Turtle Wax 1 & Done versus Meguiar's Ultimate Compound

    Turtle Wax have release the new Hybrid Solutions Pro range, including the all new 1 & Done compound.
    The idea is that you only need the one compound and control the levels of cut and finish by changing the pad type.
    Is this idea feasible? Does it work? And how does it compare to the age-old favourite Meguiar's Ultimate Compound?

    In the video I only had US$ prices so did basic conversion. I now see that this is well off as TW have put UK£ prices at £30!
    My opinion on the prices is that it is too expensive, for the market, and the product. Sorry if this upsets anyone, but it just isnt worth £30.

    For the average car today for showroom shine and most cost effective . Clay bar if needed Mothers brand . Then Meguiar's Ultimate Compound with a Lake Country Orange light cut pad . Followed by Meguiar's Polishing formula with a Lake Country Black polishing pad . When done , apply Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic Coating , let cure for 24 hours , then repeat . Fantastic results car looks great for about 6 months . For in between wash's spray on Turtle Wax Hybrid Detailer. For Compound and polish process once a year .

    My expectations of a one step paint correction does not exceed 70%. And those are the best of conditions. I will never expect three step results from Megs compound or the other. I will take my time, do it right, and use something great like Koch products and at least two steps. They are fantastic. Great video man!

    Great review video! One thing I noticed is that the turtle wax's ad says it can be used with any aggressiveness of pad, but Meg's compound, I think, is meant to be used with a cutting pad rather than a finishing pad. I would switch to Ultimate Polish when using a finishing pad for the last step. Anyway I want to give 1 & Done a try!

    I really appreciate your video. Thank you for posting. My understanding is that Turtle Wax 1 and Done is designed as a single step paint correction product. Meguiars Compound on the other hand, is designed as part of a three step process and teamed up with their Ultimate Polish and Ultimate Wax. The hazing you noticed with the Meguiars Compound is removed later with application of the Ultimate Polish and the surface is finally finished with their Ultimate Wax. I was impressed to see how well Meguiars Compound performed against the Turtle Wax which contains ingredients to deliver that finished appearance that is advertised and we all enjoy. I walk away from your video believing that Turtle Wax One and Done is likely a time saver (and perhaps an overall cost saver) when compared to Meguiars and their three products needed for paint correction. We all know that time is money regardless if you are a pro detailer or DIY guy like me. Thanks again.

      The turtle wax is also part of a 3 step process.
      The turtle wax process is
      1. One and done compound

      3. Finish off with Turtle wax graphene Flex spray Wax.

    • @bludika
      @bludika Před rokem +1

      turtle wax 1 and done is also a 2 step process, it's a matter of what pad you use. If you need a more deeper cutting, then you use the cutting pad, then you also need to polish again using a polishing pad for the final polishing. Then you can finish with wax. The one and done is just that you ONLY need 1 bottle, instead of requiring Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish. So ultimately, it's cheaper for you since you're only buying 1 bottle of One and Done

    Very good video and the first one I‘ve seen which doesn’t just rave about the Turtle Wax but just shows and tells how it is - which once again raises some question marks about other reviews out there and how „real“ or „honest“ they are.
    What would have been extremely interesting would have been if you would have cut those two test sections in half with a tape, hit it with an IPA or similar to test whether those two products actually removed paint defects or also contain fillers of some sort.
    And if you have a test spot left on that test panel it would be incredibly interesting to see how Sonax Cut&Finish does in comparison because I personally think that it will do better in the cut AND the finish department.

    I started using the random orbitals back in 2013.
    I was using a rotary since 1998.
    Because I started with Meguiar's in the 90's, I picked their Ultimate line, with the compound and polish.
    The tool was a Porter Cable 7424xp, and the pads were green, blue, and red Hex Logic from Chemical Guys.
    So, as I type this I got out all the old friends...
    Yes, I've owned the Flex 3401, I have several Rupes Polishers. I have a TON of modern pads from Rupes, Buff and Shine, and Lake Country.. I've been through several polish lines - Menzerna, Sonax, Jescar, Optimum, Koch, CarPro, Poorboys, Rupes, and 3D.
    Im sitting here considering going back to my original orbital set up. It was so effective and very easy to use.
    The star of the show today?
    Meguiar's Ultimate Polish.
    That stuff has been a loyal friend since 2013. If I use it with the green Hex Logic it makes an excellent one step polish. It has always finished down beautifully on these blue Hex pads, or yelow Rupes pads, it smells fantastic, and it's very in expensive. It can even cut pretty good with a wool or microfiber pad. I think I'm going to order a couple cases as a Christmas gift to myself! 😂
    Great video, and thank you for taking the time to do it.
    PS - If Ultimate Polish is difficult to wipe off, shake it up very, VERY thoroughly. It might take a minute, but it will eventually sort itself out. Well worth the effort.

I've been using Ultimate Compound for touchups and wetsanding individual scratches by hand, but I'm a TW guy so I figured try this one since it claims it can finish too. @DetailingandtheBeast  Před 3 lety

      I checked them between passes, obviously I panel wiped after each set to see what was there. But that's ultimately not the point here, I was checking out the ability to offer differing levels of cut by keeping the same product and only varying the pad. That's why initially multiple different defects were added, to see what did, and didnt get removed. The finish at the end should have been highly refined regardless (given I used the whole array of pads), which for my liking it wasnt (on either section!)
      I prefer to use a pad and compound combo, rather than just using various pads on the same compound.

      So, if you use one of these "one cut" compounds like the 1&Done, then they claim you dont need any more than one product. This is fast and relatively decent.
      If you use a set of compounds and complete more sets, so like a 3 different levels of compound, you will get a much better level of correction, with more defect removal, with a more better finish in terms of clarity and colour depth. But ultimately this will take much longer.

      So let’s say A new 2022 Ford Escape, my wife’s, kept clean from day one, 303 grapheme coated, not garage kept, minimal correction needed but want that percent shine?? M302 and black pad also??

    • @DetailingandtheBeast
      @DetailingandtheBeast  Před 2 lety +1

      @@coreybell6398 depends on the correction. But Ford paint is very easy to correct. If its got light swirls only and it's just a gloss up you need, then yes.
      If there are any other defects then medium pad on 5.01 and then 3.02 on black.

      Me too. Just running out of SPF, and intrigued to here how they compare. I like SPF, so TW has hill to climb, especially given prices difference in Europe, where Sonax is good value.

    I don't believe you are comparing apples to apples. The Megs is marketed as an entry level compound, while the TW is marketed as a professional grade. The Megs cost about $15.00 (US) & the TW is about $30.00 (US). Megs is available almost anywhere in a retail store, but TW is not available retail in the US. These are my thoughts, excellent job.

    • @delukxy
      @delukxy Před 3 lety

      There are a lot of American detail channels that have tested TW products so they must be generally available there. Often the same product gets different names but that is just crafty marketing. They are made in the USA and cost a lot less there than in the UK for example. This difference is becoming wider as the products get more high tech. Personally I don't go for the hype type of selling. The gullible end up with shelves full of part used bottles and a thin wallet.

      @DetailingandtheBeast  Před 3 lety +5

      Each pad was primed and used correctly my friend. If I show you priming and loading each pad, that would be 8 times the footage!
      Sometimes things have to be taken as implied.
      It is clear to see in the shots that an amount of compound gets added.
      I got hazing because the product didnt finish down sufficiently.
