Good move with the change of line up. 👌🙏
Nav & Burkey are the go too’s. 💪
Young guy was to much of a fortnite CZcamsr
Top job to start with Matty, looks great so far.. Def upgrade the bullbar with winch n decent spotties. Maybe a roof rack or tub rack.. lookin forward to seeing the next stage
Mate looking good! Budget build would be tub rack for a cheap roof top tent, go block for fridge and minimal mods, perhaps lockers but simple and sweet it’s all about the drive time! Kids love the yota life want mine already!
Tray/canopy, lockers and bar work/ winch
This is cool! A budget rig that’s not a shitbox with the cheap and nasty accessories.
Love the concept cann't wait for stage 2!!!!
Keep these build videos coming. Can't wait to see how this turns out.
Keep the tub and put a canopy on it. It's in good nick and will save a ton of $ if you're trying to go budget.
Next up mods: Snorkel, battery, fridge.
Some good ideas there 👌
Tray and 3/4 canopy, rtt and awning, brown davis long range take for sure!!! Getting it ready for the longer weekend trips / tools and ropes / hunting gear / mini touring 🤙🏽
Keen for this build as I have a 2016 Hilux for 5 years now and still love it like I’ve only had it for a week. I did wheels and tyres straight away then spotties 2nd and then snorkel. I haven’t lifted it yet but that’s next. Winning that BROWNDAVIS tank would be an awesome upgrade. Mate would love to see you keep the tub and see what you do with it. Pumped on this build 🤙
Good call mate! Tub setup would be cool 🤔
Excited to see how the build goes matty! I’d put a tub rack on the Back with a rooftop tent too keep the weight down and then a simple drawer setup in the back with a fridge. That brown Davis tank would make a big difference for my bt50 as I’m starting to go on longer trips
Keen for this series, great budget and first steps
Me and my dad always dreamed of putting together something to have a father and son trip together unfortunately he passed away too early, my dream is to do a trip in his memory to the cape and honor my old man ❤
as you said, its a perfect weekender for tradies, so it def needs a tray and canopy
3 mods next would have to be snorkel, bash plates and sliders. you've given it the clearance to hot the tracks and now you got to protect it!
I think a snorkel a tub rack and a Roof Top Tent. The snorkel definitely go stainless of course it will sound amazing
Hopefully, you will do all the weights from start to finish also.
Sr5 rear tub is a nice touch.
Anytime locker switch is a must.
“See if we can build a 4wd for under 100k……”on a car they only paid $36k for. lol I don’t know what planet Matty lives on 😮
Wait and see 😏
He lives in CZcams land this is not real life it’s all about advertising
@@Trinder47 Every man and his dog has a touring Hilux. Half the price of a 79 build and is a achievable touring vehicle for a lot of people. We will be using quality products it can definitely be done cheaper but if you watch the video we are giving it away to one of you so the more we spend the better for the winner 😂
@@theexplorelife the reason why top gear was so successful was not because of the supercars, it was because of the the budget builds and genuine presenters. You're a genuine presenter, but don't forget who your fan base is. We're battlers and aspiring 4wd /adventure enthusiasts or the next gen of kids that think $20k is a world away. Stay with us, and we'll support you. Drift and we'll battle our way to others who are better at assimilating with us. Peace!
@@timsankwe love building a wild range of vehicles. We just built Navs Hilux at $20k and now we have this hilux at around $70k then we have a new touring build at $300 k so we have a wild range 🤙
Imagine thinking 100k budget is reasonable
Has to have a snorkel, staino for looks, plastic for bucks, 1in body lift for scrub clearance. Next isnt ideal for long trips but budget friendly tub rack rrt setup and mabye tub drawer systems! smikko
can’t wait to see what the lux will look like 👍 good video as always
Going to be a great build
You're doing just fine so far. The shock choice is a good one. A good quality standard shock works for the average dude.
Next up airlockers, a snorkel air intake, fuel filters if not already on the truck. No general need for the deep wading capability as most average owners don't beat on their trucks, but the fresh air intake makes it a stage 2 must have.
Stage 3 Long range or additional fuel tank, UHF setup, rear bumper.
Stage 4 Better off-road lighting setup, possible front bumper upgrade, 12,000lb winch, seat covers, trailer towing capability if not already capable, skid plates if needed.
After that it depends on what you plan to do with the truck bed. The standard bed is fine for average dudes. In that case drawers, bed cap, lithium/electronics, fridge/freezer. If going with tray you still need at least a half canopy like the GU for the lithium/electronics and fridge/freezer. Roof mounted solar and Maxtrax.
I had Nitto grappler A/Ts on my Ranger but have recently switched to Maxxis razor A/Ts, much cheaper and better in every way, barely any road noise
Mad video bro. Keep it up !!
Young tommy what are you thinking
Winch bar , rock sliders & tray and canopy are my 3
Depends on what you are doing....i would give up the tray and canopy , leave the tub on and put a couple of draws in if you want to go budget.
the basics for me are bar and winch, snorkel and a 12v system (removeable if need be)
I've built my brand new 2023 Navara complete with canopy, 12 vault, solar, dual fridge set up with a box for my best mate! Even comes with heated seats for us old boys!
Sounds like a rig mate 🙌
Good for posting the costs as you go along. I’d also be interested to know how they affect your insurance costs from stock to final. Insurers love those “what have you changed on your vehicle” questions as they start lifting the premiums.
Yeah that’s a great point mate - I’ll look into it 👍
Since it’s already got a bar and spotties which do its job for the moment the 3 mods id do would be communication get a UHF, storage draws for the back, and a safari snorkel.
Canopy, Bullbar and roof racks 👌
Tray and canopy
Roof rack and lights!
Next up bar winch recovery points, awesome video as usual .
Thanks mate! Recovery points a must!
I reckon a muzz bar with a winch and a staino snorkel for those water crossings as stage 2
Hands down best mod for a duel cab is back seat delete and extra set of draws in the cab for home emminities so you dont take up all you offroad gear space and camp gear! Good sound system dry and locked up bags all in the cab 👌🏻
Full canopy , bar and winch, roof top tent.👍
Def winch and barwork. Maybe some decent under body gear.
Tommy no longer in the explore life videos 😍
Do not forget to carry a spare DPF. Oh and a decent air box.
Bar work, winch, lights, and tray and canopy
Stage 2 I would do tray Jack of canapy and slider or exhaust
The Bull bar winch canopy is the way to go for stage 2
next up snorkel, rock sliders, winch compatible bulbar.
Ok as someone that just brought a 2018 N80 this is grouse
Mods I’m thinking of doing first are lift, tyres, rear bar (rear bar to get the spare out from under the car for space for a water tank) light bar and spotties, bull bar and Brown Davis long range tank. Being a p plate as a mechanic means it’s gonna be AWHILE before I can do anything but those are the plans ahah
That’s it mate! Just modify in time as the budget allows 🙌 Good point about bringing the spare up - hadn’t considered that yet 👍
snorkel tub rack and uhf
Gday all love your content
1. New exhaust
2. Front bash plate
3. Snorkel
Good suggestions mate!
Uhf, snorkel and bar work (sliders scrubs winch bar ect)
Spotties/Lightbars, Roofrack, UHF
All still relatively cheap and most of the time, easy enough to install in the driveway
PSR hoop bar, better spoties or Torno cover, uhf
Next up bar, LIGHTING!!, uhf👌 Stage 3 tub setup.
🤣"Lightning?" wow that stuff would be a real shocker trying to install😂 everyone involved would get a real buzz out of that. Soz couldn't help myself on the spellchecking, i know you meant "lighting".😁
That would be a true shocking experience.
@@brett3758 😂⚡️
Keen to see the build mate. Some cheap handy mods I'd suggest are manual hub disconnectors cause I love running 2wd low range backing the work trailer and in case you break a cv. Also there is a product that allows you to run the n80 with traction control on and still have rear locker engaged. Apparently you can only have one or the other stock? Anytime locker kit I think they are called.
OK I'm commenting earlier. Hopefully it ends up in my driveway 😂 be a big change from my 2000 hilux.
Love ya work guys let's get it
😂👍
chuck an exhaust kit on it, new headlights and spotties, and a 5 post bull bar thats winch compatable
My stage two is lockers, rocksliders and winch. Which is going to be awhile for me because I need a new steering rack first haha
Stage 3 I reckon
Better lights
Snorkel
Winch capable bar
I reckon by the time you build it in stages Matty that you should give it a good test run around Australia to prove that it’s capable for all the people first time touring.
That was the original plan mate but can’t afford to keep it that long anymore unfortunately!
Tub rack spot lights winch
Buds customs bar + TDI tray
Glade the young bloke is gorn now set it up and give it to nav the legand so he can do more remote stuff
front and rear winch + bars , power command throttle management, snorkel
Stage two I’d go side steps, spotlights and airbox
Next 3 mods
I always say a decent (UHF radio) I think communication is very important off-road
A snorkel (not a stainless one)
And Rock sliders
I would change out the side steps, ad a roof rack for an awning and a decent tow bar.
What i would do next:
Fridge & slide in tub
CB radio
Sliders
Stage 2 should be about safety & protection for yourself + passengers as well as the vehicle IMHO - Bars & racks for mounting recovery gear.
But consider stage 3 now IMHO too. Flat tray canopies are most common off-road for practicality however…🤔IF* you want uniqueness, maybe customise a canopy for tub tray to utilise the often wasted space between wheel arches?
Will have to consider access to fridge & spare wheel tho (rear door kitchen with wheel mount?) + how to tie height into roof rack IF* adding rooftop tent. Just tossing ideas but Whaddayas reckon? 😁👍🏽
Snorkel, exhaust and tune would be my next 3 mods
My 3 ideas for stage 2 would be
1. GME Radio communication, would throw that in first, u don't wanna be that guy that's got no idea what's going on, on your trip away.
2. New bull bar like an muzz bar or along those lines (everyones go to bar)
3. Rock sliders, keep the sills in good Nic
Snorkel, exhaust and tune 🤙
Roof rack 180 awning and a front locker
1:Tray canopy
2:Dual Battery setup
3:winch
And in my opinion it would be a serious setup just at that
100% mate can’t go wrong with that 🙌
What offset were the rims? It looks sick. Just ordered this exact suspension kit before I watched the full video.
Stage 2 would be winch dual battery set up an fridge
BFG Radial Mud Terrain is my preference.
Stage 2. UHF bash plates and car seat covers
This fella sounds like a pro ay
Rock sliders, roof rack and snorkel
You need to do a tub rack an witch bull bar an max tracks
Stage 2, staino, uhf, spotties.
Stage 3 roofrack,sliders
Stage 4 winch, 12v basic duel cab is build after these
Stage 5 tray & canopy
Stage 6 tune and enjoy
next thing I would do to the car would be under body protection rated recovery points winch compatible bull bar this would also give you some were to put the aerial for a uhf later on
Recovery points and protection 🙌 so important mate
Rock sliders, underbody protection and a Gme would be my choice nxt
i reckon keep it as a wellbody ya canopy on set of draws for storage 12 volt system not everyone likes the steel tray setups
Stage 2 please add snorkel for intake.
Keen to see what ''budget" tray/canopy' set up you use...
Maybe we won’t do a tray canopy ? 😏
Triple tray is only like $3500. There a great solid tray 👍
Winch bar , sidestep and tray
Snorkel & exhaust , throttle controller , uhf , led head light kit , 12v power to tub
Hay mate little tip. Make sure you do diff breathers and also do the 4wd actuator. It’s next to the front diff and what engages it. I’m currently replacing mine as the breather supplied from factory is inline with the diff. Its a common problem I’d look into it
Good call mate! Hadn’t heard about that yet
Definitely upgrade the bar, then just go tray & half canopy.
Simple and easy 👌
Good vid mate. Underbody protection, dual battery, 4x Maxtrax
The essentials 🙌
Had my 2012 rg collie since 2017, yes it’s taken a beating but bloody oath it’s had some timely mods as the years have gone on. Plus a wrecker cab, engine and box swap from a newer model that may or may not have been written off 🤫
I'm keen to see the engine servicing, intake clean, power upgrades, all kept mild for reliability. I reckon you’ll get it built for less than 100k. I know I would with my own coins
snorkel, UHF, keep the tub but put a canopy on top of the tub.
For the beginner and budget of a younger person I'd most definitely be getting auto lokkas front n rear they work amazing n very affordable n will allow much better off road ability without the risk of busting the cvs etc add a winch to that for those recoveries cause we all no the bog holes will catch u out n 3rdly definitely b putting rock sliders on to keep the car off those rocks n damaging the sills
staino and airbox
I have a 2018 hilux pretty much the same .i have a 2” lift , 33s , bar with winch , snorkel, uhf, roof rack …. I use a swag for sleeping and and I fridge I throw in the back seats for weekends away !!!! I would like to see a 12v set up for my tub , and without getting rid of the tub and converting to a tray , maybe see a camping set up with a tub tray and tent
Good idea mate 👌
hey mate, did ypu have to do a body mount chop to fit the 33" tyres or what did you do?
You going to upgrade the spare tyre too ?
Winch and winch bar better spot lights and and Tray and canopy, rock sliders, rooftop tent, Red arc battery, set up for cooking and fridge, snorkel be great to see it done up ready to go camping 🏕️
Rock slicers 12 volt light force
Definitely a fridge and dual battery set up to keep the beers cold. Uhf and snorkel. With that alone you can travel 90% of Australia.
Keen to know what suspension parts were used? Adjustable UCA’s? Diff drop? Different CV? Looking at a 2” lift myself and interested to know.
This looks epic! Does this amount of lift/tyre size need any body chop to stop scrubbing on the fronts?
