I don’t mean this in any negative way as I have found your posts interesting and informative, but your personal views is another matter… Dogs are not the bridge between animals and humanity, just because it’s a western thing to own a dog as I have most of my life since a child it doesn’t mean everyone should feel the same way as you feel. The Arab and Persian cultures have been around for thousands of years longer than western society as the west came from the Persian and Middle East themselves… so you cannot come along and preach dogs are special, definitely never harm a dog as it’s a creation like any other animal, but dogs are not as clean as cats, and in Islam cats are allowed in the home whereas dogs are not allowed to be kept in the home, instead they can be kept as guard dogs or hunting dogs etc. Basically working animals to help humans… I don’t own a cat myself as I’m not so much a cat person but just stating the facts hehe

I've always felt a feeling of suffocation every time I visit Marrakesh, which is why I've always preferred the coastal cities, which are less "Give me your money" and more natural if that makes sense. People just act like themselves, and you get immersed into the actual culture of the Moroccan people. I can only imagine how it must've been for you.

Londoner here. Emigrated in 2015. The reasons I left are simple to articulate: - punitive taxes; - services are nowhere near commensurate with aforementioned taxes; - anti-meritocractic system in all branches of employment and life: education, civil service, private sector; - puerile political discourse; - education system not fit for purpose; - low quality housing stock; - expensive cost of living (travel, council tax, utilities); - absolute lack of any united community, common values, common ideals, common sense of identity; - atrocious weather; - utterly corrupt political class. It's clear the U.K. despises me: - higher-rate tax-payer; - served my country; - started a high-tech business; - STEM graduate. So, the decision to leave was relatively simple.

The culture of morocco cannot and should not be allowed to be replicated in europe or uk. While redundant rules and regulations should be revisited from time to time, the dangers of circumventing the rules which works but appears heartless during incidents like the one you mentioned can be fine tuned but in no case be allowed to be flouted. If rules are expected to be bent to suit individual needs then they will no longer be respected and followed and tough measures taken in turn to implement and enforce them as happens in most islamic countries and as is with morocco for sure. Yes it can cause unhappines because living a civilised life is not a natural phenomenon but one which has developed out of compulsion of governance and need of maintenance of orderliness within society. Nowhere this is most felt in need than inside large complex cities of the world. So i would not recommend accommodating the kind of bending of rules on individual basis as in this case. However, I am sure rules and regulations are not an end to themselves, they are not god given, neither are they meant to be perfect solution providers to problems for all times to come. Yes it is best they represent humanity as far as possible but as I had said the danger of following that path is multifold in todays large and complex cities where different types of people of different cultures with different values and different standards of respect and interpretation of rules live by side. The dangers of allowing such bending of rules in multicultutlral societies is huge. Much of that concern comes from my experuence of growing up in a third world ethnically mixed region of the world. I will go further on to say that multiculturalism is not suitable for many countries of europe. People who likes to live in such environment should instead consider moving to places meant for that traditionally, notably the tropical regions or economically rich regions like USA. Europe or UK is inherently not suitable for such environment.

Morocco is a corrupt country and will continue to be corrupt. Everything you said is valid, but you failed to mention that the country is being run by a current government composed of people from the Bourgeoisie. They aren't working for the people, they are working on developing things for the sake of tourism only. The Marrakech Culture is the Moroccan government culture. Meaning they don't want to develop anything long-term (industries, talent, people), they want things to be easy and rely on foreigners to pay for them. In addition, the culture of power in the country perpetuates the injustice towards people. Healthy competition is frowned upon, which hurts the economy, and any person who's got a position of power doesn't feel compelled to work hard, because their position is guaranteed. There is a lot of Nepotism in the country and corruption otherwise gets things done. This is pushing a lot of young men to immigrate looking for better opportunities and looking for justice. What's worse, the Moroccan government has no incentive to keep and provide opportunities to these young men because when they immigrate they send dollars and euros to Morocco. Regarding the World Cup and COVID, Morocco was just Lucky. First, during the world cup, Morocco faced teams in the middle of transitioning and who were having problems. It was in no way an indicator of the strength of the team, far from it. Second, about COVID, Morocco as a kingdom, allowed itself to do certain things that other democratic countries couldn't do. Indeed, there was a lot of financial support to families (to impress the West and Europe), but all that money and more was recuperated when prices of gas almost tripled out of nowhere when the lockdown ended. Your rosey impression of Morocco is slightly distorted because 1. you're a foreigner so people treat you differently (Tourism) because they think there is a potential of making some money with you. 2. Your local salary is high which allows you access to things most Moroccans don't have access to. 3. You live in Rabat. it's the capital and the main residence of the king. So out of fear, the city is often clean and most things function quite well.

  • @stevenpeaketrainsandstuff3682

If you let yourself get treated like dirt and allow the wealthy to treat you like serfs, then you haven't got much to live for and not much to offer. In this life you have to fight like you are the third monkey in line to get on the ark and it's started raining. A lot of people are already beyond help.

Its fascinating to see people from the west becoming expats in favor of countries in the global south, only to want those same countries to start adopting "western norms" and "western values". The reason most become expats is because they are unhappy with the way of life in the west ....why then wish for conservative countries to become like the country you left? I personally find it tragic that these Muslim countries are adopting Liberalism and Femanism.
