I've had ultimate compound in the arsenal for a while. Sometimes it works better than HD speed and sometimes speed works. It also depends on customers expectations and what they pay for. I've had ultimate compound work when others wouldn't and sometimes it doesn't work. That's when trying different compounds and pads in a troubleshooting scenario is beneficial. But for a novice this is more realistic. They would more than likely not have a good polisher, not be experienced enough to use a rotery, and probably only be using a foam cutting pad. Good job. Keep bringing good content.

The polish and compound both are diminishing abrasive types and even the compound can finish out to a near coatable surface with the right foam pad.

Doesn't sound right, but it cleaned up the 1500 nicely and made the 2000 worse. Maybe the shine difference between sanding and polishing at the same grit is the polish leaves it wetter looking. Idk, just thinkin

My 2016 truck was repainted three years ago and the paint is in great shape with no swirls but just a couple of moderate scratches and no dents (knock wood). If I use compound to buff out those scratches, do I need to compound the entire vehicle before polishing and waxing? My challenge is the small time windows provided by Colorado's hot summer weather (with unforecasted light rain bursts in the afternoon), and the fact that my truck doesn't fit in my garage. Depending on the scratches, I'd probably wet-sand them down with 3000 grit, then follow up with 5000 grit.
      Then compound, and then polish.
You'll want to sand approximately an inch to each side, with each sanding step, to feather out your work.
If scratches are through the clear coat, it's a whole different ballgame.

This brings back memories of Meguiar's performing corrections with UC, yellow foam polishing pads, and the G110v2.
There are a lot of internet detailers getting triggered by a readily available compound performing up to, and sometimes over the fashionable crap they paid too much money for.
Nice job, Jimbo. I've had that stuff remove 1000 grit using a green hex logic on a pc.
In my situation, it was utilizing the non diminishing abrasives like a sanding disc. The green pad though softer, is more aggressive than the orange. I find the stiffness of the uro tech pads works against cutting ability because they give up too much surface area, and resist conforming to surface irregularities. One of the reasons the Meguiar's Microfiber cutting disc is so successful is from it's ability to conform to surface irregularities, where the stiffer pads make you fight the process.
Ultimate Polish has been killing it lately for me as a one step with those green pads, and finishing with the blue. Old school stuff works. Just because it isn't fashionable doesn't mean anything. Just because something is fashionable doesn't mean it's better.
    The 80/20 rule.

You will get a far better distribution of your compound if you apply it to your da and then press it on the surface, lift of, press on, lift of (6 to 9 times) over the whole surface you want to polish. Instead of appling a big circle in the middle and wiping it all over the place. You have to much compound in the middle and not enough on the sides. You will have much better results if you apply it evenly on different spots.

Both the ULTIMATE and 105 cover-up the real situation.
Soak the area with Megs APC 1:3 for 3mins, agitate with mitt, rinse, blow dry…and you will immediately see that BOTH have great “cover-up” abilities.
But thats unavoidable because most Americans are obsessed with low-dusting and long workability. Hence, more oils need to be incorporated to “hold” the abrasives together while providing prolonged lubrication for longer work times.
And those oils are unintentionally covering up the marring.

I am sure that using a microfiber cutting pad with Ultimate Compound would make a huge difference. In my experience, the difference in cut from foam to microfiber is like night and day. The porter cable is a very weak polisher, so if you are gonna use a consumer grade compound with it, it will need all the help it can get. In terms of cut, UC is more like a one step polish than a true cutting compound. I don't know if it can remove 1500 scratches with a porter cable but I am sure you would get a much better result with microfiber. Especially good ones like the ones from Meguiars.

You are not doing a true comparison....you are going over what you have already done. So you don't know if you would have went a longer time with the Mequiars would have given better results. You need 3 or 4 sections to compare. This is now right what you are doing.

You can definitely level 1500-2000 grit sanding marks with ultimate compound, it’s not my first choice, but it can be done. It levels 1500-2000 grit when paired with a twisted wool cutting pad and a rotary polisher or using a 15mm or 21 mm throw machine paired with a wool or microfiber cutting pad, also with a forced rotation machine. It’s not going to do much when paired with an 8mm throw DA like in this video. You’ll have a hard time leveling 1500 grit using an 8mm throw DA with any compound, that machine isn’t designed for leveling 1500 grit sanding marks, you’re wasting time. Check out this video, proof that ultimate compound can level 1500-2000 grit sanding marks. czcams.com/video/7tAX9rtoNpE/video.htmlsi=4DtglHSHj-o60mSD

Sand paper on paint? Not good. Most modern paint/clear coat finishes, you hopefully will never touch paint. Clear coat scratches only. Try compound, polish, wax. Sand paper will always have that ugly haze which will show up again as wax/sealeant wears off. Unless extreme scratches/swirling skip sand paper. My experience.

I usually don’t have an issue with sanding if I make sure to remove all the sanding scratches while buffing

Hahaha... Stupid comparison 😄. If you did ultimate compound second time on the same panel, you would have gotten the same results as with that other one. You don't compare products by polishing over already polished section. Rediculous

I seriously wonder how you’ve got to where you are. Most of your videos are flawed. You’re using a a first generation porter cable and a foam pad to remove sanding marks? Are you kidding me? At least use a MF cutting pad with the poor little porter cable. This test is irrelevant.

    • @RenzoSpeed3
      @RenzoSpeed3 Před 5 lety +11

He is using the Porter Cable to show if a cheap machine can generate good results, then when you have a quality machine you can get even better results. He understands the Porter Cable scenario, but its been explained in numerous videos why he uses it in his demonstrations.
