NETFLIX CORRECTION: I stupidly stated the annual UK cost with the Moroccan monthly cost, so I am putting that right, here. Annual Moroccan Netflix is 1,080dhs or £86.65 compared with the £135 annual cost of Netflix in the UK - It is still a significant gap compared to the gap between the cost of Netflix in the two countries in 2020.

You need to compare the pourcentage of each cost to the salery. For example iphone = 3 month salery in morocco ...

If you are European and have reached retirement age, Morocco is a good choice for stability, and you will certainly benefit from the tax differences between the two countries, which is reflected in the cost of living.

The cost of living in Morocco is very cheap for Foriegners from European states compared to native Morocans. A regular Moroccan still suffers and struggls with life necessities on a daily basis, as most of them recieve minimum wages range between( 220 dollars to 350 dollars a month). However, in morocco we still have solidarity, love, and a strong family bonds. We love this country of ours, its people, and its King. Long live Morocco.

I am Belgian, I have lived in Morocco for a little over 10 years.
Living in Morocco with €, £ or $ in your pocket and earning a living in these currencies gives the impression of financial ease.
But when you work and earn your living in dirhams I can guarantee that life in Morocco is excessively expensive, much more expensive than the UK or Europe. And apart from the very pleasant climate, life in Morocco is far from easy. Impossible to make a real comparison, surviving in dirhams or living in pounds (euros or dollars)... it's not at all the same fight

I know it is not easy if you are paid a Moroccan wage. Towards the end of the video, I do acknowledge that Moroccans have suffered from the cost of living crisis. Poor people in both countries have. I think there is a view in Morocco that the UK can't be all that bad as it is a "developed" nation, but people are suffering a lot in the UK.

As a Moroccan i can say that the prices given are pretty much accurate, only for gas bill most of Moroccan we only use gas bottle for cooking , i think in the UK gas bill included cooking and heating., but again morocco isn't known for very cold weather, so you will be fine with AC and heating equipment that use electricity. another change that i think you should notice in the future is you will find more Moroccan could communicate in English.

I live in Fes city, really cold in winter, ultra hot in summer, I have 3 air conditioners (huge one = 36k BTU, the second two = 11k BTU), in summer they work nearly full day, and I pay less than 2000/2500 Dh/m for that... if the same situation in the UK, all your average salary won't be enough for that...
also, I use one of the most modern and sophisticated central heating in the market at home (energy hungry) that works 24/24 in the winter time, including floor-walls heating/water heating/etc, it takes between 6 to 8 gas cylinders, so less than 30£/m, you can't even imagine doing that in the UK with an average or higher income!!
So Gari is right, if you take the small things in daily living, Morocco is by far a better place to live if you have a good income!!

I have lived in Rabat for almost ten years. I can say from personal experience that I change my gas bottle every three months. I can almost time it to the day - certainly the week. That is my personal experience that is almost a decade long. Obviously, if you are a family, the bottle is not going to last as long, but as a single person, with a decade of personal experience, I can say my claim is true.

Great video. To be honest I was waiting for more comparisons like private school (which is a must nowadays for Moroccans) and also in terms of individual income and minimum wage. As a Moroccan, I've noticed that in Europe you get 3 times more than the salary you may get in Morocco with the same work/experience. With that, I guess having 3 times the income of a Moroccan can cover the high expenses in the UK, but it's hard to survive with the Moroccan salary in Morocco with those prices.

Although it's a bit "tough" to get things here (the gaz bottles for example), it still remains a good destination where you can find most of what you need for a very cheap price.

the stated prices for things like food and travel can vary widely depending on the location, coffee for example in my city is still at 7 dh for almost every cafe you will stumble upon, food is mostly uniform in price except in a major city like rabat where it is expected to cost a dirham extra per kg, same for gas, and bus (which is 3.5 dirhams in fes) price can go up or down by a dirham depending on the location. and finally on wifi a fiber 20mbit/s is 250 dirhams and up, most of the population has the 20mbit package.

It's true that you can go cheaper. I made the decision to go with the high end of prices in Morocco and the low end of prices in the UK, so people know that is about the closest the financial gap between the two countries. I am Moroccan and I lived in the UK for nearly 15 years
There's not such thing called TV licence in Morocco
We have electricity bill nearly 200 Dh a month and in the UK the smallest electricity mount you can pay is around 80 pound if you are using it carefully.
Also we do have council tax and yearly my family pays 1000 Dh a year and I pay for council tax 142 pound a month
Bus fare here in Cardiff is 2.40 pound for a single in Morocco is 5Dh .
Incomein Morocco : we have VAT which is 20%
Income in the UK: 20% VAT + National insurance + Pension
There is a hug gab f cost of living between Morocco and the UK.
    It's extremely expensive here.
Rent in Morocco : 1000 Dh you can have two bedroom flat
Rent in the UK: one bedroom flat is nearly 1000 pound

However, just a little remark regarding the cost of living here in Morocco as opposed to England, and that is the difference in purchasing power here in Morocco, which is depending primarily on wages, and salaries, and also the pricing, which is also determined by the size of the economy here in Mirocco Vs the size of its pair in Egland....!
Nevertheless, it is very important and very educational comparison...

Well I gotta say that the prices you talked about are pretty accurate most of the time except living costs and gas where I disagree with you on the costs there. For the comparison to be fair though, it has to include the average salary in both countries then you can compare between the cost of living and quality of life. Al Hamdolilah we are doing very good in Morocco and hoping things will continue to improve. It's clear that Morocco can offer you a better quality of life for a lower amount of money, but our youth is still brainwashed to believe that they can achieve more financial success and find better job opportunities in 1st world countries in Europe like France, Spain, the UK and so on even though the costs and spending there are like a nightmare...

hey Sullivan, I think it was important to also mention the difference in salaries in the UK vs Morocco, it puts in perspective why things that seem cheap in comparison to their prices in the UK are not as cheap to us who get a very different salary. Just to help you out, an average salary here is about 3600-5000dh, you can see that it can barely cover the cost of living, leaving very little wiggle room for entertainment :/
ETA: the salaries mentioned here are salaries for people working in the private sector, in which, the positions are becoming increasingly scarce & people are struggling to keep their jobs cuz companies know that people will always apply & that they dont have to keep employees if they don’t worship their job. Now, on average, people with no high degrees earn around 2500-3000dh, & most of them have families to feed…

You might be interested in my video about life on minimum wage in the UK and Morocco. czcams.com/video/I5eGHJoXrRY/video.html You'll see some differences, but there are similar financial sacrifices made in both nations.

Interesting video but I would like to point out that Moroccans do not use gas to heat their house, only to cook which probably explains the big price gap.
