  • Welcome to the Meguiar's CZcams Channel.
    Patrick, our resident videographer and photographer has been with us 5 months now and has NO IDEA how to take care of his car.
    Many people like Patrick can sometimes get lost in the sea of car care products. What do I wash my car with? How can I keep it clean after I've washed it? It's the simple things that we want to help and educate you on.
    So, introducing "Detailing 101". A step by step guide on the basics of car care, featuring Patrick and his BMW E36. During this series you'll see us educate Patrick on the most simple ways to Wash, Clean & Prep, Polish, Protection and Maintain his car.
    Our aim is to share with you the simplest forms of car care, whether you're a non car guy, a car enthusiast, or someone that just wants to further their knowledge about detailing or the Meguiar's product range.
    The biggest bug bare of any enthusiast, detailer or a general guy or gal that likes a clean car is SWIRLS AND SCRATCHES. In this video we explain how they appear on your paint work and the very easy step to removing them with the legendary Meguiar's Ultimate Compound.

    If you can't position the machine flat on the panel due to obstacles (for example the area between the door hand and the window, or areas on the bumper), does that mean you should avoid using the machine entirely and apply manually by hand? Or is it ok to use the tip of the pad to get to hard-to-reach areas?
    Never used a machine before and I'm a bit nervous to ruin the surface.

    I have never b4 done this and want to make my car glossy and remove the marks, but I want to do it myself with Meguiar products and not from shop.

    Good video, great series! It looks easy working on the big panels, but what about the small areas with more bents and curves? It is nice to have beginners guide, but they are the ones who can get easily in trouble when they do not have an idea how to tackle the curves and the edges where the paint is thinner. Try to show the complete process from start to finish. If you are a prof detailer, you would have an expensive 1 inch air polisher, but that's not the case with home detailers. How to tackle the small areas (under the door handles for example) should be the next video I guess? Keep up the good work. I think what I meant was does it have clear coat on top

    • @meguiarsuk
      @meguiarsuk  Před 5 lety

      If there was colour transfer on the pad then it would mean the car doesn't have a clear coat. This isn't an issue however as the Ultimate Compound revives faded or dull paint. see our Day In The Bay with the MK1 Golf. czcams.com/video/I3B4bMYRLgU/video.html

    Can I use the waterless wash and wax before compounding, as I do not have access an external water outlet?

      If the car is not heavily covered in dirt/mud then yes. However it wont replace your general bucket and shampoo and wash mitt.

    Hi! If my car is almost brand new (6 months, 6000km), should I use Ultimate Compound or Ultimate Polish just to remove light swirls before ceramic coating? Thank you

    Hi Meguiars,i have this a try for the very first time on my car bonnet,I used the auto finesse DA polisher and there orange pad,I cleaned and dried the car and clayed the bonnet,put a tap down the middle as you did and done a small ish part but i didn’t really see much empowerment tbh,is it because of the bad or because i might not of done as many passes,I only done about 2/3 passes as was a little scared of going through my paint even tho people say my paint will be fine,please could you tell me the best pad to use with your ultimate compound,plus iv also got your 3 in 1 witch is also for swerl marks but i believe the ultimate compound is the more stronger one for swerls,please correct me if I’m wrong and again please help me on the pads i should be using,colour point is black magic purl on a golf gti mk5 and a tornado ref (golf gti mk5) but it’s the black one that needs it a little more,the tornado red has swerls but only light ones,not sure if that information was needed but thought I’d give you it incase it helps me...thank you and hope to here soon 🙏🏻

      Ultimate Compound is the best product for defect removal and paint restoration. 3-in-1 is a one hit wax that has some defect removal properties along with the polish & wax attributes but is not as effective as Ultimate Compound if you are just looking at defect removal. The important variables to consider when using with a dual action polisher are 1) the speed of the machine, to give you context if you were to use the Meguiar's MT320 we would suggest a speed of 4800-5800 OPM's. 2) Hand speed. With ultimate compound you need to move maybe an inch per second to give the pad and the compound time to work the surface. 3) Quantity of product, make sure the pad is suitably covered with the product. 4) number of passes. With Defect removal multiple passes are sometimes necessary especially with harder paints/deeper defects. 5) The pad. Our best pad for use with the Ultimate Compound is the DFC5 (5") or DFC6 (6").

    If you are using the compound by hand do you do circle or hashtag motion?

    • @meguiarsuk
      @meguiarsuk  Před 5 lety

      When using Ultimate Compound by hand you can use the "hashtag" effect a bit more liberally. It doesn't really matter as long as the product is being worked in

    Can I apply Hybrid Ceramic Wax after doing this? Do I have to wait or I can do it right after?

    • @meguiarsuk
      @meguiarsuk  Před 5 lety

      The Hybrid wax is best used after washing the car. The wax is activated by the water.

      I used ultimate compound, followed by ultimate polish and finished with ultimate liquid wax using their DA. The results were truly stunning, not just saying that, car looks amazing for it.

    Good video, however in your 'Top 10 don'ts with DA polishing' video it says Don't start and stop the machine whilst on the paintwork, but the guy in this video does exactly that.

    After using clay bar for the car, do I need to wash the car before compounding by hand, or can I jump straight into this stage?

    How do you clean the pads between sections or do you change pads after each panel?

    • @meguiarsuk
      @meguiarsuk  Před 5 lety

      For pad maintenance you can use a vacuum to hover off any dried product. As well as this all our cloths and pads are machine washable
