    I just got a really beautiful pair of matching yellow sapphire trillion shaped rosecuts, but they are very small. I'm going to attempt to modify this technique by scaling it down because I think they would look awesome set like this

    I know this vid was from a year ago... but I was wondering if you remembered what kind of wire you used? I have coated copper wire, and if I filed or Dremel'd the prong tips... the coating would come off and then the copper would darken... and I think it'd look a little strange. Thanks for the videos you put out! I'm a newbie... and I appreciate your teaching style. 😊

    • @JimMcIntosh
      @JimMcIntosh  Před rokem +1

      In the video I am using 18 gauge Dead Soft Square wire. You're right about the coated wire, shaping the prong tips would look odd due to it being a different color than the rest of the wire. If you need 18 gauge wire, we carry some great copper wire on our website (wirearteducation.com) Thank you for your kind words.

    Hi Jim, I love your designs and have been practicing them on anything I can find! I have been using aluminum, copper, and craft store wire but feel I am ready to progress to the real deal. I am on a very limited income however so I wanted to know what size wire I should get to start. I want to get one square and one half round to start and add to my stash every month if I can. Would silver filled be a good option for me?

    • @JimMcIntosh
      @JimMcIntosh  Před 3 lety +2

      It all depends on what you are making and what style you are doing. If your doing some of the prong set (also known as wiresmithed) pieces then I would get 18 gauge square and half round. If you're making traditional wire wrapped pieces I would use 22 gauge square and half round.
      My basic rule when buying wire is to buy half the amount of half round wire. That means if i buy 1 ounce of square wire, I buy 1/2 ounce of half round wire. I ope this helps. If you need any more help please let me know...I'm happy to help.
