second term we also had geographical information systems (GIS) that was a 1hr engagement, then you’d do independent work, so 12hrs. In second term we also had career skills which was an hour. Every week throughout the year we had a tutorial so 14hrs I’d say each week where a professor was actually teaching. Then I’d spend an extra 2hrs reading independently, and during coursework season could easily spend 10hrs a week for a few weeks doing essays/projects/group work. It’s a very manageable amount, I was able to go out around twice a week and have a part time job too. Oh sorry forgot optional human seminars, some were in person some online, so actually 15hrs!! xx

      I just prefer the variety of human geography and feel it would help more in my intended career paths. This year we’ve covered development, environmental, historical, political geography which were all super interesting. I enjoyed physical geography too, as that’s compulsory first year, but the science aspects often I found confusing. If you’re undecided you can do a mix of the two, it doesn’t matter at the end if the degree is a BA or BSC we’ve been told ❀

There aren't much of generic videos available on like living in Nottingham, what kinda places are good to stay, public transport for general people (without student pass) , etc etc. Do create some generic content as well, I'm sure more viewers would be interested in that.
