Hi Im a Moroccan i live in Marrakesh i crossed to your channel and i loved it please keep it up my friend
Thank you so much for your encouragement.
Really enjoyed listening to your experience and thoughts. I'm married to a Moroccan and after being with him for almost 13 years I'm only just beginning to understand the mentally. I think a lot of things are down to education, the dropping of litter, treatment of animals and the helmet issue is just an educational thing that's not taught at a young age.....it just doesn't occur to them that its an issue. I feel its sad that the morocca youth are being influenced by the west, I really hope they see that it's not the way to go and it's important to keep some of the traditional ways but still progressing in things that need to change for better.
There are some wonderful aspects of western society that I would love to see adopted in Morocco. Equally, there are some aspects I would advise Morocco to avoid.
I agree there are some good aspects to western society, but it is very sad to see a Muslim country adopt some of the things that are considered immoral in Islam being adopted. The world does not need to see two people of the same sex kissing or holding hands. That is entirely a western thing that is best to stay in the west. If you like exotic animals, we have a choice to go visit them in a zoo, but that does not mean we welcome them roaming our streets.
Great video! Here is to another decade 😊
I hope so. I certainly don't want to leave before the 2030 world cup.
"While I understand the concept of open-mindedness, sharing images of homosexuality doesn't necessarily align with everyone's interpretation of it. Freedom and open-mindedness encompass diverse perspectives, including respecting traditional values. So, is using platforms like Netflix the only way you define open-mindedness, including encouraging homosexuality ?
Exactly. I found it disgusting and I’m born and raised in Sydney Australia.
Respect the Islamic society and don’t push western corruption not “culture” on the innocent youth of Morocco.
the books announcement in the beginning was crazy
great channel btw its really becoming my favorite
I am surprised you didn't mention the driving experience in Morocco, this one always gets me.
I did have that in the original, but I cut it down to 15 minutes. Maybe I should do an out-takes video
Im excited 🎉
Hi Gari, that's my second or third video i watched on your channel. I LOVE IT.
Only Two! :) I have a long weekend's supply of videos! I hope you find others to enjoy.
I totally agree about differences between Morocco and UK Gari especially when you were talking about the total freedom of speak ❤❤❤
Although, it is becoming more and more difficult to speak your mind in the UK, when I left we had a level of freedom of speech that has now gone. However, I still have to me more careful than in the UK
Morocco is an amazing country. Liked your video. Well done Gari Sullivan.
Thank you so much for your encouraging comment
Great video 👍 Thank's for sharing !

So happy for you! Congrats and enjoy!
Thank you so much!!
Interesting video, Gari.
I'd like to visit Morocco one day - maybe this year.
Best wishes from the UK 😊
You should certainly visit Morocco, but try and get beyond Marrakesh. Look out for the second part of this video to find out why.
@@GariSullivan... Thanks for that, Gari...
I'm actually more interested in the less tourist-oriented/commercial places in Morocco, such as Fnideq, for example... Would like to have a more "authentic" experience + I NEED to be beside the sea !!! 😂😮😊
Great video!
Thanks
We need more videos like this
Part two coming next week
Welcome to morocco a friend from oujda
It's great to be here.
I am happy for being very honest
Thank you. Part 2 - with more honesty - comes next week
The helmet you talk about i can tell that dad is not worry about his life more than his kids but he is putting the helmet on just to not be stopped by the police officer on route.
I'm moroccan teaching in the UK , your video was nice and fair , i don't see any reasons why some of your friends advised not to switch the picture of the king and queen in the currency i found it nice when i watched that video and i don't think you need to think twice before postings a video if its about sensitive topics i think people might be offended or annoyed if you're criticsing just for the purpose of criticism but that's not the case in your channel you seems like a nice British guy who loves and enjoy morocco that's why people know that when you criticises something its from a good heart plus it's rarely when you criticisesd in this channel most of your content is positive.
Best wishes
Thank you for your comment and your support. It is true that I do love Morocco. By nature, I am someone who speaks their mind and is honest in my opinion. At the same time, I try to respect the values of the country I am in.
However, as someone who feels very settled in Morocco and see this country is changing. I want to help it get the best from the west and avoid the mistakes the British made. I think I will make more videos like this.
You are awesome with a great heart
Thank you for saying so. Like most people, I try to do good and make people happy.
The response to question 4 hit me so hard.
So many Moroccans are not used to and not able to receive criticism about their country. Those glass-hearted nationalist are just the worst. They don't understand that having an opinion means that you care and are invested. How can you have civic engagement and improvement if criticism hurts you?
And yes, dogs and garbage. It breaks my heart.
Honestly, I was expecting more anger - early days, I guess. Maybe when you have been in a country for a decade, you earn the right to be critical of it.
@@GariSullivan If you don't have criticism you are ambivalent. That the worst relationship you can have with your host country IMO.
Totally different mindset. But not everywhere. I guess it's the totalitarian history and the general lack of civil engagemtn.
people don't wear helmet, if they do it just to avoid penalty.
I can understand the consideration of the law. Sure, let the adult wear one to avoid a penalty, but make the kid wear one to avoid death! Personally, I think the police should stop every adult who risks the health and life of his child.
About the helmet observation: I don't think parents value their life more than that of their children. It's just that people wear the helmet just to avoid fines from police rather than a safety measure... which is arguably a worse reasoning from the parent... 🤦🤣

hi coming to rabat next month, one of your video you mantion area called Locean, how do i find 1 bed apartment there also roughly how much will it cost? thank you.
The part in your video about the helmet is fantastik, I think the authority should do something about that, because simply it's a nonsense. I love your channel.
Thank you so much for your kind comments about my channel. It is always encouraging to hear people say these things.
MOROCCO🇲🇦🇲🇦💗🇬🇧🇬🇧
Very good video, will you be doing a 2024 cost of living update also?
There is a video where I compare the cost of living crisis between Morocco and the UK. It was made at the end of 2023, so it is quite recent. czcams.com/video/gg_zq5zvdAI/video.html
Are you still living in Morocco or moved back to the UK? Waiting for Part 2.
Part two will be out on Monday 29th April. I am still in Morocco. I have no intention of moving back to the UK
As a Moroccan teen, I see multiple nationalities here in Rabat especially in Hay Riad, what do you think of this and the reason people around the world decided to move to Morocco?
As I hint at in the video: Morocco is the new Spain. It is modern enough to give its residences an ease of life, but it is under-developed enough to still be cheap and not controlled by big business. Morocco is at the sweet-spot.
CAN I AFFORD TO RETIRED IN MOROCCO IF MY PENSION IS US$1,200 A MONTH?
👍👍👍
A large number of Moroccans believe dogs chase angels (and/or invite bad luck) from any vicinity they are. My mom is adamant a dog in a house chases angels for 40 days. Unfortunately, I don't see how the treatment of dogs in Morocco will change much anytime soon.
Yes also many cities the streets have fleas and other things, so many in Marrakech don't want them bringing into the home. And because it doesn't rain much (never😂) we take our dirty shoes off before come in home
It's always 40 days for everything religious. I feel sorry for Moroccans who believe dogs chase angels. In truth, dogs ARE angels. Moroccans are denying themselves a benefit.
But it's just the old people that hold these believes
How did you develop the idea of relocating to Morocco in the first place?
I find it very interesting that you don't seem to have any problems living there without knowledge of the local language(s). This is something I couldn't imagine for myself. That's why I have always been learning languages, although I never planned to relocate, but just for holidays I find it so useful to at least understand something.
Actually, I have spent a life travelling. My plan was to end up in Spain, but as I say in the video: Morocco is the new Spain.

@13:40 actually the driver has to wear a helmet. So the dads are more afraid about being fined than having an accident and die ! it's not about child vs dad life
I guess it is not, but it should be. Drivers' should be aware of the risk to the child's safety. It is the duty of all adults to do it, because young children cannot judge risk.
@@GariSullivan of course !
You are right dogs are not well treated in Morocco unlike cats
A religious dimension is in play. IAM a Muslim and understand the old message 😂
Moroccans miss out on the benefits that dogs bring to humans. I hope Moroccans realise their loss soon. At least get guide dogs!
Cuz of miss understanding of religious text ... There is no excuse of the bad treatment the dogs recieve ... Since there is a hadeeth where a man entered paradise just cuz he helped a thirsty dog in the mid of the desert .. tho there is a hadeeth that says we must not let them inside the house but it also says that we could use them as gards and for hunting .. so people could still treat them well and benefit from dogs in so many other ways despite not letting them in our homes . But people sadly take it as "not letting them in" = "treating them bad" .
@@zenosama8599 You said it perfectly. Barakallahu Fik.
nice video
Thank you so much
Great Content! I am sorry to ask, but do you have children? If so how did your children adapted and how is the educational system? I am thinking about moving but I have no idea how my kids enroll to school since the American schools are so expensive. Thanks
I don't have school-age kids, so I never had that problem. I know private schools are expensive here; although not as expensive as in the UK. The costs depends on the age of your kid (the younger, the cheaper) If they are really young, you can consider UK and French schools in major cities. The french system is horrid, frankly, but they do offer bi-lingual studies (due to parental demand)
For the helmet thing that you mentioned, most Moroccans have small motorbike, they are on a budget so having a helmet is just to not get a fine by a police officer, none of them think about safety, it's just lately that cops started asking for the passenger to have the helmet as well.. welcome to Morocco.
I hope the police stop more and more dads with helment-free kids.
Mr Gari you've been living for 10 years in Morocco. Why you don't speak in moroccan language (Darija)?
I speak it a little. I find it very difficult to pronounce. When I do try, Moroccans don't alwahs understand my accent. My job gives me very little opportunity to practice the language. Believe me, it is easier for me to get you all to speak English than to get me to speak Darija.
I hope Morocco improves but doesn't adopt the the bad parts of WESTERN WAYS, only the good parts !
💯 agreed. West in many ways has become disagreeable
I agree. It is a balance. Morocco should do the successful things of the west, but it needs to think about how to avoid the worst aspects of the west.
About the dog issue its a bit of a religious trick here and let me tell you that among alllll muslim coutries the malikis which is morroco's way are the most tolerent of dogs but yet there still work to do cos our prophet has allowed a dog if its for : security, farming , and hunt . Some oulama say it could include any other newly discovered good use like police and therapy.
Even if we stick with security. Helping blind people across the road is an example of security.

I'm Moroccan and I live in Germany. You won't believe that I've seen more fatal accidents in Germany than I've ever seen in Morocco, despite driving being chaotic in Morocco.
I dare say you are right about fatal accidents. Morocco suffers more from more knocks and bangs. It delays traffic, increases insurance payments and takes up more police and ambulance times.
Part of this is why I eliminated moving to Germany very early on. I hate that "country". I wouldn't wish my worst enemy to go there.
Dad has a hamlet to avoid a fine lol but I got your logic living in Europe now it doesn’t make sense but hamlet is not about protection against accident but against police fine and taking the motorcycle away lol I love this contrast actually but I don’t encourage it thi
I understand that Moroccans don't see the risk of injury. In taxis they don't wear a seatbelt because they legally don't have to, but wear one in cars because they do. It shouldn't be about the law. It should be about safety - especially the safety of children
Thank you. I agree with everything you said, especially how Moroccans treat dogs, don't provide helmets for children, and throw trash on the street. I hope this mentality changes.
I think it will when people highlight those issues.
Yes, you are right. The fact that you do not speak Arabic or French is good for your students as they are forced to communicate with you only in English.
I'll add this. French speakers in Morocco have almost no idea how much English is spoken in this country.
@@GariSullivan True. Most Moroccans speak at least three languages by the time they get to high school. Tamazighth, Arabic and French. Their linguistic gear box is well oiled. Those that take English in high school consider it a second language, while in reality it's a fourth language. A Moroccan thing. The North leans towards Spanish. Good to have you in the country my friend and thank you for your help.
Actually the helmet thing is coz the police is more lenient on kids not wearing it
The adults don't want to wear most of the time, but do it to avoid a ticket !
I can understand the consideration of the law. Sure, let the adult wear one to avoid a penalty, but make the kid wear one to avoid death! Personally, I think the police should stop every adult who risks the health and life of his child.
@@GariSullivan i agree, it's none-sense. Both need to wear it !
Just to let you know about the kids with no helmets.. the adults only wear helmets because of the police. They don't wear it for safety. Moroccans assume they won't have an accident because of their over confidence. Its also the reason they don't worry about their kids
Yeah. I take your point. Moroccans do seem to be unaware of potential risk.
Morocco in school they say morocco is democraty country but in realty is not democraty country
I don't think any country is democratic.
@@GariSullivan we can say west have democratic than african country or asian country is fact
The reason is that the driver is wearing a helmet and the child. No, no. The police stop the driver if he is not wearing a helmet and do not care much about two passengers behind him.
The police SHOULD care. It is their job to protect all citizens - including little children; especially when their parents don't seem to care.

I can only say to you that you are welcome to my country as long as you give an addition by teaching the English language to my citizens, but no matter what level of freedom you lived in your country, my country is an Islamic country with its own beliefs and constants that must be respected. We do not impose our beliefs on you, and so on. You don't market what you see as freedom while we attack our beliefs.
There are fewer constants than you realise. I am sure Morocco was not the same 100 years ago. Look at photos of Morocco in the 1950s and 1960s. In that period, Moroccans had a lot more social freedom than they do now. What are these constants you talk of?
What made you choose Morocco as a place to live, inspite of the bad propaganda that Muslim countries generally have around the world, and do you think that there is a one true religion based on authentic historical and scientific evidences, whish we take as a guide for objective morality, otherwise it will be just subjective based on opinions. last question, where are you now at your spiritual journey.

I was handsome back in the day!
Nice to see you here.
Hi Gary, I would really appreciate if you remove the two men kissing scene from your Video! It’s very offensive to our society and values…and I hope that you’ll respect that.
I do enjoy watching your videos and it’s great to hear your point of view about our kingdom and the Moroccan lifestyle…
Btw, the man wearing the helmet is only doing it to avoid getting a ticket from the police officers, not for a safety reason. And that tells me that he’s an ignorant person and should be fined heavily.
Morocco came a long way when it comes to littering on the streets! The mentality has changed a lot and we do see a huge improvement on these matter, the streets are a lot cleaner and the city officials are doing a fantastic job of keeping our towns clean…
I totally agree with you, idiots that litter, don’t love their country and they’re just a bunch of haters and ignorants, and should also get fined heavily.
Thank you
Hi. Thanks for watching the video and taking the time to leave a comment. I won't be removing the video of the two men kissing. It is there to serve the point of Moroccans being exposed to that type of thing. I need that image to give a visual representation of what I am talking about.
On Dogs and Animals, I'll throw in a donkey, the hardest working animal used by Moroccans. Ask a local, an educated adult preferably. Why do Moroccans use the word " Hashak" after they utter the word dog (Kalb) or (Hmar) donkey ?
For the helmet part, the majority of those helmets costs less than 50dh
So they wear them just to avoid the fine related to not wearing a helmet. 😂
If they only cost 50dhs, dad's should buy a few less cigarettes, save up that money and use it to buy a helmet for their kid. The protection and care of the child should be the motivation, not the fear of a penalty.

I don’t mean this in any negative way as I have found your posts interesting and informative, but your personal views is another matter…
Dogs are not the bridge between animals and humanity, just because it’s a western thing to own a dog as I have most of my life since a child it doesn’t mean everyone should feel the same way as you feel.
The Arab and Persian cultures have been around for thousands of years longer than western society as the west came from the Persian and Middle East themselves… so you cannot come along and preach dogs are special, definitely never harm a dog as it’s a creation like any other animal, but dogs are not as clean as cats, and in Islam cats are allowed in the home whereas dogs are not allowed to be kept in the home, instead they can be kept as guard dogs or hunting dogs etc. Basically working animals to help humans…
I don’t own a cat myself as I’m not so much a cat person but just stating the facts hehe
Are you married? If not . In future you will married with a moroccan woman 😅😅😅😅❤❤❤❤
I am not married now. I doubt I will ever marry a Moroccan woman, because I would have to convert to Islam and I am very happy to be an atheist.
Salams from London. I love your videos and appreciate your POV as a white non-Muslim living in Morocco. As a 2nd generation brown Muslim born and raised in the UK I agree with many of your viewpoints apart from 09:10 and the 'liberalisation' of Moroccan society. I believe this is a faux liberalisation, driven by tourism and in particular sex tourism from the moneyed Arab countries and parts of western Europe. The clip you used at 09:10 is actually from a film about prostitution in Morocco called 'Much loved' ('Zine la fiik'). This sad situation is driven by petro-dollars, euros and pounds and so does not represent a true liberalisation of society the same way it probably occurred in Spain during the 80s, a fascinating comparison btw and one that you should do a separate video on seeing as you seem to have first hand experience of it. The second influence on this 'faux' liberalisation is social media and the internet. Again, this is something that is beamed into peoples devices or their homes and is an almost forced narrative that tells you how to thing and believe i.e. 'love is love', 'what is a man', 'smash the patriarchy' etc etc. I think Morocco beneath the carefully choreographed tourist destination, is a staunchly conservation Sunni Muslim nation, which can be considered a 'fortress' of Islam of sorts on account of its great Islamic Kings, warriors, saints and scholars. This is not something that will change quickly, if at all, despite the slightly negative influence of tourism and the internet.
Sorry for the rant, and I don't want to be confrontational or try to 'have a go'. I think you're a great chap, and your videos are very interesting especially seeing as moving to Morocco is something that I would potentially do myself further down the line as London as starting to p1 ss me off with its rents, weather and stabbings. Would be interested to hear your take on the above maybe in a future video or something like that. Keep doing what you're doing and apologies if any of my comment offends or antagonises as that wasn't my intention
