- Is Meguiars Scratch X the Best Car Paint Scratch Remover? Does it even Work? I show you how to remove scratches By hand from your cars paint using this best selling Meguiar's Product.
In this Video I will show you how to use it on a variety of scratches on my Car
I also show you how to o use it By Hand and Machine polisher (DA Polisher)
We talk about some of the issues that may face when using this on light scratches or Deep Scratches. Also just to note we are skipping all the decontamination process as most weekend warriors won't even bother doing that so no clay bar or fallout remover.

If you can feel the scratch with your finger it won’t work. It’s too deep . It works for light scratches and when things brush against your car.
Thank you for the video Dave. Absolutely spot on about having realistic expectations of what a product can do. Too many people believe the marketing hype and become disappointed when it doesn't perform miracles.
Thanks Karl. I did like the product but i think educating people is the key so they understand everything before they buy it
Once again another fantastic and informative video Dave
Dave thank you again from across the pond and for making a great video. You are helping detailer's in our business who doesn't have a massive budget to buy expensive products. It is helpful for removing light and fine scratches. I also liked the Clare Balding picture and the Aquaman it's harmful to him too. Have a great day and thank you again!
Lol thanks mate
I've used this after Jack knifing a trailer into a bumper on my last car and really did work the marks out well. I found a damp Autosmart foam applicator was best for using with this . Also helps with headlight discolouration, I've no quarms with it but as you say its not setting expectations too high and you will be fine
Exactly everyone has different expectations
Hey man bloody awesome video, love the humour thrown in as well keeps the viewers entertained, first video of yours I've watched and can say I'll be watching many more 😊❤️
Thanks so much I appreciate every single supporter 🙏
Great video looks well worth the money to me for the daily cars , like you say it’s ideal for the kind of scratches you get when you brush past a hedge kinda thing , do you think it’ll help applying some super reason polish over the top? Gotta be worth a shot I reckon 👍
Great video! The paintwork on my car is in similar condition - pretty swirled, and with a few deeper scratches. I’ve just ordered a DA machine polisher but I’m not sure what compound to use…What would you recommend please?
Thats what my wife said last night....classic one, mate👌
Hi DAVE I ASK YOU !! Have you experienced using carbon collective exfoliation block the videos I found I do not think they know what they were going cheers Brian another top video from you thanks
Love your videos, great jaunty manner.
Thank you 🙏
Very nice video do you think this would be safe in glossy B Pillar door trims? Thanks
Really appreciate your thoroughness and honesty in presenting this video review, however, I wonder if plain old rubbing compound might work just as well. Btw- Dave my guess in respect to slight "halo" or discoloration you noted especially when polishing the rear side quarter panel, this could be because the product is "eating into" the clear coat which is used on all car paints from 2001 to date. If my guess is correct (and I don't know for certain it is) but if it is, this product and your "elbow grease" could be doing more harm than good. In any event, the product is way over rated and NOTHING short of professional body work (probably sanding and re-painting) would restore deep scratches in a car's paint finish. Thanks mate.
So I have this issue where I can see a slight blemish on my passenger door after use. I am afraid you may be right, and I’d love some tips here. I’ve tried polish and wax so far but I walked by my vehicle and could still see it. What can I do?
Good content, Dave. I reckon you could chuck a sealant over that and give the polymers and fillers a longer life 🤔. All the best 👍.
Yeah it would make it last longer. One for the car traders maybe. I can see where it works in many scenarios
This is probably the best real life review of this product I've ever seen! Honest and true results with proper expectations.
Thank you :)
I've used Scratch X for years. If used in the correct way and on the right kind of scratch/mark it is an excellent product.
Like swirly scratches from a car wash?
@@indigogo5925 Yes it should remove those quite easily
Been using it for years. It works well.
Looks like a good product and easy to use just never expect miracles like you say :)
Great video thank you:)
thanks Jonathon
My motto is "better then before". So i dont need it to go away, just make it better then it was =)
Good video 👍
Thanks so much ✔️✌️
You're welcome 😊
I've used this a while ago on a red Nissan. It looked OK at first but as soon as you wash the car again the fine scratches reappear.
Just used it on 2 month old promaster black. Scratches were from a thin tree branch barely going down the side....it put like sand paper swirl scratches all the way down that I used it
I used it and it looked more or less fine BUT after 20 days going to my local carwash, the scratches were again visible as before. So, my conclusion it is the wax that's hiding the scratches. I'm wondering when people post a review whether they did it right after applying this product or wait until the car was washed after a period of time and evaluate again.
good video would have been nice to have another product that would remove the the heavier scratches
Although I do have machine polishers I also have this product on hand. It is ideal for those small light scratches you find every now and then. Find it works best with a soft microfibre.
definitely 100%
“That’s something I said to my wife last night” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I died
Wow nice work Dave. Would you prefer to use AG super resin polish over this? AG seems to have a nice following. I recently picked up a cheap DA from Argos but don't have the bravery to use some compound with it and do my cars. Yes I know I'm a coward but I'm terrified at ruining my paint. I have no clue about the thickness of the clear coat, what speed and pads I should use on it etc. Or even what is the best compound to use for that particular paint like Rupez or Koch Chemie etc.
Super resin is a filler, it doesn't remove scratches. Still a good product, but scratches will return after a few washes.
I tried some meguires ultimate on some graze like scratches. It done f all. Gonna get some koch h9 and see if its more aggressive.
Been using this with a touch up pen to make deep scratches not so noticeable...use the pen don't worry about being sloppy..let dry a few min then go over with scratch x to remove excess..paint marker stays in the scratch
Can use it with micro fiber only? Or must with application pad?
One thing I will say if you have had your car ceramic coated it's virtually impossible to remove even light scratches as the coating is very resistant to products like this so be warned.
Should hit it with an IPA afterwards to see if a wax or glaze is in the product.
Good work.
Thank you for the lovely content as always :) Do you think this could be used to remove micro scratches from piano black trims?
Honestly a fine compound would be better
@@epicautomotivedetailing Thanks for your response. I'd probably do it by hand - would you recommend a product?
@@epicautomotivedetailing Thank youl. Would you recommend any? I would be doing it by hand.
What happens after a few washes?
It’s like you said good for very fine stuff ,but anything else you need something with more cut,I’ve tryed it on a few cars and found it had no real advantage
What was the other product you mentioned a few times? Cartac? Car tech?
I have haze marks after using I. Could it be because I didn't do it enough
the polymer is filling also the scratches, i tried one time but wasn't that suprised after cleaning it with stripwash al of the polymers where gone and a lot of small scratches where back. although the filling capability is really good in my opinion, but a good compound will remove a lot more scratches, this one is more a filler then a polish
Yep 100% agree. Its amazing because it's a best seller on Amazon so just shows how easy people can buy something based on a name and not it's true capabilities
Do u wax before or after this
I think these products make it look better for a while which is probably what the average joe wants? It's not going to remove all but it will make it look better I guess which is good enough for 99% of people. Good video that shows what results you can get. Where was the knock off chocolate bars tho 🤔!!!
lol im cutting down on them
It’s a great product, used it over 10 years ago, obviously the Porsche and BMW driving Detailing Snobs won’t want to be caught using it.
Yeah it's good for the beginner and I think by hiding fillers it gives the beginner audience a bit of confidence even if it may not exactly be perfect
Hi Dave, at about the 5:15 mark you mentioned this haze or blemish left behind. I used this product around a few door handles and also the side of a door. Now I am left with a slight blemish I can’t seem to remove. Is there anything I can do or do you know what may have happened here? I was not in the sun nor did I let the product dry. Could this be the product eating away my clear coat? I have a 2022 so I’m not sure if I can do anything to fix it or if I’m up the creek. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
This has also happened to me. Any answers?
Can I use a towel to put scratch x cream on it
that comment with your wife caught me off gaurd 🤣
She wasn't happy either 🤣
Meguiars Ultimate Compound is my go to. Stuff it great.
Very jealous of the moderate pressure turbo hand 🤣
lol its a force 😅
Pumping the videos out 3PO!
always mate. its my full time job now. If i dont upload i dont make money
Next demo a product for the plastic trim.👍😉
Got one on the way
It works. To an extent.
Perfect finish & don’t call me Shirley
I bet it’s full of fillers. As soon as you wash the car the scratches ( fine ) will reappear. Great job Dave. Love the Turbo hand😂😂
Which products don’t have fillers
"That sounds like something I said to my wife the other night"
Duuuude ain't no way you slipped that in there like that 😂😂
How coincidental mine just arrived today!!
Good luck hopefully you get good weather to use it
@@epicautomotivedetailing Asia climate is summer day in and day out thankfully. Although im still in a bit of a dilemma if I should have paid more for the 2.0 instead
It’s really good on piano black interior trim btw
Nice
Hii, which is more aggressive between this and the Meguiar's compound? Thanks
I would say the compound was better
So, what's the difference between this and the Meguiar's Ultimate Compound? I'm not a detailer or a car paint obsessive, just a guy who likes his car to look nice. I lived in London for nearly 30 years and didn't need a car, so having moved back home (rural) I now have a car again and want to keep it looking good 🙂
Ultimate compound is better
@@epicautomotivedetailing Thanks 👍
Hi, I watch your channel and a good few other detailing channels with great interest and appreciation. Yet, none of you have addressed the current elephant in the room. We at southeastern water have a hose pipe ban, " discuss" pre rinse, snow foam, and everything else Not Allowed! Whaddya do?
Ok I can make it simple: commercial use yes, domestic use no. It's crazy as pressure washers use hardly any water. Most people end up using more water in the bath easily when you work out how much actually gets used
@@epicautomotivedetailing couldn't agree more, I used about 4 buckets drizzling shampoo water over my str before I dared going for the contact wash and even then I was cringing. Still, so long as the shareholders are ok 🙄
Sounds like a turntablism competition. I bought something similar for my bro's wife who had driven down a hedge and done a double key-like scratch every panel. I realised it was just a firm cutting compound of which I could have used anything i own already to do it and rsults in my application were never going to fix it, just make it less noticable by blending up to it. I mean it worked to a point but it took ages and many passes not to mention it was hard work. This is def for people without a polisher and left a haze like you showed. Worked better by applying with a small-folded interior microfibre cloth (like your grey wipe-off one, rather than a sponge as that gave it a bit more bite. Oh, and poor Aquaman!
Lol thanks mate. Poor Clare balding more like 😅
@@epicautomotivedetailing can only have so much sympathy for anyone who choses such an unflattering haircut tbh. Im still siding with the man of aqua. NIce vid, im loving these inpromptu videos. I now youve changed a lot recently with the range going on hold but the channel is going great, ful of good stuff tips and most of all cracks me up and I'm not one to do an IRL LOL at YT videos. Take that as you will! :D
Carpro essence easily best product in this category
Is it working with sky silver metallic color or just black?
would be better with silver for sure
Ama-zin
I've got some of this stuff but never use it as it's junk. Pretty much all other products and compounds work better. Waste of money and I'm usually a fan of Maguires products.
What’s the best all in one product? You said at the end you would go with a all in one bit which one? Let us know that would be great.. cheers
Rupes uno protect
This KIA is the best car I ever had..
Thanks mate. You mentioned an "all in 1" product could work better, but could you give an example of a good one then? I have no idea where to start with that
Any good for removing light scratches for piano black interiors?
It's ok considering it doesn't powder up
What guitar is in the case?
No idea, my son has loads of guitars he uses the studio to play them
Can you use this as a swirl marks remover by hand?
yes it hides those swirls but i think its mainly reliant on the polymer wax hiding the imperfections so you will need to keep on top of it
@@epicautomotivedetailing I'm already using an all in one product (polish, glaze and wax). By the look of it, it'll be performing the same.
2:07 😂😂😂
It's just a luster. It has no polishing compound.
It's good for matte paints?
Noooo he said that in the beginning
Yes they are paying the review supermen for their products reviews. In Amazon world we call them “Genies”. They are definitely doing something right 😂😂
I actually bought this . Trust me I tried to get it for free from Meguiars but I'm not big enough by their standards lol
as somebody who knows nothing about cars, just the absolute delusional audacity to learn how to fix my own car, this stuff works pretty dang good in my opinion lol
01:27 It's those Pomylers they may work their magic but they'll liquidise your giblets.
Prefer turtle wax products. ., especially all there new stuff … better than maguires
So, it's a modern day T-Cut then?
It's good in terms of doing what it says on the tin for people who may not understand what it's all about. And that's ok really because not everyone is a Detailer or cares but I feel after a few washes it will show the scuffs again so it's not a long term fix
can I use this product to remove scratches from the plastic of the doors?
Unfortunately not recommended on plastic trim my friend
Hi , does it have fillers
Yes, if you polish by hand the bigger scratches reappear after a few weeks.
It is to be expected, if it a woman’s car ,
Thats the old version and been out for years and its one of their poorest products and they also even did a newer version called scratch x 2.0
I featured this one because it's the best selling version on Amazon right now so it's appealing to masses who may look to buy this version
😂😂 Claire’s Bolding? As well 😮😂
Thanks for that Jay lol. Thought it would be better to keep it in 🤣
@@epicautomotivedetailing 😂😂🙈
Na didn’t work
Driving too close to a hedgerow could have caused the scratches on the rear pillar.
what about the Marshall and them peddles?! Break out the guitar M8!!!
My son's guitar 🎸
First!!!!!!🎉
Thanks mate
