    Thank you for making this video! I love prongs; this is a wonderful way to have them without solder! I see how you struggle to work around the stone, why not try dbl tape on the bottom to hold it in place while you get the measurements?

    Great video Jim! I purchased your book to learn wire wrapping and the videos along with the book give a really good lesson. I also received the wire wrap pliers this week, have tried them and LOVE them. They definitely solved the problem I was having with even bundle wrapping. And they work great for lefties like me. Hi Jim, thank you so much for your educational, inspirational, out of the box videos on wire smithing. I have a question about silver wire. Can you share where do you get yours from? I am assuming you don't use copper wire silver plated. You mentioned using argentium wire.
    I am starting with copper until I feel confident in my work, then I want to switch. I see silver wire is priced (almost) by the foot. Any guidance on purchasing silver wire? Thank you in advance.

    • @JimMcIntosh
      @JimMcIntosh  Před 3 lety

      I purchase my sterling silver wire from Rio Grande. I've found that they usually have the best price. I don't use any plated wire, never really have. I just find that when I show/sell my work it's easier to get the price that I need if I can tell them that it is sterling or copper and not plated or filled.

    Jim, could you put the prong wires inside the bezel instead, of the outside of the stone if you wanted to???

    • @JimMcIntosh
      @JimMcIntosh  Před 3 lety

      You sure can. The important thing is that the stone is supported in such a way that it won't slip out of the setting.

    Great video! What would you say is the most used gauge of square wire?

    • @JimMcIntosh
      @JimMcIntosh  Před 3 lety +3

      That's an interesting question. In all of the pieces that I've made over the years I have 90% of the time used 21 or 22 gauge wire. And there's an interesting reason why. When I first started out I didn't have a lot of money to purchase wire. So I needed to get the most bang for my buck. I compared how many feet of wire I would receive per ounce in each gauge. I figured out the smallest gauge that I could use on a piece and still add the right amount of wire to it. Then I figured out how many pieces I could make in that gauge per ounce. I settled on 22 gauge wire as the smallest that I could go and I've pretty much stuck to that over the years, including most of the classes that I've taught. I hope that answers your question.

    I have a triangle shaped black tourmaline and i want to combine it with my cross pendant, I’m planning to wire wrap it with 4 or 5 base wire, the cross pendant has a bail built in so im gonna use that, is there any other techniques to incorporate pendants to wire wrapped pieces?
