    Hey Mike: just wanted to let you know I began building a chicken coop (8’x8’) last week & used the layout method I learned from you that you used for your mini-cabin. The coop is on posts and elevated 30” off the ground-the layout method worked like a charm! Thanks for the info. I learned a lot. Really enjoy your channel-not much into firewood, but we’ve got about 37 acres in east TX, and there’s always something that needs to be done. Started watching the channel when it was primarily you & the Kubota. Learned a lot about taking care of my road from you as well. I wish you, Melissa and your family the best. Thanks again for all the good info you guys put out.

    I was glad to see you putting those decking boards tight together, in a year you will have an eighth of an inch gap and in two years you will have a quarter of an inch gap what with how that pressure treated lumber shrinks. Good video, thumbs up.

      In Australia we leave 6mm to 8mm gap between the boards because the boards swell it depends on how much moisture in the timber from old retired aussie builder

    Morgans in the morning, that is the way to wake up. It is nice to see Hunter out and about. Melissa and Ava, beautiful as always. Mike, did you say you once did blasting for a living? That is a job where doing things just right is vital. My Grandfather was coal miner, who did much of his own blasting. This included cutting a road out of a hillside by hanging off the edge drilling blast holes with a jack hammer. No wonder you always use protective gear and want things just right. That is the mark of a professional and someone one should learn from. Best wishes and God bless you all!!

    Hay Mike, Now what you need to do is to pull up all those stair treads and treat all the cut edges of the stringers with that anchor seal to help prevent rotting, even on treated lumber. And where I live, you'd have to put joist hangers under each stringer to meet code.

  • @JeffGeorgalas
    @JeffGeorgalas Před 3 lety

    Just a tip for future use. If you router just the top outside edge of your treads, they'll last a lot longer. You don't have to go crazy with the router, just use it to take the sharp edge off of the tread real quick, and the treads will last twice or three times as long.

    Mike, this is going to sound weird, but while you are working there on your cabin stand, maybe try this. Dig a hole about 4 feet deep with the backhoe, it doesn't have to be wide, fill it up with a scoop or two of clean 57's or 3/4 stone, run a hose from the gravel up to inside the cabin and a funnel at the top and you have yourself a urinal that is hard to smell. Not for daily use or anything, but good for emergencies. Cap the gravel with some landscape fabric so dirt doesn't silt in and cover with 2 feet of dirt or so.
