- "Did you know Tony Gonzalez played basketball?"
A question asked by every commentator during Gonzalez's hall of fame career in the NFL. To commemorate his induction into the NFL hall of fame, I decided to make a video highlighting his time as a nice rotation guy for a Pact-10 team. As an undersized power forward for Cal Berkeley, Gonzalez used his immense strength and good hands to provide energy and hustle for the Bears. As a not-so-fun fact, Gonzalez missed playing with Jason Kidd by one year. - Sport
In today's episode, I get back to my roots by making a video about an obscure subject that nobody asked for. With Tony G going into the NFL Hall of Fame, what better way to kick of Chiefs month than to make a highlight video of him playing basketball for Cal? After all, announcers only mentioned after every catch during each Chiefs/Falcons game.
Tony Gonzalez was actually a pretty good player, something I didn't expect. No, he wasn't an all-world talent on the hardwood, or even a great starter. But he was a solid role player off the bench in a major conference, which is darn impressive considering basketball was his second sport.
I took these highlights from an older channel that happened to have highlight videos from the 90s. The clips you see came from the 5 games I could find Gonzalez highlights in.
As always, let me know who you'd like to see next!

Can I suggest a College Steve Atwater Highlight Video?
@@denverbroncosarchive2263 I can look into it. I think there's a decent amount of footage of Arkansas during the late-80s, but I'll need to check.
PockyCandy awesome! I would love that video
Can you do one on Derrick Brooks and or Julius Peppers? Thank you Sir.
@@sneekypete8296 what about Derrick Thomas? Since this is Chiefs month, I've started working on an Alabama DT highlight video. He was a dominant defensive player too.
Tony avging 6 and 4 and the college level WHILE being the best right end in the country is CRAZY.
I imagine in those years he was in CRAZY shape. Like CRAZY.
this is legit. dude was a hooper. cool to see.
This is where I know him from.
He once stated "I wanted to go to the NBA because they have the best athletes in the world"
Mr Gonzalez you are one awesome athlete thank you for the memories
PockyCandy! You really went left field and hit us with some Tony G! The most popular video that I didn't know that I wanted to see and then I saw it, great job PockyCandy!
Damn Tony could hoop
Greatest tight end of all time.
That would be shannon sharpe or gronk my guy
Aaron Hernandez
@@YoungBrada He killed it
@@lagosfury5142 It's pretty much consensus that Tony G is king. Look at most any list. Even loud-mouth Shannon doesn't proclaim to be the best. Neither does Gronk.
@@kailuab9082 but shannon doesnt GIVE IT UP to anybody either
Question sir, can you upload Jim Jackson from Ohio State college highlights with lots of jumpers. Greatly appreciated. Great video!
Tony is the man;!!
That play at 2:22 though!
Playin both sports is always impressive but people callin him a “hooper” is crazy 😂
Did he play with Jason Kidd at Cal
No he didn't. Tony's Freshmen year would have been Jason's junior year if he didn't go to the NBA after his Sophomore year
Yes.
@@sodomyandchicken8284 Yes, they DID.
Forgot Tony was a cal bear
Took charges and everything real hooper.
First play is a crazy travel 😂 he loses control of it then mid dribble touches it with both hands (double Dribble) then after he controls ball finally he takes another dribble 😂🤦🏼♂️
I thought so too. But if the opponent touches the ball he's free to dribble again no?
double dribble*
