  • Today we will come back to basics and explain why direct attack is so important. Of course we will show several tips how to deal with that action too.
    Have a good watching and practise!

    You say "Defense: distance." It reminds me, my boxing coach's 1st lesson was that distance is your defense. You can block, dodge/slip, parry, but after that you can be hit, but with distance you are always safe. Distance and timing became my best weapons. This was 25 years ago, years later on CZcams I saw a boxing analysen video where the creator said "distance and timing, or actually position and rhythm are key to win in any combat sports". I now realize how good my coach was.
    Nice video! Appreciate it 👍

    At 3:38 you demonstrated and explained a technique which up until now, I mistakenly assumed was merely an exercise which my aikido instructor has our class occasionally practice. I was pleasantly surprised that instead of this technique being only an exercise, you demonstrated that it IS a practical, deliberate self-defense technique. There you are, showing it during an exchange, and the technique works as planned.
    Likewise, you caught my attention in your section regarding grappling. In aikido, very similar principles are taught and practiced. I didn't realize that any styles of European swordfighting had developed them too. (This feels like discovering the same language carved onto cave walls on different continents. LOL) Thank you very much for posting this video.

    • @penttikoivuniemi2146
      @penttikoivuniemi2146 Před 3 lety

      I'm pretty sure what the text says is to not only defend, i.e you should take the initiative and respond with a strike of your own rather than try to catch everything the opponent might want to throw at you. The whole "controversy" is absolute bullshit, just like most of the HEMA discourse floating around on the internet.
