#80.2BN Fraud: EFCC Chairman Vows to Resign, If Yahaya Bello is Not Prosecuted

  • The dilemma over the attempt to prosecute the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello is putting the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC under the spotlight. But the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, has vowed to pursue it to a logical conclusion. Olukoyede vowed to resign as EFCC chairman, if the embattled former Kogi Governor is not prosecuted. He also vowed that those who obstructed the arrest of Bello will be brought to justice. Meanwhile, the anti-graft agency has arrested the immediate past Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika over alleged 8.06 billion naira fraud. The EFCC has also slammed a new four-count charge on former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele. The fresh charges border on alleged approval of printing of 684 million naira at the rate of 18.96 billion naira.

How can you shun Gandollar, Wike, Niger and Lagos state Governors - in fact, which state Governor in the country has utilized funds in his state judiciously? To focus solely on Yahaya Bello is being openly biased. Even the courts won’t find him guilty if he were foolish enough to go go when there’s already a social media trial against him! They are simply after their own share and he’s probably not willing to give them the extortionate amount they’re demanding through the back door.
I’m sure you’re aware that the Lagos state government gets more IGR than every other state in the country yet has been unable tackle the issue of proper waste disposal and build appropriate drainage systems to tackle the recurring menace of flood during the rainy season every year. Instead, they’re boasting about a stupid lightweight train that serves less that 1% of commuters in the state! Mind you, the amount spent on that same train over the past 19 years is multiple times over what Kenya spent on its high quality trains. Dude, Yahaya Bello would be a big fool if he allows himself to be disgraced any clown in Nigeria.

Compare that with how much Kenya spent on their more sophisticated and more qualitative train infrastructure and then see for yourself who’s more corrupt. Mind you, Lagos has the highest IGR in the country and somehow still can’t find a solution to its waste disposal and yearly flooding problems. Instead of opposing plans by other states to make their ports operational because of the returns they’d be getting as income, the FG should focus on allowing other ports to function so as so reduce the workload and traffic on the Apapa port - which clearly is being overwhelmed with traffic congestion. The overpopulated city itself won’t allow for its effective and efficient functioning.

However on this Yahaya Bello's case please I beg you passionately to please treat it same way you have been lamenting about other corruption cases ongoing like that of ex-CBN governor Emefiele , the ex- accountant general of the federation under PMB etc. The way and manner APC member-Yahaya Bello (Same party with President Tinubu) have been evading justice, is nothing to be supported by anyone without sentiments for him. Why can't he surrender himself like Fayose and Femi Fani Kayode did??? though I'm not a fan of these 2 but they did faced the law. Please I didn't enjoy watching you yesterday on Journalist Hangout defending the indefensible. Please stop it!

Its disheartening seeing young people of kogi state, and the sitting governor coming out to prevent law to take its course.
