By hand also preserves the paint. It is labor intensive if done correctly. Machine polishing should be done a few years apart. Otherwise, if you regularly use high speed polishing, you'll thin out the paint. Recently, I noticed this trend of "paint correction". Unnecessary unless you have neglected car.

  • @hitardo
    @hitardo Před 3 lety +3

    Awesome video!
I hand polish and added a sealant to my 1996 Peugeot 106 1.1L.
It was very hard on the arm, especially because I had to prior wash it (initiating by the rims), hand wash, and clay the entire car prior to the polish and sealant.
But it was really worth it.
The car is old, not worth much, but it is my daily driver.
Thus, it was not worth spending the money for a professional polish, or even to buy a polish machine to be used once a year.
So, I take matter into my own hands.
As it was an old car, in a white colour, the benefits were noticeable!
Especially because the swirls are not that visible in the white colour, and also I think because there were a lot of contamination in that paint that were removed by claying and polishing.
It put a smile on my face, and even my girlfriend was amazed with the end result - but not a fan of the receipt for all the products I have used.
Now, I am thinking on doing the same to my 2011 Renault Megane Grandtour 1.5 dCi.
It is not a very valuable car, but it is my girlfriend's daily driver, and the family car - to go to weeding, family dinners, and so on.
I hand it over to a professional upon buying it. But, since then, I built some knowledge, and want to do it myself.
On my Peugeot I used the NextZett No. 3 (Polish) and NextZett No. 4 (Sealant).
On my Megane I am not sure if I am going to keep with the NextZett, or change to Meguire's.
Nevertheless, this video gave me the confidence I needed!
    Cheers mate!

Hey, I am always interest in what type of towels you experts 💦 use and would like to hear something
like, "blah blah blah the wax using a plush 310 GSM or low pile duel side etc. It's hard to see on the video and I always buy the wrong cloth for the job 😂
Also with the application microfibre, could you use a white terry version as I note over the Counter they can come in s 3 pack. Microfibres/Terry/Foam.
    👍🏼🇦🇺

Hello my towels i use are from a company called autosmart in the UK. These days you can tell which ones will let you down.I know costco do yelow cloths that are sold globally which i used to use on polishing. I see what you mean yes ill make a note to mention different cloth piles etc thanks for helping me get the right information out. Yes any type of microfibre pad works well for this . Ive used many and the foam yellow pads are good and cheap

Another great video Dave - loved the description about people who comment about not taking the labels off the mcrofibre cloths hahahaha. Also appreciate your honesty about not needing a whole host of car care products and equipment to make a real difference to a car's appearance. That Meguiars Ultimate Compound looks a good buy. A few years ago - decades more like, I remember compounding a freshly repainted car by hand to get rid of the orange peel and bring some shine to the freshly painted panels. There wasn't the range of stuff that there is today so used the trusty Farecla G3 rubbing compound paste followed by T-Cut or Brasso with Simoniz liquid diamond polymer sealant to finish. It was knackering and it's probably fair to say car care products have moved on somewhat, but nether the less those products and some elbow grease made the car look great.

Thanks Karl, I remember G3 used to always powder up. Was a nightmare. Meguiars really know how to keep it simple and effective 👌

I used to detail cars 20 years ago. and i'll tell you what you hit the nail on the head, most of customers are not looking for perfection in a paint finish, most of my customers just wanted a well done interior (100% cleaned) and a wash polish and wax--i never used compound.

The first time I used the polish was on a car that was a little older and I did not clay bar or compound. Good video. I have gone from a polishing worrier to a polishing warrior !! I have just ordered the Meguiars Ultimate compound and wax to do my car. I have a 2014 white Fiesta. The paintwork is in really good condition.... apart from swirls, and I want to have a go at getting them out. This video has given me the confidence to have a go. I don't want to spend money on a polisher if I am only going to polish the car every couple of years.
